DM lives alone and has bubbled with my household. She came over yesterday for a cup of tea, all completely normal. She text me today to say she’s been for a COVID test as she’s had a sore throat for 3 days. I am absolutely fuming with her for putting my family at risk and for being so sneaky and not even mentioning it yesterday. How do I get past her behaviour ☹️

YANBU

Although I could imagine not registering low level sore throat for a day or so.

I’m suprised at the arsey comments although I see a few are from posters I recognize - the ones who seem to struggle to post without coming across as nasty and snide. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with an OP but any half decent person should be capable of disagreeing in a polite and not a nasty way.

Weird replies here. Covid aside isn't it just basic courtesy to tell someone if you have symptoms of an illness (flu, whatever) before coming to visit them so they can tell you if they are still happy to go ahead?

GintyMcGinty · 03/01/2021 16:09

Sore throat is not a symptom

Are you high risk?

If yes you shouldn't have bubbled. If not calm down.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/01/2021 16:10

She should have stayed home if unwell, I’d not want to pass on a sire throat and she certainly shouldn’t have come over without giving you the facts so you could decide.

Stinkywizzleteets · 03/01/2021 16:11

Loving that everyone’s saying a sore throat is not a symptom yet it was one of my main symptoms when I had covid.

EarlGreywithLemon · 03/01/2021 16:17

They’ve sped up vaccinations precisely to make sure as few of us get it as possible!

knittingaddict · 03/01/2021 16:18

Yes it is:

Watch for symptoms
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19.

How can people be so ignorant after nearly a year of this?

The government lists the 3 symptoms because they didn't have the infrastructure to test everyone with any of the symptoms at the beginning. That should have changed by now, but it hasn't.

knittingaddict · 03/01/2021 16:20

Sorry that was to GintyMcGinty.

Ilovenewyear · 03/01/2021 16:20

I would be more annoyed that as a household we had to isolate until she got her test results when she doesn’t have one of the three symptoms that allows her to request a test.

Ilovenewyear · 03/01/2021 16:22

Current guidance for requesting a test

You can only get a free NHS test if at least one of the following applies:

you have a high temperature
you have a new, continuous cough
you’ve lost your sense of smell or taste or it’s changed
you’ve been asked to get a test by a local council
you’re taking part in a government pilot project
you’ve been asked to get a test to confirm a positive result
You can also get a test for someone you live with if they have symptoms.

Confusedandshaken · 03/01/2021 16:22

We are in a bubble with my adult daughter who lives a couple of miles away. If any of us were symptomatic I would not visit her and would warn her to stay away from us and I am sure she would do the same if she had any reason to suspect she had CoVid.

Your mum was foolish or selfish or both.

mrjuno · 03/01/2021 16:24

Report her to to the Covid police, OP, and then go NC.

Either that, or let it go.

I couldn't give a stuff if someone came to my house with a sore throat.

Wheresmykimchi · 03/01/2021 16:24

Are you aware that if she has to isolate with COVID you technically do too as you are one household?

Yes I know. It's a flawed system when covid can present in ways other than the main 3. The point is that it may be covid even if you can't get a test and contact with others should be limited. Some common sense is called for above and beyond what the government has in place.

Same here.
PhatPhanny · 03/01/2021 16:26

Well if I listened to everyone on here I'd be spreading Covid about all over the place, my only symptoms to begin with were sore throat and a fevery feeling, yet tested positive after my household having symptoms.

Id be pissed of if my DM done this

PlugUgly1980 · 03/01/2021 16:27

If she's part of a research study like the Zoe app then they can ask you to have a test without you having the main symptoms. I've had sore throat and runny nose so recorded details on the app and the following day they emailed to ask me to voluntarily book a test via the NHS site as it helps them build up a picture of other symptoms. You still answer the questions accurately, ie. no to main symptoms, but yes to research etc and book the test as norma.

Personally I would not go near my children, who both have very young children if I had the slightest symptom, whether or not a sore throat is a sign of covid or not.

I think your mum should have told you before she came round and let you make the decision about whether she should come.

mioz · 03/01/2021 16:32

After starting this thread I completely understand how the virus is spreading so quickly - some people are baffling!

Probably because she is from a time where knee jerk reactions weren't the norm.

Wheresmykimchi · 03/01/2021 16:32

@mioz you can be annoyed but I feel like everyone has completely taken leave of compassion and empathy.

Do you think it's likely that she thought ooh I've got a sore throat heh il pop round and give it to DD?

Maryann1975 · 03/01/2021 16:41

I wish people would stop saying that no one can get a test because you have a sore throat. That might be the case in your county, but where I live (which is a county in England) we have been able to test with a sore throat, headache, sneezing, cold symptoms, fatigue, tummy ache and a few others I can’t even remember for a couple of months now. Our rates are one of the few areas that have come down, so testing more people and for a variety of symptoms has obviously worked.

As there seems to be no shortage of tests and results are (as far as I know) coming back reasonably quickly, I see no problem in people being tested for the lesser symptoms. In the beginning, with a mass shortage of tests it was obviously more of an issue, but at the moment, i see no problem in getting a test for a lesser symptoms.
