Outside walks and people

CharlotteRose90 · 01/01/2021 15:54

No hate please but I’m hoping I’m not the only one.

So me and my mum have been going for walks with the dog and it’s making me so angry what people are doing. Walking so close to us and not keeping distance. We’re both in the vulnerable category and I’ve said so many times to people to move away.

I completely get you don’t have to wear a mask but don’t walk next to or behind people you don’t know. The park we choose today had a massive path and people still did it. I ended up shouting at this woman for standing next to my mum and coughing.

Rant over. I’m hoping I’m not crazy

The one hour of exercise came from a comment made by Gove but it was just what he thought was suitable, it was never any law, guidance or anything else

TunnellingDeeper · 03/01/2021 15:06

@CharlotteRose90 if you speak to or shout at people you are much more likely to pass on the virus than if you keep your mouth shut. If they're getting too close, step aside and let them pass. Most people will not be doing it deliberately and it's not unreasonable for people to have a lapse in concentration.

Justa47 · 03/01/2021 15:11

@badpuma

Today’s figures as 54,000 plus and 459 deaths on a Sunday.

Lock down needed now like March across all UK. Weak government late and delaying and always behind the curve.

People are dying. Due to intersection.
One person into supermarket.
Limit the numbers in there
One hour out a day.
Etc etc etc

badpuma · 03/01/2021 15:17

Probably yes lockdown is needed, just like March 2020 which incidentally (as I may have mentioned and provided details of the legislation for) did not include a one hour limit on exercise.

It wasn't and won't be a one hour exercise regime, stop scaremongering and making up your own rules!

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 03/01/2021 15:34

Totally in the same boat OP. I live alone, walk alone, yet faced with sometimes 6 wide on a path. I end up walking through quagmires to avoid contact with them. Hard to get somewhere with fewer people unless I used public transport. Just a bit of consideration is all that is required.

Justa47 · 03/01/2021 16:39

@Bookworming

Well you managed 12 hours well done.
I seriously think you can’t count.
Did you see the numbers today?
Do you understand atall respiratory spread viruses?
Do you have any grasp of science?
Do you care people are dying not only of Covid but due to the pressure on the NHS?

I think the answer is no.
And you repeatedly comment on my posts about SD so I know you feel guilty for something you have done.

You will probably say nothing but it might ease your anxiety to get it off you chest?

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 16:46

Get a grip! You tagged me at 05.19 about a thread during Christmas! You've cried I'm a victim every since. Told me I need help, I'm an emotional abuser, I'm a rule breaker apologist and now ,,,,, you've tagged me again!

I did not follow you around the posts, saying "I remember you from this post", stop passing the blame to mr, for what you've done!

STOP TAGGING ME, WHEN YOU DO I WILL TAH YOU AGAIN!

in the meantime you're wrong, the hour rule never existed?

I posted on this thread before you! You then tagged me!!!!!!!!

@Justa47 I now understand why you're on your own! Who the hell could bare to be with you!

Sup1979 · 03/01/2021 16:51

Bloody hell you two... you’re much worse than my two young children squabbling like this!!Grin

Justa47 · 03/01/2021 16:53

@Bookworming

You keep quoting from my posts.
Get help as you have a fixation on me.
Please stop quoting me if you don’t like a reply.

caspersmagicaljourney · 03/01/2021 16:56

@elenacampana

Shouting at people in the park is considered normal by some now, is it? I’d have been more likely to ask the lone woman if she was alright than humiliate her in public.
Same here elenacampana. Shouting is unnecessary abuse and tantamount to bullying,

You started it this morning at 05.19 it's their for everyone to see! How bloody weird are you!

Honestly, go look you (or your alter ego) started harassing me about another post at 05.19am!

You need a massive amount of help, can't believe when it's in plain sight you're denying it?

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 16:57

Xenia · 03/01/2021 16:58

My wish is that walkers would read the signs on this estate - private road residents only and then if they are not a resident do not go on that road. Instead they choose to put two fingers up to the law.

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 16:59

Totally agree! You can't decide why someone stopped and coughed. Both parties stopped, surely that's what happened?

Solina · 03/01/2021 17:02

We live 2min walk away from a lovely park, perfect for long walks. We choose to not go for walks there at the moment because of this very problem, it is absolutely packed there. We walk on the normal residential roads instead and it is quiet, hardly see anyone at all. You have a choice but choose to go where it is busy. If it upsets you, choose a less scenic walk, I promise you it will be better for your MH.

saraclara · 03/01/2021 17:09

Private roads are rarely legally only for residents only to walk along. The vast majority are also Public Rights of Way. So if the signs are not put up by the local authority, but by the residents, they're almost certainly not enforceable.

Obviously I don't know about yours, but I do know that in my local area, residents were being verbally aggressive and threatening to people who have the perfect right to walk along 'their' road.

SpnBaby1967 · 03/01/2021 17:09

OP, you were rude. You dont shout at strangers!

Satlie2019 · 03/01/2021 17:39

OP, I completely agree with you, people are really inconsiderate. However, if you and your mother both wear masks and avoid crowded places + don't engage people in conversation surely the risk will be minimal + you will get benefit from outside exercise? I live in a village though, it may be far worse in urban environments. Even where we live people do come too close though, I just try to keep my distance and not get too upset by it. I think the risk really is minimal especially if you have a mask on (as you are only passing them for a few seconds, not speaking, and outside). My main thing is to try not to engage anyone in conversation unless we are really far apart, I try to nod politely and hope they will do the same rather than speak. I try not to worry to much about it, as stressing about it will reduce the benefits of walking outside. My husband always jumps into the road to avoid people as he knows how careful I am about social distancing, but I worry he will get run over and have asked him to stop, it is a tricky one.

saraclara · 03/01/2021 17:55

It's weird reading this thread about people paranoid about others passing them too close on a path outdoors in the park. When tomorrow, teachers, TAs and other staff in schools are expected to go back to being in a small room with 30 unmasked people all day.

Not to mention the supermarket and NHS workers.

There seems to be a real paranoia going on among those at the least risk of coming into contact with the virus.

💯 true!

Not to mention postal workers, fire officers, people that work in offices and public facing, such as benefit assistants, delivery drivers for the 10000 more parcels being delivered.

But no, I had a five second passing of someone only 1.8m away!

Thejoyfulstar · 03/01/2021 18:36

You shouted at a stranger in the street because you are in the at risk category and yet you know utterly nothing about the vulnerabilities, mental or physical, of the lady you shouted at. Honestly, we have no idea what is going on in other people's lives and how being shouted at by a stranger for pretty much repairing in a public place could affect them.

Outdoor is very low risk, public space belongs to everyone, move if you feel over crowded or go out at a quieter time of the day.

JMKid · 03/01/2021 19:04

Someone walking past you will not pass on covid. Need to be in close contact with someone for at least 15mins!!!
If vulnerable then go somewhere else or when its not busy.

Eckhart · 03/01/2021 19:54

How come we're advised to distance further from runners than walkers, then? Do most people keep up with the runners and walkers they pass for 15 minutes or more?

I fear I may be doing life wrong...

HikeForward · 03/01/2021 21:19

OP if you choose to go out for walks in public land you run the risk of someone needing to get past you in a hurry. Are you aware of your surroundings, do look around frequently to check you’re not blocking a path?

Should people walk at your pace or step in the mud/road to ensure they leave 2m overtaking?

Maybe they’re rushing to get to a medical appointment. Maybe they’re on their way for work (they could even be one of the HCPs ‘keeping you safe’). Maybe they’re chasing their runaway kid in the park.
