Carole Middleton the ultimate mum raising a future queen?

I'm currently reading Harry & Meghan's book Finding Freedom... Meghan's parents particularly Doria have been applauded for putting such an emphasis on Meghan's education, ensuring she got into an expensive Catholic school & ensuring she worked very hard at school...
Surely the Middleton's should get the same praise but they were ridiculed & accused of being upwardly mobile... Kate & Pippa both attended excellent universities so they obviously worked very hard also..
The other parents in the girkd private school weren't too complimentary about Carole either with snipes about the girls uniforms, sports equipment etc too perfect. I reckon the other parents were jealous.
In my opinion Carole has done an amazing job raising out future queen & should be given more credit...

What a load of guff, she had no idea her daughter would be a future queen, still might not be, not guarantees

sst1234 · 02/01/2021 15:33

To be honest we don’t need women to raise future queens or social climbers who strive to marry into royalty because they are mediocre actresses. We need women to raise independent and resilient girls who set the agenda. I have more respect for women and girls who are quietly changing the world, one small step at a time rather than these celeb royals who wheel out their lectures about being kind or not whatever the new hashtag is.

Jangle33 · 02/01/2021 15:37

Not sure that seeing your kids to boarding school is something to be applauded. No issue with it but hardly parent of the year!

Immrswhistledown · 02/01/2021 15:44

@JammyGem

DH used to know the Middletons (before Kate actually met William) and had always said that the mother was vile. Her whole life centered around marrying off her children, like a modern Mrs Bennett. Although apparently her husband wasn't much nicer!
I worked with a doctor who had been at St Andrews at the same time as Kate. She said she was in no way one of the nice girls and that she had engineered her time there so coincide with William being there.
thepeopleversuswork · 02/01/2021 15:51

I agree that the British press were particularly snippy about Carole Middleton: I think it was purely resentment of people who'd done well through hard work but weren't from an upper class background.

I'm not sure I'd agree that raising a future Queen is necessarily the lodestone for successful motherhood though. No disrespect to the Middletons but its not necessarily the pinnacle of achievement: I can think of far better things for a girl to aspire to. But again, that's nothing to do with Carole and her husband. As far as one can tell they were loving and good parents so fair play.

Raaaaaaarr · 02/01/2021 16:23

@RizzleDrizzle I think they had been together quite a while. Maybe a couple of years by that point...

MaskingForIt · 02/01/2021 16:27

@ohforasnowyday
So many stories of her making herself compliant and being on-call whenever he wanted her. And of course spending many years not working or pursuing any life for herself in order to sit around and be free whenever he snapped his fingers.

That’s pretty much the story of Mumsnet though. So many women’s lives revolve around pleasing their man and they end up in awful situations, then can’t work out how they got there.

RizzleDrizzle · 02/01/2021 16:53

I thought they hadn’t because that was “given” reason why vogue didn’t go that she was in Dublin, I know she goes to Dublin quite regularly but I seem to remember she was even seen with Brian’s girls that weekend.

It was back in the days that her and Brian were doing the we’re still besties we still hang out with the girls and share custody of winston

I think that Carole did an amazing job as she started as an air stewertess, married Michael, set up a hugely successful business & completely changed her own fortunes. I think it's amazing & she must be an incredible force to be reckoned with. Also to have raised her two daughter's & son to mingle with the royals & the upper echelons of society in such a confident manner is admirable.

Well said. She’s a very successful woman who’s done extremely well for herself and her kids. What’s not to admire?

RizzleDrizzle · 02/01/2021 17:02

Yes. @Raaaaaaarr I’m right they’d only been dating literally weeks 8 weeks maxim

Vogue and spencer started dating in march 2017 and pippa and James got married in may 2017 that’s really not years! That’s barely 2 months!

So really would you invite some one your brother had only started dating less than 2 months before?!?!

Especially when the invites would have gone out like 6 months before if not even longer given the involvement of the fourth in line to the throne?!?

