This is for the person who asked if her husband was also lied to. The video seems to answer this.

Be more angry about men taking women only spaces.

Where’s your voice for the women (mainly immigrants btw) who’s space was stolen by Hilaria? Or is it okay for privileged, wealthy white women to cosplay other ethnicities and steal other women’s spaces then, just not men?

BloggersBlog · 31/12/2020 12:17

@LongPauseNoAnswer

If a man can put on a dress, call himself Susan and get a job meant for representation of women’s lived experience and everyone applauds her, why can’t Hilaria have her Spanish identity.

Be more angry about men taking women only spaces.

Cant they both be wrong? There isnt a limit on misrepresentation as far as I know
MsHedgehog · 31/12/2020 12:21

Be more angry about men taking women only spaces.

So I guess we should ignore the harm she has caused to immigrants, the fact that she has used her privilege to portray herself as more exotic without dealing with the prejudices that immigrants usually face (and then lie and claim she's suffered from them too), simply because she's a white woman?

LemonBreeland · 31/12/2020 12:21

That video of her Mum is so funny. It definitely is a case of what the hell name does my daughter call herself now.

Butchyrestingface · 31/12/2020 12:26

I don't understand why the stupid woman couldn't have just gone with the actual truth - that she is an American born and raised non-native speaker of Spanish who has learned the language to a high level? That is bloody impressive in itself and would likely have earned her praise.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Freddie Highmore have conducted interviews in Spanish (both less fluent than HB) and met with a very positive reception on Youtube and SM sites.

I've seen Jodie Foster and Kristin Scott Thomas conduct interviews in French and both are lauded as extremely proficient speakers of their second language.

None of the above have ever pretended to be anything other than what they are, native speakers of English and certainly not tried to present themselves as actually Spanish/French.

I can only imagine the actual truth wasn't likely to feed whatever victim status HB wants to construct for herself.

BloggersBlog · 31/12/2020 12:28

I do wonder if "the source" is Trump getting his own back as PPs have suggested, interesting thought!

LEELULUMPKIN · 31/12/2020 12:31

Imagine every time she steps out of the Brownstone and people shout "cucumber" at her.

And naming all her kids with Spanish names. I wonder if she lied to them?

I'm guessing she will be knocking out an el bebé to deflect and call it something like Brad or Kennedy.

froggywentacarolling · 31/12/2020 14:04

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently the first person to out HB as a liar online (not the person who tweeted earlier this month, but someone who was posting online about HB's fraud years ago) was an Alec Baldwin stalker who eventually went to prison for stalking him.

Possibly that's what he's referring to with his "consider the source" comments?

Fizzydrinks123 · 31/12/2020 14:24

@LongPauseNoAnswer - it is touched on the previous thread -
undercurrent to any of this style of identity politics.

The concept of saying "how you feel" about your nationality/identity is a useful analogy for people to question why they are willing to be brow beaten into accepting other ideas people are told it is "unkind" to question.

I don't think being angry really gets anyone anywhere at the end of the day.

Demonstrate outcomes from not using critical thinking is more likely to give people space to form their own opinions and gain confidence to express and question ideas they've been told are "unkind" to countenance.

People do keep coming on to say these posters are "jealous" or "nasty" for discussing this on MN etc - the usual telling women what they're allowed to think/say/question - "gossiping" etc.

So yes all in these two threads for all to see .

Flaxmeadow · 31/12/2020 14:38

This is just the whole American "identity" thing taken to an extreme. Americans pretend to be from places they're not all the time.

Biden calls himself "Irish". People say they're "African American" or "Italian American" but have never even visited Africa or Italy. The USA has many odd categories of this kind of labelling, as seen on the other thread

It has also exposed the amount of Americans who think "Spain" is a Latin American country and that Spanish people are "non white"

Bizarre

Flaxmeadow · 31/12/2020 14:55

I tried to answer this on the other thread, but didn't realise the thread had reached its post limit

I had a Portuguese pen pal who had blue eyes... am I dreaming that Celts first came from Spain...?

The "Celts" or a Celt culture is thought to have originated in the area roughly around what is now South Germany and Switzerland during the iron age. They/It spread across most of Europe, becoming dominant from around the 3rd century BC . It is unclear whether this was a movement of people out of the area or a spreading of a culture, or a mixture of both. It is more a time period, language group and culture, rather than an ethnicity. The Celts would probably have appeared physically no different to the way most Europeans look today.

stairway · 31/12/2020 14:56

I doubt any genuine Spanish people were harmed by this, not have any of them missed the opportunity to be Baldwin’s spouse. Spain itself was a colonial power which is why there seems to be genuine confusion between Spanish speakers from South America and actually Spanish. I wonder if this scandal has even been mentioned in Spain. Who knows she might even managed to get Spanish nationality legally in a few years.

