Really Loud Fireworks

Going off at this time of night, when we're in tier 3. God knows what it'll sound like towards midnight. I hate fireworks at any time because I have dogs, who are terrified. The fact that I'm having to deal with a scared animal, combined with moving into the shit of 2020 passed on to 2021, makes me think at least we could have done without the explosives.

They've been going off near me since before it got dark. For the first few hours it was those bloody ones that sound like a small cannon. Now I think I have 2 sets in competition with each other - when the ones to the left go quiet, the ones to the right start up and vice versa. I'm hoping now it's gone midnight that it'll quieten down 🤞

LolaSmiles · 01/01/2021 00:10

In an ideal world I'd ban all fireworks in residential areas other than for use on premises that are suitable. Until then I accept that on key celebration nights there will be fireworks and I'd probably be tolerant if they were smaller domestic ones.

My dogs aren't allowed on the beds, but one is curled up in our guest bedroom terrified and I'm praying DC isn't woken up. The noise and force behind many of these fireworks is substantially louder than what is actually safe for modest sized residential gardens.

megletthesecond · 01/01/2021 00:11

Fucking firework wankers.

ThatWasThat · 01/01/2021 00:12

NYE does not equal fireworks. We had NYE before fireworks. obv

BettlejuicesMum · 01/01/2021 00:12

It’s been none stop with fireworks here too since about 7pm
I’m in rural Oxfordshire (tier 4), I expected them from midnight, but it’s been all evening

99victoria · 01/01/2021 00:13

My OH and i have just poured ourselves a glass of prosecco and gone outside to enjoy the firework displays around our house. We have 2 cats who we have kept in this evening so they don't get frightened

I think fireworks on NYE are lovely. I don't really understand why people have got such immense levels of anger over them tbh

Viviennemary · 01/01/2021 00:15

A lot worse than usual and louder. Moan moan moan. I hope nobody dares to wish me happy New year. Grrrrr

LolaSmiles · 01/01/2021 00:16

You don't understand why people might object to hours of banging in residential areas when many of the fireworks are substantially more powerful than is safe for the location?
Or are you pretending not to understand how anyone could hold a different view?

It boils my piss.
Children and animals are terrified and they cost £££ and look crap vs any professional display.

I literally do not get it.

Ideasplease322 · 01/01/2021 00:19

Louder this year than ever before. I just rescued my terrified cat from under the neighbours shed.

But it’s New Years - it’s been a shit year. Fireworks are to be expected.

greenlynx · 01/01/2021 00:20

It’s awful here as well, we have a sort of field near by and it feels like everyone out. I loved fireworks before but then I’ve read how bad it’s for an environment and for pets and it’s changed my view completely.

99victoria · 01/01/2021 00:21

But it's just one night - what does it matter?

I didn't say that I don't understand why people don't like them, I said i don't understand why people seem to be so incredibly angry about something which will be over in a couple of hours

Doyoumind · 01/01/2021 00:23

It's bad here. Someone has the loudest kind right over the road from me.

megletthesecond · 01/01/2021 00:25

They don't go out and litter pick the rubbish they drop either, another reason they should be banned. I'll be doing it for all the lazy fuckers this weekend.

One year I'll do it and lob it back over their garden fences.

Sobeyondthehills · 01/01/2021 00:27

Still going off here, my dog fucking hates them, so in turn I hate them.

The cats are watching them from the windowsill

HibernatingTill2030 · 01/01/2021 00:29

It sounded like a war zone in my town.
But, why not? 2020 has been shit. If they want to send it out with a shit load of explosives, that's fine by me.

youkiddingme · 01/01/2021 00:29

I would also ban them in residential areas, limit them to organised displays (when those are safe), and do something about the volume.
Children being woken
Pets
Wildlife
PTSD
The Environment
Litter
Risk of accidents

Vs

Fun

I'm sure someone could come up with a different kind of fun

HibernatingTill2030 · 01/01/2021 00:31

I am normally very firmly in the "only for organised display" camp. But I think this year, it's fine. People have, in the main, been stuck at home, and I won't begrudge them having some kind of a fun evening with their household.

ilovesooty · 01/01/2021 00:32

@GoldenLabbie

Why are they going off so early though ? Surely they should be left till midnight?
They went off even more loudly at 11 here, presumably to celebrate Brexit. Sad
hansgrueber · 01/01/2021 00:32

@Mangofandangoo

I think I must have the only cat in the worlds that couldn't give two hoots about fireworks Blush
Our cat loved them, he would stand and watch them for ages, however noisy, he was no wimp!
Heyahun · 01/01/2021 00:34

Stood out on my balcony for half an hour and it was absolutely brilliant - fantastic fireworks all the neighbours out on their balconies! Something enjoyable and lovely to watch- lighten up

Rinoachicken · 01/01/2021 00:34

We get constant fireworks where I live (largish town in Surrey) from around October onwards.

I like fireworks. I like going to organised displays.

I do not like what honestly sounds like nightly aerial bombing of the residential area I live in. Can’t even see any sparkles, just BOOM that lights up the sky and echoes around the estate, then a few moments later another BOOM and so one, every night. It’s even in daylight sometimes!!

I honestly think if we had a genuine explosion in our area no one would realise as they’d assume it’s just more fucking fireworks.

HibernatingTill2030 · 01/01/2021 00:35

Maybe it depends on what fireworks your neighbours brought, but ours was a thing of beauty! Neighbours out (all by own front doors, no mixing here) and lots of waving and greetings going on.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 01/01/2021 00:36

Lots of people will do them for their kids then put them to bed.
