Name change as i'm so ashamed

i'm overweight by a lot, and i've decided that this year i will finally get in shape.
It's been a day into the new year and i've already binged at least 2000 calories with chocolate and crisps and sweets Sad
I feel so pathetic.
Please help

SNAP @justatealot

Me too. It's the first day of the year and perhaps not a good day to start the diet. Start eating better tomorrow. Be easy on yourself.

But having been involved in the health and fitness sector for about 15 years it is NOT the most sustainable way of doing things and it can have some fairly serious health implications

Also, most of the pertinent research re fasting has been done very recently, I thought, so if you're referring to 15 year old experience, we know quite a lot more, now. A lot of dietary recommendations we still follow are being found to be based on very scant/no evidence, like '5-a-day', which is based on absolutely nothing at all. No studies. No science.

Yes this can be problematic but there is a relatively simple solution. Firstly you need to get your partner on board with the fact you wish to lose weight and thus need to avoid junk food. Once they understand this then go halves with them on a lockable file. The sort of thing you might use to keep important documents set aside. They then keep thier food locked away and you never need eat it. It sounds a bit silly but it does work, assuming they dont leave the key around obviously.

@Dawnlassie - I like this idea but DH would just say 'No I am not doing that. He is very stubborn and set in his ways. the idea of locking up treats so I can't access them would be nonsense to him. He'd just say, 'They are in the cupboard. Don't eat them.' I can just abotu encourage him to buy biscuits I hate. But if I ask him to buy flavoured crisps because I can't stand them, he always comes back with ready salted which are my weakness.

BonnieDundee · 01/01/2021 22:02

I dont think locking up food is emotionally healthy

Paul McKenna is good and takes the angst out of food

Danu2021 · 01/01/2021 22:04

@Dawnlassie 🤔 Fasting a couple of days a week is so much easier that permanently eating healthily in a restricted way. That is a diet. Eating healthily and restricting portions is a diet .
Work with the human body and relax some days and fast some days.

You need to update yourself if you are advising people how to lose weight healthily.

You really sound v ignorant writing off IF as "crap".
Especially if you work in health and fitness

Danu2021 · 01/01/2021 22:14

Fasting is not the only way to lose weight but for somebody who has good days and bad days but currently berates themself for the bad days, it is perfect. Try it OP, don't pay any attention to people who think it's a fad.

I fast monday and thursday like people did thousands of years ago.

Dee1975 · 01/01/2021 22:27

Goodness you are not pathetic! Today isn’t a great day to start. I’m also not a fan of January diets. It’s generally a depressing month. Crap weather. Crap time of year. And then add on a diet on top? Tooooo hard!
Take small steps in January and ramp it up from Feb. (Well that’s what I plan to do. I’m also overweight. Hope it works!!!)

ivykaty44 · 02/01/2021 21:04

How did you go today OP? Did you make any plans?

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/01/2021 10:03

Personally I don’t fast as a rule but I regularly don’t eat till late afternoon. I could never eat breakfast and because of work I don’t really eat till 4.30/5.30 in the evening on some days.
I have never noticed that I have lost any weight

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2021 13:39

how long have you not eaten until 4.30pm @Oliversmumsarmy ?

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/01/2021 13:46

For years.

I probably eat about 9pm the night before
I have never eaten breakfast and when at work I have rarely eaten lunch.

I really don’t get that hungry and most of the time I am driving so it is only when I get back do I start to feel really hungry. Then I eat something quick and then make my meal later on in the evening.

Gobbycop · 03/01/2021 14:09

Definitely little steps.

Work out what you need for your height and weight then cut 500 calories a day.

Go for walks. Use something like my fitness pal to log what you're eating and exercise.
Have the odd cheat day, don't feel guilty.

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2021 20:41

Oliversmumsarmy

So have you changed your eating habits recently?

Only I’m confused by your statement

I have never noticed that I have lost any weight

You havnt lost weight so perhaps you’ve changed your eating habits and put weight on?

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/01/2021 21:45

ivykaty44

Not changed the times I eat. Just saying I have been thin and I have also been over weight/obese for years as well.
I put on 6stone with my first pregnancy but lost it with little effort. Then put on 6 stone with my 2nd but didn’t lose it

I have never noticed the time of day I eat has had any effect on my weight.

Only recently have I made up my own diet.
I am now losing about 2lbs per week. Hopefully it will continue. It might take me all year to lose the weight but it is something I can stick to.

ivykaty44 · 04/01/2021 06:36

It was just you said you don’t fast, but you only eat between 4:30pm and 9pm then not eating again until 4:30pm the following day some 19 hours later

So your fasting for 19 hours each day

You say you’ve not had any weight change doing this

But we don’t know if you stopped this style if eating wether you’d out on weight - as you’ve said you’ve done this for some time, possibly you’d be heavier if you’d not been having the 19 hour gap in your eating
