People who let their dogs foul on the pavement should be banned from Pet ownership.

Another day of having to scrub dog shit off my kids shoes and my pram wheels. I am so angry with dog owners who leave dog shit everywhere. The pavements and parks near are a disgusting obstacle course, that my kids are bad at navigating.
The current penalty is £50. I don’t know if it is ever enforced.

AIBU that all dogs should be licenced to their owner with their DNA sample on record. Dog Wardens should trace poo samples to the owners. Owners get a 5k fine and are banned from dog owning.

When my kids were little, I drove to avoid taking them out in prams solely because of dog shit. I’m a dog owner and happy to pick up my own dog’s shit but not happy to scrub random dog shit from wheels/shoes. I binned my ds’s shoes when he was about 3 and stepped in some.

Councils don’t do anything of value. I’d pay more council tax for dog wardens, dog DNA database. Soon though extra council tax wouldn’t be necessary. It’d be a £1000 fine for your dog’s turd being found not picked up. Don’t pay it - go to jail. Our liberal society is disintegrating. People don’t give a shit about any rules.

Porcupineintherough · 03/01/2021 14:45

I think a £50 fine would work if there was a reasonable likelihood of it being enforced but - whilst there's no enforcement- nothing will work.

Mydogisagentleman · 03/01/2021 14:46

I have a dog.
I collect his solid as.
I would welcome a proper dog shit warden who tracks down the dirty fuckers who leave it for other people to stand in.
I would like to see an enforced licensing of dogs that costs £20 a year that pays for The unfortunate person who has to find the offending dogs and owners

Strugglingtodomybest · 03/01/2021 14:46

I agree, I should be allowed to shit on the offending do owner's shoes.

😂

Wolfiefan · 03/01/2021 14:47

I think YABU because I would worry about what happened to confiscated dogs.
BUT it’s grim. I went to a park with my dogs this morning. It’s where kids learn to cycle, play football, skate, scoot and toddlers stagger about too! I picked up three separate piles from some arseholes who CBA. How dare they?
Bigger fine? MUCH?? Community service picking up dog poo for a few months??

DdraigGoch · 03/01/2021 14:47

That should be "dog owner's", not "do owner's".

Doh!

Strugglingtodomybest · 03/01/2021 14:49

I live in a small village and know a lot of the dogs by sight, so I'm forever trying to deduce which dog left which shit. All I know for sure was it wasn't mine (but as a Staffy owner I know we're probably getting blamed anyway).

I love this idea. They have to pick up 1,000 dog shits for their community service to end.

@nitsandwormsdodger

I'm genuinely a liberal But think hanging is too soft when I'm scubbing shite off pram wheels -AGAIN!!!!
This. It is the only justification for capital punishment in a civilised society.
theverygrumpysanta · 03/01/2021 15:00

I agree.

But I also see no difference between dog owners letting their dogs do it on the pavement and cat owners who let their cats do it in other peoples gardens. Both are repulsive.

Several times recently I’ve seen people throwing cat excrement back over the fence of the main culprit in our cul-de-sac.

Owning a pet is a responsibility. Picking up its crap comes with the responsibility. That being said most councils have more pressing problems that enforcing this.

RonMexico · 03/01/2021 15:06

I saw a woman pull up outside my house, get her kids and dogs out to walk by the field near me. One of the dogs shit on my neighbours lawn, she saw it happen and walked away quickly. Once she was out of sight, I went out, put her dogs shit in a nappy bag and tied it very securely to her wing mirror, with a note for her to take her shit home with her.

murbblurb · 03/01/2021 15:06

I suggest that no dog can be owned without a licence fee of £3000 a year, to be payable to the local council. PLUS fines for anyone who doesn't pickup and culprits sent on pickup patrol. Without gloves.

only exception; assistance dogs.

you buy a dog, you commit to a decade or more of picking up warm faeces. Yes, disgusting - dog ownership is not compulsory.

missmouse101 · 03/01/2021 15:06

Its utterly gross. But I'm worried about this 'scrubbing '. It conjures up a horrible picture of shite flicking around off the brush bristles. I think wiping and washing in hot soapy water is surely better (or am I taking it too literally? )

NastyBlouse · 03/01/2021 15:08

@DdraigGoch

That should be "dog owner's", not "do owner's".

