I came across this link earlier and am absolutely sickened. How can human beings be so disgustingly cruel? How can these monsters even live with themselves?! Sad

Sorry for the DM link but on the other hand, I’m glad they’re publicising this when other media outlets aren’t.

I’m not a vegan but I isn’t spend my spare time kicking puppies to death
Interestingly I was having a conversation with a vegan friend about the wildlife rescue centre I volunteer at and explaining how we look after the hedgehogs. She said it sounded gross and she could never do anything like that. I explained I seem to have become the local go to person for animal in distress and how it’s not uncommon to have something recuperating in the garage and she said she wouldn’t even consider doing anything like that
So who’s the animal lover?

That’s a really weird justification Hmm
Inthelab · 30/12/2020 18:30

I mean you can do both you know...

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2020 18:32

I am saying that not all vegans are necessarily bigger animal lovers than all meat eaters.
I spent part of my day today checking sheep at a community farm, managed not to eat a single one

unicornpower · 30/12/2020 18:33

Unfortunately these images are nothing new, animals suffer unspeakable atrocities at the hands of humans and its despicable. I gave up meet when I drove past a lorry full of cows which may or may not have been on their way to a slaughterhouse and I saw their little noses through the gaps and I had to ask myself why we get to decide when they die? Honestly OP, try reducing meat intake if it bothers you, you don't have to go cold turkey but vegetarian food is delicious and super healthy too! And bit by bit just reduce it and then decide if you want to go vegan too- you can do it!

Theres a group on Facebook that follows three girls that save animals from Chinese slaughterhouses (mainly dogs but other animals too) they are wonderful people and its really heartwarming xxxx

Inthelab · 30/12/2020 18:34

I followed a sheep slaughter lorry once and one of the sheep had its neck trapped in the loading door. I tried to flag down the driver but I couldn’t. The whole industry is awful.

PaperScissorsRock · 30/12/2020 18:34

The way animals are routinely kept is disgusting.
I worked on farms where higher welfare was a priority, it’s not impossible to do.

Some of the language in the article is misleadingly emotive though - day old chicks separated from their mothers and unprotected from the elements? The chicks have been hatched in hatcheries, they are not exposed to the elements as they would die. Industrialised farming can be cruel, and everyone should make an informed choice whether to support it or not, but it’s important to report facts.

CherryPieface · 30/12/2020 18:35

The meat in most of our supermarkets comes from animals kept in horrendous conditions, presumably they are included in some of the images in the book?

MiriamMargo · 30/12/2020 18:36

@ghostyslovesheets

I am guessing you are vegan OP?
What an ignorant abhorrent comment!
FestiveSocksRock · 30/12/2020 18:37

I like what you did there. Props.

Frouby · 30/12/2020 18:40

I'm glad we've left the EU, some of those photos, the dairy farm in poland and the pig ones from finland are disgusting. You kind of expect it from China et al, but not the EU which are supposed to set better standards.

I'm not vegan or even vegetarian but try to eat and buy ethically, you don't have to be vegan to support animal welfare.

Kaliorphic · 30/12/2020 18:41

Give veganuary a try!

I don't get why people have to wait for a certain date in the year to end a behaviour they find morally abhorrent. Smacks of virtue signalling en masse to me. Why wouldn't one stop as soon as they 'saw the light'.

june2007 · 30/12/2020 18:42

It,s silly saying vegetarian food is delicious, it,s like any food some is delicious some is not. And yes I do think of animals as food as we are ominvours. Iff you choose to be Vegan great but you can be a meat eater and still care for the wellbeing of the animals.

Wellyouknowbest · 30/12/2020 18:42

I wish I hadn't clicked that link, those kind of images don't leave me.

Peacocking · 30/12/2020 18:43

Anyone who criticises animal cruelty without being a vegan is a total hypocrite. It really is that simple. Farmed animals, and especially factory farmed animals have horrific, painful, tortured lives and deaths worse than anything you could imagine. They're all intelligent and sentient. Even chickens rival 7 year old children in some intelligence tests, but noone likes to hear their slaughtered dinner was smart and loving.

Similarly, why would you insult someone who was, at least, trying? It seems like the least effective method to get anyone to "see the light" and the most effective method to just put them off trying altother.

Ha! Unintentional but quite apt Wink
Kaliorphic · 30/12/2020 18:45

Simply asking a question festive. If you choose to take offence rather than considering why, then I think that probably says more about you than it does me.

willowtree81 · 30/12/2020 18:46

Yes, anyone who is uncomfortable with animal cruelty - I LOVE food and was a big meat eater ....never imagined I'd go vegan .....BUT it is honestly one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life! Feel so much better for it in so many ways. Not what I was expecting.

Can not recommend it highly enough. A whole new exciting world of food opened up.

As others said Veganuary is great and all free. ❤️ You won't regret it.

willowtree81 · 30/12/2020 18:49

(P.s. @bluewanda - or anyone else- if going vegan was something you'd consider, you're always welcome to message me with any questions.)

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 30/12/2020 18:50

I find it fascinating to see people justify meat eating by claiming they only buy ethical meat Confused I don't understand how you ethically kill something that doesn't want to die..
I'm not vegan by the way. I think I must be a psychopath because those photos don't upset me. I don't think its nice but it no longer gives me an emotional reaction. I think if you're going to eat meat you have to come to terms with the fact there is suffering behind it. I'm more bothered by how we treat humans. In the news today a woman in Italy was beaten with a hammer and raped as she died.. I haven't seen any hysterical AIBU threads about that.

FestiveSocksRock · 30/12/2020 18:51

Oh, I was "just asking a simple question" back. If you feel that was a judgement on you, that probably says more about you than me Grin

KarmaNoMore · 30/12/2020 18:54

I'm glad we've left the EU, some of those photos, the dairy farm in poland and the pig ones from finland are disgusting.

If you think that is disgusting wait until we align our farming standard with the US. I had never encountered a dairy farm whose thousands of cows are not up to their knees in excrement, you can smell them miles and miles away.

Kaliorphic · 30/12/2020 18:54

Well you said I was trying to insult people. I see you can't answer the question though. I'm not surprised. The answer is pretty uncomfortable right.

Godimabitch · 30/12/2020 18:56

@ghostyslovesheets

Not really showing non-vegans in good light that comment is it? Do you love animal torture then?

Animal abuse is so severe, I don't think we'll ever stop it. Just like we wont stop child trafficking or rape. Horrible people do horrible things to beings that have less power than them.
