Really Loud Fireworks

Caspah · 31/12/2020 19:36

Going off at this time of night, when we're in tier 3. God knows what it'll sound like towards midnight. I hate fireworks at any time because I have dogs, who are terrified. The fact that I'm having to deal with a scared animal, combined with moving into the shit of 2020 passed on to 2021, makes me think at least we could have done without the explosives.

YANBU.

I like fireworks, we had some for Bonfire Night and the only reason we're not having any tonight is it's too bloody cold to stand outside. But the noise levels need to come down. I bet a lot of the really loud bangs are Cat 3 fireworks being let off in too small a space too.

@Yesmate

Why is it selfish?! Fireworks are for celebrations. Is it simple to like music as well because it’s loud *@RedtreesRedtrees*

Tell you what is selfish, having to avoid dog shit when you don’t have a dog. Having to avoid dogs jumping up at you when you don’t have a dog. That’s every day. NYE is one day. Tough shit, let people celebrate.

What is selfish is fireworks going off multiple times a year . I hate them. And yes, I've a facial injury from a firework display. As to dogs, which wasn't in the OP... I agree with treading in their poo but it rarely happens. Many dog owners have a problem with feral children that parents don't control who think it's cute to allow their children to manhandle dogs, even though the dogs are on leads... as though people's dogs are a petting zoo.

@RedtreesRedtrees

Basically some people are a bit simple and bright lights and loud bangs equal fun. There’s no other context where producing that kind of noise from your back garden would be acceptable. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately because people are always going to be selfish. I hope your dogs are ok.
I don't believe adults are that simple that they enjoy hearing loud bangs just for the hell of it.

They do it because they get a kick out of frightening animals.

Yesmate · 31/12/2020 22:45

@1Morewineplease My child asks before he strokes a dog, or at least he did before one off a lead came bounding up to him and knocked him over. He was 6 by the way.
As for dog shit, it does happen often where I live otherwise I wouldn’t have mentioned it.
My point was simply that dog owners always think people should be considerate of their pets. Maybe they also need some consideration.
It’s New Year’s Eve, I’m done with this pointless discussion. Fireworks will go off, there are plenty of remedies out there for you scared pet. Use them.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 31/12/2020 22:52

Some of these posts have to be made by drunk people right ? I mean bloody hell.

FGS it's new years eve after a bloody awful year. I pretty much have top trumps I reckon and ASD ds1 who is curled under a blanket with his ear defenders on , a ds2 who cannot sleep for the fireworks noise and a truly neurotic dog who much as I love her jumped last week because a leaf fell next to her. Even I think let them get on with it tonight. I'm in a seaside town so fireworks tend to go about a week either side of an event.

Of course it's a pain and of course it's not my ideal but some of the wording on here is mind boggling. Do pp honestly think they are genuinely being rational ? It's new years eve why would my dog and family take precedence over someone else? My choice to have DC and my choice ot have DC...did some of you prepare the frothing at the mouth and clenched teeth from this morning.

Although would like to point out to the dog haters , you know there are some of us who are very responsible right ? My ddog never ever jumps up at others (I will admit shes getting on a bit so probably not all down to us but I swear she is following my " Can't be arsed " example setting ) , and I am scrupulous about picking up and keeping her away from people ( Not that hard to be fair....see leaf incident above )

You have gone off the point of the thread.
You have a conscientious child ( tick) and I have a nervous dog ( tick)
What has this to to do with dog shit?
The OP was talking about fireworks!

User158340 · 31/12/2020 22:55

It's not just NYE though is it? The firework fetishists go on all winter now.

Yesmate · 31/12/2020 23:04

@1Morewineplease the OP was talking about her dog and fireworks

booboomoo · 31/12/2020 23:05

@RedtreesRedtrees but the OP isn't on about every week, she's on about tonight, NYE! Quite normal and to be expected, especially without the big display in central London. Sorry animals don't like it, my dog doesn't either. But the world doesn't revolve around the wishes of other peoples animals. My dog also doesn't like people knocking at my door, or my neighbours being in there garden etc so what I should do? Tell these people they can't because of an animal?! Some people on this thread are ridiculous Confused

Plussizejumpsuit · 31/12/2020 23:06

You posted this at 7.30 it's hardly a time to be saying this time of night about!

1Morewineplease · 31/12/2020 23:13

@Yesmate
Op mentioned dog in passing.
You went off on one.
Leave it be dear.

Dawnlassie · 31/12/2020 23:18

Honestly, in the nicest possible way get over it. I have a dog who is scared! It's NYE what do you expect? It's quite a normal thing to let off fireworks and other people's lives do not revolve around you and your dog/baby/general feelings etc. Even if it's annoying just have a glass of wine and relax or something

I would not mind if it was at midnight. Or even between 11:30 and 12:30. But no, its constantly all fucking night thats what most of use are taking issue with.

Yesmate · 31/12/2020 23:21

@1Morewineplease “dear” oh ffs you are one of those. Happy New Year 🤦🏻‍♀️

1Morewineplease · 31/12/2020 23:24

Are you still banging on about this?
Christ alive!

Yesmate · 31/12/2020 23:28

@1Morewineplease yes I am dear

SuperHighway · 31/12/2020 23:31

A bit like hunting, I really can't understand the mentality of anyone who enjoys an activity that terrifies wildlife/livestock/domestic pets. I'd ban the bloody things.

peboh · 31/12/2020 23:34

Fireworks here have been going off since before 5pm . I could care less that it's nye or a tradition. It isn't bloody necessary for them be going off for 7+ hours. It's never been this bad, and I think people should have a little bit more respect for the fact that more people are at home this year and not be setting the bloody things off all evening.

Mor12 · 31/12/2020 23:35

I’m not sure what there is to celebrate to be honestz

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 31/12/2020 23:38

I fucking hate the things. A big organised display, yes. Shitty backyard fireworks that have more bang than sparkle? No thanks.

I can. Sadists.
RichardMarxisinnocent · 31/12/2020 23:38

@adawong

you kinda expect it on bonfire night and New Years If only, they have been going off every fucking night since the middle of September around here.
Same here. I am terrified of them, but whenever I mention that on a thread about fireworks nobody seems to give a shit.
SuperHighway · 01/01/2021 00:00

Sounds like a fucking war zone outside now. Thoughtless bastards.

Dawnlassie · 01/01/2021 00:02

What a bunch of cunts

Sounds the same here. I've never heard anything like it, it's definitely worse than previous years.
