That's what I was wondering. Surely her parents were at the wedding speaking and acting like Americans? Unless they played along too? They cant not have known she was pretending to be Spanish! Its all so weird.

I can't stand Alec Baldwin. He's a pompous jerk, based on everything I've ever seen of him. I doubt any of this is a surprise to him, but if it is, I still don't feel sorry for him!

Think Ireland was even younger. He called her a pig, didn't he? That was quite a big story.

Some questions I have are: what do her parents think about it? Has she lost contact with all her old school friends, or what do they say? When did she start down this path? Has she started to believe her own lie? Or is it cynical marketing? What has she been telling her children? And so many more!

Oh also, to what extent might she be altering her appearance?

From the NYT article it sounds like it was an open secret that no one in the know spoke about publicly.

Her ex dance partner said she always wanted to be considered Spanish but he still seems pretty surprised about it.

Laughably she claims that she kept her background details murky in order to protect her family and draw some healthy boundaries. As it points out this is a woman who posts pregnancy photos in her underwear and plasters her kids all over Instagram.

Except she deliberately claimed to be Spanish. She went as far as claiming her own family (the multi generation American doctor mum and lawyer dad) couldn't pronounce "Baldwin". She claimed she had 35 off family travel from Spain to her wedding - which has transpired to be "adopted" family (i.e. friends). And as PP said, she posts videos and posts about her children all the time.

Well as someone was telling MN users off for discussing gossip and we are told we should be on Tattle - I typed in Tattle as had never heard of it before and post from March 2020 had all the details of what's unravelled over Christmas.

So the Baldwins knew they were losing control of this story back in March for sure if it's hitting English gossip sites.

It seems to be pretty spot on, so I wonder if the comment about her correcting articles to insert "Spain" is true? that would be at odds with her current explanation of it is the media's fault.

This. She is on record in several interviews saying that she moved to the USA from Spain, has family in Spain (only true because her parents retired there, not true because of actual Spanish connection by birth). She either outright lied or was intentionally obtuse and vague in interviews when questioned. If you scroll to the 1:24 mark in this video it shows how she tried to deflect a question about her heritage and gives a weird mumbled answer. I can't believe she is surprised people are baffled about this and stating it's the medias fault! Also claims she never knew her birthplace was listed as Spain, and never read ANY of the final articles published in the Spanish magazines. Yeah right. Someone who lives their lives on social media doesn't read an article about herself which SHE willingly gave? Sometimes it's better to admit to being a dick, instead of digging yourself a deeper hole!

There's a video of her mum talking about her own life and children. When she talks about her son she's like "oh my son Jeremy blah blah" in very normal fluid speech. Then she says "and my daughter" then gives this massive pause like she has to remember what to call her daughter, and sort of sounds out the syllables in "Ill-air-eee-ah" as though she's unfamiliar with saying it out loud.

So her mother at least clearly knew and was going along with it in public. (And from the difficulties she had pronouncing Hilaria maybe doesn't call her that in private.)

So is the suggestion that she's done it all because she's a gold digger and AB is just a means to an end?

But she herself comes from a rich family?

I mean, no doubt she's set herself up for life anyway with so many children. The reality is he'll very likely die way before her and of course the children will need enough money to be looked after for years. She couldn't do that as a yoga instructor on her own.

A very odd couple between them.

The new part saying that she did it to protect her family is hilarious. She is digging herself a deeper and deeper hole.

I follow her on Instagram, not because I like her, but find her fascinating. Seemingly popping out as many kids as possible before AB carks it and talking about celebrating all bodies while showing off her tiny waist a very short time after giving birth.

I've only just seen this story and come across these threads. As if 2020 couldn't have got any weirder. This story has quite brightened my day. What a nutcase and I'm so glad they've been found out. Hilarious. Alec Baldwin is vile.

The fact her brother’s called Jeremy should have been a hint - it’s not very Spanish is it. I’d assume it’s pretty hard for Spaniards to say too?