DrManhattan · 31/12/2020 15:52

Funny when AB is saying consider the source when he is the source lol
All those interviews when he is referring to her as Spanish. Too funny

Andylion · 31/12/2020 15:59

@TanglinOrchards

Right!

I was so prepared to give the benefit of the doubt.

But that video. 'Consider the source'.

wowsers.

Who is the source that he refers to so ominously? It's like that creepy Kevin Spacey video with some subtext that leaves you wondering.
Fizzydrinks123 · 31/12/2020 16:13

the main source of his wife's nationality is Alec himself - imitating a Spanish accent saying his wife is from Spain in numerous video clips and also saying he's not being racist by speaking in that Spanish accent etc. because his wife IS Spanish after all...

the source Alec refers to in the bizarre video is:

this article says source wants to stay anonymous, another below - not so:

sandandso · 31/12/2020 16:15

"Consider the source" refers to Twitter. He says it at the end of a long rant about how social media is full of fake news.
There's a reason he was able to play Trump so well... Some similarities under the skin!

Flaxmeadow · 31/12/2020 16:29

I saw some comments on Social media saying that the source, not the Amy Schumer thing, was someone who had stalked AB. Not sure what that was about. Anyone?

Fizzydrinks123 · 31/12/2020 16:37

No, the only person I've heard say that, is you.... (no help) but I think published news stories probably would have gone down a stalker angle if it was out there, so as Alec and his ilk like to say "fake news"?

MsHedgehog · 31/12/2020 16:38

@Flaxmeadow I've not seen that but I think I have previously seek that he had a stalker.

Although I've read that people, including old school friends, have been commenting about HB for quite some time on social media. Unless the person behind the Twitter tweet which sparked all this has been on a campaign for quite some time to expose HB (not impossible considering she's a stalker), then I think it's probably more than one source.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 31/12/2020 16:46

It's a bloody odd thing to do. Possibly the weirdest bit for me is the video HB put out where she's got the most Spanish accent imaginable, and is saying 'y' every other word. 'Sooo... it wasss berry difficul para me... y muy mal... y...supermercado... y mariposa... y'

I should point out that one of the blokes who works in my Tesco Express thinks I'm Spanish. Because he doesn't speak English as a first language, and when I said 'oh yes, I'll be visiting my parents in Spain for our holiday this summer' in my very English accent, he took that to mean I'm Spanish. I'm too embarrassed to correct him.

itsmeagain76 · 31/12/2020 16:48

It must have been really tempting though! Imagine you had gone to school with someone who was clearly white with a certain accent. Suddenly they are not only 'famous' and moving in 'famous' circles, but presenting as a different ethnicity/culture, speaking with an affected accent, embellishing and exaggerating facts or downright lying about their place of birth and background. It must be crazy for everyone who knew her when she was just a plain old American kid.
I wonder how much she has also changed her physical self to fit in with the illusion?
She'll be hiding all the fake tan and black hair dye from Alec........

From what we know of Alec's nature, and the fact that this has escalated across the time she's been with Alec, and that he had a thing for Latina women (Salma Hayek) - it has occurred to me that her exaggerated performance may be coming from him. In other words, not only does he know fuck's sake, course he does but he ordained it. I found it rather chilling when Alec said that she was the most mentally healthy person he knows. Narcissistic people covet, envy and like to break the best qualities of those nearest to them.

I think she seems mentally vulnerable and, by all accounts of those who have know her since she was very young, she is a lovely person.

Well, I suppose your theory makes a refreshing change from the usual narrative where the woman is blamed for everything. Grin
froggywentacarolling · 31/12/2020 18:03

The stalker thing is somewhat true (and crazy!).

Back in 2013 Alec Baldwin was stalked by a Canadian actress and former co-star who claimed she'd had a relationship with him while he was dating/engaged to Hilaria but that he'd ghosted her after they had sex. He admitted they'd gone on dates but denied having sex with her. She repeatedly turned up at his house and at his events (in an attempt to "gain closure"), and was verbally abusive towards Hilaria. She was eventually sentenced to six months in prison.

During the time she was stalking him she tweeted a whole lot of nasty stuff about Hilaria, including the (now confirmed as true) allegations about her lying about her birthplace and pretending to be Spanish.

She's not the person who made the viral tweet over Christmas which started this whole scandal, but I just googled her name a second ago and her entire Twitter feed is just ranting and raving about Hilaria and trying to use the current scandal to get her stalking conviction overturned.

Thanks for the replies about "the stalker".
Interesting Froggy