I don’t doubt Carole is an snob but nah vogue wasn’t invited because she’d only been dating spencer weeks

And she had a work commitment in Dublin which again would have been arranged months and months in advanced

RizzleDrizzle · 02/01/2021 17:05

Admire her as much as you like

But I’ll ask again how does any of this make her the ultimate mother as the title of this thread

All she’s done is raise three children, and she’s not exactly raised the girls to be strong independent women she’s raised them to find men that can keep them.

That’s not even good or progressive it’s actually fairly old fashioned

NoCureForLove · 02/01/2021 17:09

You sound deranged op.

Raaaaaaarr · 02/01/2021 17:13

@RizzleDrizzle opps seems I remembered incorrectly then.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/01/2021 17:22

I haven't a clue how the Middletons raised their kids - though they appear to have done a pretty decent job - but what beats me is how it must feel to see your daughter all over the press, knowing she'll be the future queen

It's one thing to hope they'll do okay and surely quite another to see one of them end up like that (whether or not it's a good thing)

Dongdingdong · 02/01/2021 17:34

Sabotaging a fashion show and flashing her tits to get his attention (Kate was given a long sheer skirt and a sweater to wear, but at the last second as she was waiting to step onto the catwalk she threw off the sweater and hoiked the skirt up over her boobs to turn it into a see-through minidress).

There are so many stories of her being mean and bullying towards other women in William's life, and ensuring she was the only girl around him.

@ohforasnowyday what a load of made up tosh.

Dongdingdong · 02/01/2021 17:36

I worked with a doctor who had been at St Andrews at the same time as Kate. She said she was in no way one of the nice girls and that she had engineered her time there so coincide with William being there.

@Immrswhistledown how could your doctor friend possibly have known the last part?

derxa · 02/01/2021 17:39

Rarely heard about Fergie or Sophies parents. Even Diana's family weren't really mentioned while she was alive You must be joking.

Butchyrestingface · 02/01/2021 17:44

I am not convinced that the senior Middletons were wholly successful in passing on their own undeniable work ethic to their offspring.

RizzleDrizzle · 02/01/2021 17:44

Even Diana's family weren't really mentioned while she was alive

Diana who’s family? Diana Jones from the council estate in Northampton yeah no I never heard anything about her family

Diana spencer from althorpe I’m pretty sure we all heard quite a lot about her family no?!?!

Allispretty · 02/01/2021 17:48

Erm you're reading a book about them of course it's going to praise her family! I also think the British press do a good enough job praising Kate and William and berating Harry and Megan!

LadyfromtheBelleEpoque · 02/01/2021 17:56

I don’t understand the British psyche anymore. Council estate >Selfemployed business woman> good

Single mum> paid for Catholic private school>opportunist

Since when did we judge success by such bitterness?

The overwhelming factors in success have shown to be about attitude, to failure and others -Marcus Rashford is a good example of that. There have always been successful w/c people in the UK - why are we allowing our ideas be dictated by those who are entrenched in a singular view of how society works? Some Working class people have always valued education - but were aware of the education process that disadvantaged them in comparison to wealthier communities.

Catholic schools were looked down on, I thought in British society but have generally always offered a good foundation for pupils from a wide class background.

The issues are more complex than this and this sniping at families who have moved into the RF just highlights how many people need to believe that social mobility isn’t possible when we maintain systems in society to enable it, often at great expense.

Nikhedonia · 02/01/2021 18:20

Single mum> paid for Catholic private school>opportunist

I thought it had been widely reported that the Catholic private school was funded by the single father, rather than mother?

longwayoff · 02/01/2021 18:27

What a load of old bull. Honestly, it makes me despair. Who cares? Why?

buttery81 · 02/01/2021 18:54

But I’ll ask again how does any of this make her the ultimate mother as the title of this thread

I think any woman who has raised three (seemingly lovely) children whilst building up their own immensely successful business from scratch is to be admired personally. That for me is the ultimate mother!

Thanks in part to her hard work and raising them so well, Carole’s kids all enjoy a fabulous quality of life, particularly Kate - who will go down in history. She and the Middleton name will be famous for hundreds of years to come - quite incredible really!

buttery81 · 02/01/2021 18:57

I bet Carole’s house is immaculate and I love the story about the children all being immaculately turned out at school, too. I would love to be like that but just don’t have the willpower!
