@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee and @ChestnutStuffing no, they are to educate and nature our children, unfortunately this seems to be lost in a covid world. The purpose of schooling is education. Teachers are not child-minders. Yes, the economy needs re-starting. Yes, of course, children and young people need to get back to school. But conflating schooling with childcare, in a vitriolic discourse against teachers, sets a dangerous precedent that diminishes the extraordinary work that teachers do.

Not everyone with odious behaviour is a narcissist. MN is full of armchair psychologists. They’ve Seen some CSI and they’re good to go. If the prevalence of narcissism was as reported on mn we’d be in the middle of a MH crisis

Your ex boyfriend being unsavoury doesnt equal narcissism. Nor does saying it make it so

EwwwCoffee · 03/01/2021 03:15

Weight gain is a choice and obesity is draining NHS resources that should be used on people who are ill through bad luck.

Animals are infinitely better than humans.

Almost all men are basically selfish misogynist arseholes.

People who watch soaps and/or read tabloids are a bit thick.

If you don’t shower every morning, you aren’t clean. People can tell.

All the current trans stuff is merely a trend and is largely BS we’ll look back on with incredulity eventually.

And coffee is indescribably vile and gives you terrible breath.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 03/01/2021 03:16

I’m not conflating anything I am correctly observing schools have a socioeconomic function in conjunction with the education. The childcare eg breakfast and after school is on site and it is to specifically support those who need that provision eg working parents. The childcare is not provided by the teachers, but it’s an integral part of the school. The reality of it is,many parents do rely upon school for childcare. The school acknowledged the childcare aspect this by specifically making KW pupils a priority group, who can attend school. Education doesn’t happen in isolation, it’s enmeshed in socioeconomics inc parental need for childcare that fits around school

Teachers work very hard, are underpaid and disrespected. All the time, but especially now. They are at risk of Covid beyond reasonable expectations. Medical and frontline workers are also currently well beyond reasonable risk, obviously! But education and medical care are different fields. I don’t know what the solution is, but I feel this whole thing is unfair on teachers to a huge extent.
I think financial management and household budgeting and management should be taught in schools.
I don’t think grandparents should be expected to provide free childcare and then criticised for how they provide this.
I think grandparents who help are generally under appreciated and if you have that kind of help and support you are very fortunate and should realise this.

Chalfontstgiles · 03/01/2021 03:47

That if lateral flow / pcr testing is In place and local R numbers are stable, schools in those areas should 100% return as planned next week!

That is a great ideal of education. I work in education, I share that ideal.

But that is not the way schooling works in our society. The economy has been built on free childcare to a large extent. It's a major reason for governments in all countries to fund both schools and pre-school programs.

Frankly, if this wasn't part of the reasoning for school, it could be organised entirely differently and to better effect, for example not starting until later and half days in early years.

Big, ugly, second hand mugs rule

Opinions you have that aren't popular on mumsnet
coronafiona · 03/01/2021 04:07

You should at always LTB. Compromise has to be on both sides

coronafiona · 03/01/2021 04:07

That should read you shouldn't always LTB!

YukoandHiro · 03/01/2021 04:19

It's not always financially and emotionally dangerous to work part time (or not at all) when you have young DC

YukoandHiro · 03/01/2021 04:23

That fed is not best. Breast is best. Formula is fine - but it is second best.

squeekums · 03/01/2021 04:25

Menstrual cups are vile, as are period pants.
Drugs should be legal
Nothing wrong with maccas
I don't care if how I live is environmentally friendly or not.
Smoking is relaxing

Bilboard · 03/01/2021 04:42

I don't like some of my friends children]Blush

TheNinny · 03/01/2021 04:57

I only want (and have) 1 kid.

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 05:00

I answer my door, even when I'm not expecting anyone.

I happily take on neighbours parcels, they happily take in mine.

CrotchBurn · 03/01/2021 05:56

The vast majority of teachers arent in the job because they're passionate about or have flair for teaching, but because they couldn't think how else to use their degree.

PhilCornwall1 · 03/01/2021 06:17

DH cycles and plays video games and is neither a selfish tosser nor a manchild.

Also proves he can multitask!! 🤔

wherewildthingsare · 03/01/2021 06:21

I don't care if my dc get 5 a day of fruit/veg or not. Also a bag of chips or a cheese pizza is a perfectly acceptable dinner.

wherewildthingsare · 03/01/2021 06:24

Also I don't give a 💩 about organic food
SpeckledyHen · 03/01/2021 06:24

You don’t have to RTFT

wherewildthingsare · 03/01/2021 06:31

I don't care for attachment parenting. I'm not carrying my baby 24/7. I'm certainly not sharing a bed with said baby.
I don't care for organic clothes, wooden toys that cost a fortune. I am not wasting £200 on a second hand tiny wooden ladder for baby to climb on probably completely ignore and I am not making organic purees from scratch or baby led weaning

I am not buying my dc second hand clothes . I love disposable nappies and wipes( not cleaning up shit all day)

Also I don't care for breast feeding

wherewildthingsare · 03/01/2021 06:42

One more-
Every adult usually male out there is not a predator . Dc should be allowed to ask a stranger a question no wonder kids struggle with socialising
Parents shouldn't teach dc to fear every stranger they will ever encounter.

HankMarvinjg · 03/01/2021 06:44

I can't stand over the top happy couples, its vile & fake.
