Outside walks and people

No hate please but I’m hoping I’m not the only one.

So me and my mum have been going for walks with the dog and it’s making me so angry what people are doing. Walking so close to us and not keeping distance. We’re both in the vulnerable category and I’ve said so many times to people to move away.

I completely get you don’t have to wear a mask but don’t walk next to or behind people you don’t know. The park we choose today had a massive path and people still did it. I ended up shouting at this woman for standing next to my mum and coughing.

Rant over. I’m hoping I’m not crazy

@Sup1979

* There's 140,000 miles of footpaths in England and Wales, I don't believe you can't find one that's not busy.* *If you know any in the Manchester area feel free to tell me smile*

Op. YOU are the one shielding
So YOU do your research

And a Biscuit for you.

How odious you are.

HikeForward · 03/01/2021 13:01

Are you walking single file or blocking the path? If the latter you’re being very U.

I hate trying to walk to work (to get to my frontline NHS job) and constantly dodge around or overtake people walking along. Yes sometimes I have to squeeze past because the alternatives are step in the road or step in the hedge!

You need to take responsibility for social distancing eg don’t go to parks at crowded times, don’t obstruct paths by walking abreast, be aware of people needing to overtake and stand aside so you don’t hold them up. Avoid commuter routes and narrow paths popular with joggers and cyclists.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 03/01/2021 13:05

'The trouble is, keeping you ‘safe’ means others, with nothing at all to fear from the virus, losing literally everything - livelihoods, relationships, homes, the entirety of their children’s futures, everything.

That’s just not reasonable, when you have the choice to just stay at home.'

@NikeDeLaSwoosh honestly, what a drama queen you are.

Looks clear that tier 5 is coming
Like first lock down
No mixing
One hours exercise
Schools shut

I wonder if people will continue to break the rules?
I wonder what the numbers need to get to so that people stop being so selfish and heartless using pathetic rationalisations to attempt to excuse themselves and their weakness.

CountessFrog · 03/01/2021 13:20

I won’t keep the ‘one hour’ exercise rule. It’s a nonsense.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 03/01/2021 13:20

@hoodathunkit @Inkpaperstars your posts put mine to shame. You're both so patient and kind.

I know I shouldn't read these threads: people are so utterly unaware of their health privilege.

Anyway, Thanks to you both, & I'm going to try to channel your attitude.

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch

I am very often aware that reading threads on here does me no good, I am just sometimes a sucker for punishment! The attitudes can be really disheartening!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2021 13:42

There was never a one hour rule for exercise.

To be honest I’d gladly favour a tier 5. I’ve sadly learnt that people are unbelievably selfish and just look out for themselves.

It’s awful that people don’t look out for each other and that those of us that are vulnerable and need extra care are being told to stay locked away and never come out.

One hour exercise was never a rule. Exercise was unlimited in the legislation, but Michael Gove 'interpreted it'.

Wingedharpy · 03/01/2021 14:03

I'm in the CEV category.

If I can't move out of other folks' way or cross the road etc, I turn my face away from the individual(s) and hold my breath as I pass.

If they are coming up behind, at speed, I stand to one side, and hold my breath as they pass.

I now have the lung capacity of a deep sea pear fisher!

Xmas Grin I do that too: I'm sure it's very good for the lungs.

Apparently, though, some people are enraged by this. Fumming.

I do this and I’m not ecv!

I just always have hated anyone breathing near me, I find it repulsive, especially when they’re panting and coughing. It’s basic manners to keep a distance l

Justa47 · 03/01/2021 14:16

@badpuma

Was just reading a Sunday Torygraph article that said it was.
I seem to remember that was try agreed amount but could be wrong, but I did just quote an article posted an hour ago on apple news.

So the telegraph or you are wrong.

MarinPrime · 03/01/2021 14:17

I wonder where the 1 hour myth of exercise came from?
Some mnetters went on about it during the first lockdown. Perhaps it's wishful thinking, no doubt some would love to sit by the window and time their neighbour's outings Grin

Do you do this if the person passing you has a mask on?

@Sup1979

* This just doesn't track my experience at all. My experience is that most people are very, very nice and very, very reasonable. Maybe it's just where I live *

Same here.

I suspect some go around actively looking to be pissed off and angry. Seems such a shit way to live.

Me too. People sometimes forget themselves, or they're deep in conversation, or they simply don't have eyes in the back of their heads.

But whenever I've said a simple and friendly "excuse me" they've been full of apologies and perfectly pleasant.

It seems that some people would rather not proffer a friendly "excuse me" because it might work, and then they can't get 'fuming' about something.

saraclara · 03/01/2021 14:25

those of us that are vulnerable and need extra care are being told to stay locked away and never come out.

Exactly where in this thread has anyone said that?

But if I was very vulnerable, I'd do what my vulnerable neighbours do, and go for walks when most people are at home, and to quieter places than our nearest park. I'd do that because I'd want my walk to be therapeutic rather than stressful.

That's not the legislation. The law did not impose a time limit. Many commentators decided that it should have done, but it didn't.

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England)
Regulations 2020 said:

'Restrictions on movement
6.—(1) During the emergency period, no person may leave the place where they are living
without reasonable excuse.
(2) For the purposes of paragraph (1), a reasonable excuse includes the need—
(a) to obtain basic necessities, including food and medical supplies for those in the same household (including any pets or animals in the household) or for vulnerable persons and supplies for the essential upkeep, maintenance and functioning of the household, or the household of a vulnerable person, or to obtain money, including from any business listed in Part 3 of Schedule 2;
(b) to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;
(c) ...'

As there were no time limits in the law, they were not enforceable. It is a shame a formerly reputable national newspaper doesn't understand this.

Read the thread people have said if I’m vulnerable to stay at home.

We do go at quiet times and to quiet parks when it’s less busy I think everyone just decided to go out New Year’s Day

The risks of exposure outdoors in fresh air are very small anyway. They have to give one simple 2m rule but but passing someone momentarily outdoors (as opposed to walking and talking with them) is a minimal exposure. If people are that anxious they should maybe wear PPE outside.

I cycle, jog and walk and would just say, if you are threatened by people squeezing past you, huffing or dinging on shared paths, please walk to one side and leave space to pass.ideally the right.

amicissimma · 03/01/2021 14:52

"I wonder what the numbers need to get to so that people stop being so selfish and heartless using pathetic rationalisations to attempt to excuse themselves and their weakness."

Goodness, yes. How dare people be weaker than you? Why don't they just pull themselves together and stop needing things that you can manage without?

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 14:54

See the Covid
Marshall's don't know the rules, yet think they've got the right to spout nonsense!

So irritating!

One hour for exercise - never happened!