Doh!

Technically correct, though. ‘If you own the dog, you own the log’. Grin

It seems to have escalated around here, no idea why. Someone on our neighbourhood forum a few months ago did attempt to argue that picking up after a dog was an EU law, and that now we’d Brexited owners weren’t obliged to do it any more. She was set right on several fronts. (For clarity — it’s not an EU law, and people still have to pick up after their dogs.)

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 03/01/2021 15:16

YANBU OP. I can remember my 18 mo toddler walking through dog poo concealed by leaves as we left our house once. I was almost 9m pregnant and I actually cried as I was so exhausted and he was so disappointed at having to go back home to clean dog poo off shoes.

I have a dog now and the mantra is 'poo bags and treats' before we leave the house. There is no excuse. We have trained our dog to go at home and so it is very rare that she goes away from home and never on the pavement as she was trained on grass. This makes life so much easier as we have a dog toilet and dispose of almost all waste at home.

Maybe lazy dog owners could be fined AND made to do community service dog poo patrols.

Thegifthorse · 03/01/2021 15:18

I recently wrote to our local council about this, as it has got way worse lately.

They said they'd considered many options, including the sensible ones I'd put to them, but they'd decided that glow in the dark posters were the best approach... because we all know shitty dog owners are scared of glow in the dark paint. And it was definitely the fact they couldn't see the posters that meant they were leaving shit lying around...

They said I could email them if I saw poo anywhere, and they'd send someone out to clean it up. Starting tomorrow I'm carrying a damn notebook around with me, noting EVERY location of the poos, and will email them a separate email for EVERY. SINGLE. POO.

That's their solution, then so be it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/01/2021 15:20

I think that a £50 fine is insufficient and if caught the owner should be responsible for cleaning all dog poo in a 300 yard radius of their home for a time period of three months. If any dog poo is found within 'their' area within the three months the time period starts again.💩

I would have a similar 'penalty' for people who spray graffiti on buildings (not remove poo, of course, but graffiti).
And yes that would include Banksy.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 03/01/2021 15:23

I am sick to death of seeing this where we live. It’s absolutely vile.

A young couple walked past me and DH the other day and their dogs were behind them - DH said “excuse me, I think your dog’s going to the loo” and they just carried on. I shouted after them “are you not going to clean it up then?” and the woman mumbled at me to fuck off Hmm

We also saw a woman stopped whilst her dog was doing a shit. She did a fabulous acting job of making it look like she was trying to get a poo bag out of her pocket, then quickly scurried away once we’d walked past and left the shit there.

We all have to live in these areas. We all use these footpaths. I can only hope that the people who leave their dogs’ shit everywhere will be the ones to step in/slip in it in future.

Disgusting, and there are so many people who seem to think this is acceptable. We see it all the time.

biddybird · 03/01/2021 15:25

I didn't know DNA testing of dogshit was even possible, but apparently it is done elsewhere.

Our council website has an online form which I completed, stating exact location of the big pile of shite outside my house. They never came out to clean it.

ShirleyPhallus · 03/01/2021 15:26

I’d rather they would do this to cats tbh. At least with dogs you can see the owners / pretty much see the dog shit.

Apparently it’s socially acceptable to let your cats roam around and shit in other people’s gardens and on their property and is just accepted as ok. It’s disgusting.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/01/2021 15:28

@Hippopotas

Round here we also get the people who clear up and then hang the bag on the nearest shrub or tree.
Yes what on earth is that about
Glenthebattleostrich · 03/01/2021 15:28

I'm a dog owner and am also disgusted at how many people think it's acceptable to leave their dogs poo everywhere. I regularly do a sweep of the route I walk with my dog and pick up other people's dog mess. It's not unusual to get through a full roll of dog poo bags when i do this.

Personally, I'd feed the poo to the arseholes who leave it.

polkadotpjs · 03/01/2021 15:29

I have a dog and I think it's absolutely vile the amount of poop left. Both my sons got shit on their BRAND NEW trainers first time of wearing on a street near us which is always full of it. It incenses me. I can't think anyone like getting poo on their shoes ever so pick it up!!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/01/2021 15:30

I am a dog owner and I totally agree with you OP

It is so lazy and selfish.
