Sick of going for walks

User158340 · 28/12/2020 09:04

Anyone else having to really drag themselves to go out at the moment?

I actually love going for a walk, but after 9 months of the same local walks i'm sick to death of them. The freezing cold weather obviously compounds it and the rain etc.

Yesterday I actually didn't leave the house at all and ended up awake half the night. Now I have to motivate myself to go for a longish walk today in 'feels like' minus temperatures.

We turned an occasional walk into a regular after the ducklings first and then the cygnets hatched.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 28/12/2020 16:20

I’m usually so relieved I’ve got a DC out and getting air
I also like seeing the change in seasons and the extra visibility in winter
Just me then !!!

Di11y · 28/12/2020 16:35

My youngest DD is 3 and she's officially bored of the park! All our good woods are so muddy or flooded, keep having to wash muddy coats.

VestaTilley · 28/12/2020 16:37

Download the Ordnance Survey app- will show you lots of walks nearby you didn’t know existed.

But YANBU- I love country walks in all weathers, but even I would quite like something else to do now...

dottiedodah · 28/12/2020 16:38

Try to go out at different times of day .Can you maybe alternate mornings /afternoons /early evenings ? Sometimes a slight change in routine can help .Try a different route if you can .

tempnamechange98765 · 28/12/2020 16:43

Yes! I'm the same love walks and with two small DC we mainly spend our weekends on walks/playgrounds/beaches. But that's all we've done for 9 months and the weather isn't exactly the best.

So over it.

Littlecaf · 28/12/2020 16:49

Yes also fed up of the local walks around here and we’re next door to a National park! If I have to empty one more welly full of water and the kids like the idea of going out but after about 30mins they are freezing and moaning....(5 & 3 so only got little legs) we made it to the local supermarket today only for DS to fall in a massive puddle on the way home and it Chuck it down....... not fun.

maureenfrombarnsley · 28/12/2020 16:57

Ugh I hear you. So fed up of all the same walks now, especially with the weather as it is. You can try the stately home/National trust gardens but those are often ticketed and tend to be sold out on the day, so there's little spontaneity.
Outdoor playgrounds or attractions are always wet/muddy and when they aren't they're rammed. Our pre-schoolers are bored shitless and so are we.

LazyDoll · 28/12/2020 16:59

I fell into flood water yesterday on a walk. All our local walks have been impacted by the floods (this one more than others!) I misplaced my foot walking on a small ridge and ended up in to my waist Confused. I guess it spiced the walk up and gave us all something different to talk about though 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

BogRollBOGOF · 28/12/2020 16:59

@garlictwist

Yeah, me too. And everywhere is so muddy. All these people who discovered new places in their local area in lockdown really surprised me - how? There is literally nowhere new to go. However, I am 40 and grew up here so nothing is novel now.
It amused me how many people "discovered" the disused railway trail about half a mile from home that runs parallell to the edge of our neighbourhood. I gave it a swerve March-June as it was too busy, and went further beyond into the countryside.

I did expand my running zones a bit more, helped by the ground being nicely dried up and have got a few extensions on my regular routes. Normally they'd be hard going over the winter, but I'm wondering if they might be better compared to my usuals because they're more remote and less pulverised by the increased footfall.

RUOKHon · 28/12/2020 17:03

Same. We live near a massive forest - which I appreciate is fortunate and privileged and outside space and blah blah blah. But I’m sick of the fucking sight of it. We were there this morning in 1 degree temperatures and freezing fog and it was SO muddy. Almost impossible to walk in.

I really relate to what a PP says about feeling like a hamster on a wheel. I haven’t left my postcode in months. I’m losing my mind a bit.

ArabellaPilkington · 28/12/2020 17:04

Too muddy round here to do usual woodland walks, so sticking to the roads

Couldn't do it without a friend or a podcast

AndcalloffChristmas · 28/12/2020 17:27

I do like walking so that’s lucky for me. I make us do a lot of walks.

But I agree, the same ones over and over sucks a bit.

Going out of your local area as long as you distance from others seems fine to me.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/12/2020 19:05

It was -1 when we set off today🥶

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/12/2020 19:05

And thick swirling mist!

Ghostlyglow · 28/12/2020 19:17

I force myself to go every day. I hate it at the moment - and the pavement cyclists are back with a vengeance around here. The pavements are filthy because of them riding onto muddy verges and then back to the path (and riding through the dog shit that lazy owners can't be bothered to pick up and spreading that around too)

Oryxx · 28/12/2020 19:44

We have a lovely local park. Over the past 9 months my DCs and I have walked and run every fucking inch of it. We’ve done Pokemon Go, found every geocache within a 5 mile radius of our house and I’m just sick of it now. I have lost all motivation.

We went for a walk today as I felt we should get out but TBH everyone was grumpy, it was muddy and cold and just miserable. We trudged the requisite 5k then headed home.

Fuck it. I’m staying in and eating Quality Street tomorrow.

winterbabythistime · 28/12/2020 19:46

I'm so fed up with our local playpark, it's completely crap. Luckily ds doesn't mind as long as there are other children there. 3 freezing cold hours we spent there this afternoon 🥶

Labobo · 28/12/2020 20:17

It's SO muddy right now. But I still enjoy it. I like watching the turning of the seasons. Even if they are the same old walks, the light is different, the air, the scents, the dogs along the way Grin and the land is different. In March the woods were carpeted with bluebells. Now the fields are heavy with frost and the horses are wearing muddy coats. The other day DS2 and I did a village walk as it was so muddy and coming home we were walking into a huge rainbow. We went out at night last week to buy firewood, felt very medieval coming home by starlight. I still like it but am very bored that it's the only thing to do. I'm way more sick of screens than walks. I work from home anyway, but now everything else is online too I sometimes feel I will puke if I have to log onto another Zoom call.

PerveenMistry · 28/12/2020 20:24

Sometimes I drive a few miles away and walk from there.

Bouledeneige · 28/12/2020 20:28

Yes I've walked every which way locally - lots of parks and woodlands and a heath. But I confess I've been driving a few miles away to explore new areas and big outdoor spaces to get variety. I think its rather important for my mental health and that of my DD.

Biffbaff · 28/12/2020 20:36

My favourite tweet of the year is one that says: Time to go for a stupid fucking little afternoon stroll.

Gson · 28/12/2020 20:49

Yes same here too! Really struggling with the motivation to go for a walk, especially in this weather.

I’ve also noticed my walking pace has slowed right down...like I literally can’t be bothered putting one foot in front of the other anymore Blush

MintyMabel · 29/12/2020 11:37

I envy you all being able to look for different local walks in the first place. DD can’t walk far and only on proper pavements, We’ve spent since March walking the same route round our estate twice a day.

Fefifofaff · 29/12/2020 12:32

I so feel like this. We get to the end of the driveway and say, left or right? And the answer is, who cares? Sick of both of them.
