I came across this link earlier and am absolutely sickened. How can human beings be so disgustingly cruel? How can these monsters even live with themselves?! Sad

Sorry for the DM link but on the other hand, I’m glad they’re publicising this when other media outlets aren’t.

I don't think people are going to click your link. Can you give an idea of what your talking about

ghostyslovesheets · 30/12/2020 17:57

I am guessing you are vegan OP?

Coriandersucks · 30/12/2020 17:58

I’m not clicking on that thanks. Fully aware there are sickos out there, also aware there even worse sickos who get off on watching and sharing those videos.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 30/12/2020 17:58

Hate stuff like this. I saw this on the DM the other day and had to scroll past it.

Basically a load of pictures showing animal abuse isn't it, in the entertainment and food industries.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 30/12/2020 17:59

@ghostyslovesheets

I am guessing you are vegan OP?
The OP doesn't have to be vegan just because she is horrified by animal abuse.
bluewanda · 30/12/2020 18:00

I am guessing you are vegan OP?

No I’m not and I’m so ashamed of myself Sad

So only vegans dislike animal torture. Jesus...... 😂
ghostyslovesheets · 30/12/2020 18:00

it's a book of photos - they are flogging the book - not really highlighting animal cruelty - the book depicts scenes from the food and entertainment sectors world wide that are uncomfortable to view

bluewanda · 30/12/2020 18:01

Yes. Good on Joaquin Phoenix for supporting this project.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/12/2020 18:01

allalphabetsoup1980 no - a majority of the images the OP is upset by are from the food industry - so it's a relevant question

Suzi888 · 30/12/2020 18:02

YANBU don’t want to click the link. Humans are a plague.

Suzi888 · 30/12/2020 18:02

I’m not vegan, I don’t want my food abused either? Who does and why?

Wife2b · 30/12/2020 18:03

I clicked the link and wish I hadn’t. Some people have no heart and don’t deserve a place on this planet. It’s so upsetting seeing the the suffering one person is willing to inflect on another. I’d urge other people to not look at the link if they’re easily upset :(.

bluewanda · 30/12/2020 18:03

not really highlighting animal cruelty

I don’t see how you can think this book doesn’t highlight animal cruelty. It absolutely does. It’s heartbreaking that people are capable of such evil and even seem to revel in it Sad

Fr0thandBubble · 30/12/2020 18:06

You sound kind OP, please do look into going vegan - it’s veganuary in a couple of days and there’s loads of support available for those who want to give it a try.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/12/2020 18:07

Male calves produced via the dairy industry aren't hugged to death
male chickens aren't tickled until they fall into a peaceful sleep then gently killed
any animal we eat are killed - in fairly quick and brutal ways - ditto the ones we wear.

Animal cruelty is awful - in countries without the luxury of better food it's often a factor in production - but most animal based food has a cruelty aspect somewhere.

I think we can often get angry at sensational pictures - that's not a bad thing - but you can also begin closer to home if it really bothers you.

TLIMSISNW · 30/12/2020 18:10

Have you watched Dominion?

It’s terrible but it changed my family’s eating habits for life. I went vegan and my (previously steak-fuelled, meat machine) DH went vegetarian.

It sickens me how people can treat animals.

Fr0thandBubble · 30/12/2020 18:12

@Suzi888. You say “I don’t want my food abused” but the thing is... animals are not “food” - they are living, sentient beings who should have a right to life, just like you or me.

You cannot “humanely” kill someone who does not want to be killed. If we needed meat to live, fine. But we don’t - people eat meat because they like the taste. So you are putting your pleasure ahead of an animals fear, pain and suffering. That’s got to be wrong, hasn’t it?

PeachesBright · 30/12/2020 18:19

I urge you all to watch a documentary called "Earthlings".

(narrated by Joaquin Phoenix)

Airyfairymarybeary · 30/12/2020 18:20

It’s time people wake up and stopped ignoring the facts/turning a blind eye.
If you consume animal products then you attributing to animal cruelty.
Give veganuary a try!

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 30/12/2020 18:22

And they say humans have evolved.. Seems not all have imo.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 30/12/2020 18:25

Isn't it yet more exploitation to sell books of these photographs?

Why would anyone want to buy the book? For the same reason people buy human misery-memoirs or watch horror films - because at some level, some people enjoy being shocked and horrified.

There must be better ways to support the humane treatment of animals.

FestiveSocksRock · 30/12/2020 18:26

@ghostyslovesheets

I am guessing you are vegan OP?
Famously, only vegans care about animal welfare. Everyone else just loves to see animal torture videos. It's like a Saturday night at the movies to anyone who also enjoys an egg sandwich. Hmm
Inthelab · 30/12/2020 18:27

I couldn’t click the link but since I have started keeping chickens I have been horrified that I used to eat them. They have friendships, personalities and are sentient beings.
Most people don’t want to know this because they don’t want to give up meat.

I don’t know what the answer is but it’s chilling how animals are treated.

PrincessNutNuts · 30/12/2020 18:28

We're vegans now.

I realised one day that we were just outsourcing that cruelty. Just paying people to do it for us. Literally giving people money for doing that horror to animals.

I don't want animals caged, tortured, terrified, and abused for me.
