Sick of going for walks

User158340 · 28/12/2020 09:04

Anyone else having to really drag themselves to go out at the moment?

I actually love going for a walk, but after 9 months of the same local walks i'm sick to death of them. The freezing cold weather obviously compounds it and the rain etc.

Yesterday I actually didn't leave the house at all and ended up awake half the night. Now I have to motivate myself to go for a longish walk today in 'feels like' minus temperatures.

I feel your pain. I'm trying to mix up places/combinations of people, reverse favourite walks etc but it's getting increasingly difficult.

Thunderpunt · 28/12/2020 09:07

I know your probably not suppose to travel too far away from your home but if you're looking to explore a little further afield, there's a great app called Footpath. It shows on a map all public footpaths/byways... and can help explore new areas. There's nothing worse than spotting a footpath leading off somewhere but having no idea where you might end up - this will help you plan a route. Maybe give that a try? We used it in the summer as like you were bored with our regular walks, it opened up whole new areas for us.

Bagelsandbrie · 28/12/2020 09:07

Same here. Feel like I spend my life just walking in circles, feel like a hamster in a wheel.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 28/12/2020 09:08

Same here. Back in the spring I really enjoyed rediscovering my local area, now I'm sick to death of it. Really struggling to motivate myself and DS to get out at the moment.

TerrifiedandWorried · 28/12/2020 09:08

Recommend taking croissants, coffee and crossword and sitting on a fallen tree with a friend though.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/12/2020 09:08

Same. We've been in tier 3 since the dawn of time and I miss museums and play centres and all those other lovely indoor and heated things we took for granted before covid. What I would give for a coffee and a slice of cake and a batter with the other mums while the kids run riot in the play area!

winechateauxjoy · 28/12/2020 09:08

Try geocaching to mix it up a bit if you have near to you?

tired17 · 28/12/2020 09:09

Definitely. I'm fed up with them as well which is compounded at the moment by flooding on the "off road" walks meaning that the only walking is on pavements. Also snow forecast today as well.

I also find that I don't sleep as well if I don't get enough exercise and I am having really weird dreams at the moment which seems to be linked to it all

Florelei · 28/12/2020 09:09

I feel you. The paths around here are so muddy you end up with mud over the tops of your wellies. Plus the dog needs a bath pretty much every time we go out.

To try to keep active I’ve started an intensive cleaning project in my house. It’s never been cleaner than it is now!

Random789 · 28/12/2020 09:09

I've been listening to Moby Dick while out walking. Its on Spotify so nothing to pay. It is an amazing book that I would probably never have actually read on paper, or even have the patience to sit and listen to at home.

So I'd definitely recommend audiobooks as a way to make walks more appealing.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/12/2020 09:09

A natter even. I don't want to batter the other mums

Sittinginmyoodie · 28/12/2020 09:10

I will probably be compared to Hitler for doing so. But I do travel out of my area for walks. We stay outside. We still follow the guidelines.

TerrifiedandWorried · 28/12/2020 09:10

Geocaching is a good idea. Maybe I'll download Pokémon go for DS2. There are loads of quiz walks and stuff online. I'm off to plan some more fun ones.

nosswith · 28/12/2020 09:10

Please drag yourself out, even if only for half an hour. I understand it can be difficult, but do not get into a period of time never leaving the house. Taking a coffee or tea (other hot beverage if you prefer) may make it easier.

LolaSmiles · 28/12/2020 09:11

Same here. It's good trying to stay local, but I'm bored of doing the same walks, and so are my dogs to be honest. I'm sure I could let them off and they'd walk themselves.

I'm looking forward to the spring/summer when the weather picks up and things are hopefully better in general to start exploring a lot more which I enjoy doing. I have walks I love but as I don't drive i'm pretty much staying within a few miles of my front door, so it's just the same walks every single day.

I second audio books or podcasts if you're walking alone. The time seems to fly by if I'm listening to something good.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 28/12/2020 09:13

I’m so with you . Am in Ireland, we locked down 12th March, we had two months over the summer which was somewhat “ normal “ though still no play centers etc open . Then back to square one.
The spring and summer I could cope with , out for hours every day .
It’s an actual nightmare now with a 2 and a 7 year old . It’s so cold out, we can all only manage an hour outside . And now with the talk of kids not going back to school I’m wondering wtf we are going to do in the house for 12 hours a day - apart from the dreaded homeschool - too early for gin?? Gin

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 28/12/2020 09:14

Same but I'm of the mind that if I arrive somewhere in my car, then walk, then get back in my car and drive home, I'm a risk to no one. Find somewhere new you can travel to, your mental well being will thank you.

zzzebra · 28/12/2020 09:16

Yep, I love you walking but walking in the same loop almost daily for 9 months is taking it toll.
We're tier 4 and tried to do go somewhere different yesterday to save my sanity but everything was either flooded, too muddy for little legs, or rammed.
It's going to be a long winter.

Me too, and they can flog me for it, the rules make no sense on this one

Definitely. Yesterday was the first day in probably years I haven't left the house because I just couldn't be bothered. Normally i'd go out for the sales on Boxing Day, go out for a few drinks to see friends, or visit family.

I didn’t even like bloody walking to begin with!! I find it intolerably dull. But yes, even more so now. Back in March/April it was sort of a novelty. Now....zzzzzzzz.

I agree, it's great, I always do it.. I've just hit a wall with it after 9 months given the weather and the same walks every day.

@anguauberwaldironfoundersson
Amen to that.
It's just too cold for my LO to stop outside mid walk for a coffee and natter with a friend.
