Hilaria Baldwin pretended to be Spanish wtf?!

Ballstothis148 · 28/12/2020 00:24

This is the least important and most weird story of 2020.... this woman comes up on my Instagram a lot as a suggested page. Tbh I don’t find her interesting but know she’s Spanish and is into health, having babies with Alec Baldwin and that’s pretty much it. She speaks with a Spanish accent, on her IG page she calls her children “Baldwinitos” Hmm I do remember an article saying when she speaks Spanish to her kids people confuse her for a nanny so I thought an interesting take on a European mum in the States.

Except it’s all a lie. She’s not remotely Spanish. Her wealthy Boston parents (no Spanish ancestry) now have a holiday home there.

What is wrong with people?! I include me for being too interested :) why pretend to be Spanish? In one interview she even pretended she didn’t know the word for cucumber as her English isn’t that good Confused

Oh and she’s not even called Hilaria, she’s called Hilary. This year I swear... what an odd story!! I did know a girl who went very French after a romance there one year... maybe it’s a thing!

She's clearly attention seeking, and its obviously working!
Its fakery which we're not supposed to question nowadays, apparently!?
Hilary Thomas is not exactly attention grabbing...

RAOK · 28/12/2020 01:49

@jillypill

What was her motive I wonder? A USP? I thought that was popping out as many babies as possible in the shortest time frame whilst doing headstands.
100% this 😂😂😂
17days · 28/12/2020 01:50

This would be Hilaria-s if it wasn't so sad! Get it??!

So apparently she is saying ‘yes I’m a white girl’. Is Spanish not white?

To most Americans Spanish = Hispanic which = non-white.

What was her motive I wonder?

Probably just wanted to appear more interesting than she really is. Pretty strange though.

Having two versions of your name is not that weird either, most Greek people use Greek/English versions of their name depending on context

It'd be weird for a Spaniard though (not that she is one). I lived in Spain for many years and I've never met a single person who uses an anglicised version of their name.

OvaHere · 28/12/2020 01:54

What a bizarre story. Surely keeping up any kind of pretence for a decade must be hugely stressful when there must be plenty of family and friends of her family who knew it wasn't true. Quite amazing it's only just being pointed out.

notyourhandmaid · 28/12/2020 01:55

Amnesty International and the UN have told us that when people tell us who they are, we must believe them.

chaosmaker · 28/12/2020 01:57

@TheVamoosh

Seems like she grew up in Spain and speaks Spanish to her brother, as per their text conversation. Maybe she played up the angle a bit but it's not exactly a lie, even though she's not "ethnically" Spanish. Having two versions of your name is not that weird either, most Greek people use Greek/English versions of their name depending on context. (E.g. Giorgos/George.)

My child is not "ethnically" British but she's lived here all her life (although she was born here, in her case.) She speaks my mother tongue with a slight British accent. If we move to my country when she gets older, she might still do that. She considers herself to be British. I can sort of see how this could come about.

Ethnically British is just from all the other countries in the world that have invaded or been invaded by the 'British' we're a mush
RickiTarr · 28/12/2020 01:58

Fascinating bit of batshittery. I did do a bit of a double take at the DC who don’t really suit their names. Makes sense now.

jillypill · 28/12/2020 02:11

Amnesty International and the UN have told us that when people tell us who they are, we must believe them.

I keep identifying as a pensioner but they won't give me a freedom pass. fuckers!

NotPrude · 28/12/2020 02:19

Most likely she wanted to play on the whole being exotic and sexy. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Ethnic minorities often struggle with being an outsider and different in the country they’re in, and then you have people like her capitalising on it because they think it sounds cool. Shameful!

I just watched the clip of her not knowing the word for cucumber... this is not a case of someone appreciating Spanish culture, this is someone who wanted to deceive the world into think she’s Spanish.

Toilenstripes · 28/12/2020 02:39

It’s probably something she started to give herself an exotic background, to stand out and be remembered professionally. Maybe it got away from her when she met Alec? 🤷‍♀️

BuntysTwinkle · 28/12/2020 02:43

I would see it as an eccentric quirk, but the fact that she has spoken about being discriminated against as a Spanish person in America shows what her motivation was.

JamieLeesCurtains · 28/12/2020 03:06

Does her husband know? Do her children know?? Does her mother know??? 🎵

MinecraftMother · 28/12/2020 03:10

God, so embarrassing,

Or stunning and brave... 🤔

Tinkerbell456 · 28/12/2020 03:18

So, she’s not at all Spanish then. Apparently, she just wishes she was. I wonder how you feel Spanish? Occasionally, I wish I was a cat.This is usually cured by remembering that cats clean their arses with their tongues. It does not make me a cat. Also, I hate fish.

1forAll74 · 28/12/2020 03:22

Never heard of her, as don't go on Instagram rubbish.

GingerScallop · 28/12/2020 03:23

"If she’s always felt like she’s Spanish, then who are we to say she isn’t? What harm is she doing?

I think she meant Spanish as in Mexican heritage or South/Latin American Spanish.

"What harm?*
It's a trend among a few white Americans to claim heritage of people of colour and thus having benefitted from white privilege throughout their lives, also appropriate the suffering of people of colour and use it to bolster careers, popularity currency (Instagram popularity for example) without actually experiencing the suffering. It's disgusting and unfair to those that actually experience racism. It's unfair to those that have worked tooth and nail and been denied opportunities for a white woman to take some of those opportunities away through pretence. Or to role model what they are not. I won't spell out the harm it can do

sadcatdiary · 28/12/2020 03:49

@Summerdayshaze

If she’s always felt like she’s Spanish, then who are we to say she isn’t? What harm is she doing?
I've always identified as a cat. Meow.
Ozgirl75 · 28/12/2020 03:59

It’s quite Hilarias.

Pinkywoo · 28/12/2020 04:06

@MichelleScarn

she will never be Spanish actual violence here. How can you say that! If she feels she is Spanish and lives a Spanish life she is Spanish
Really? ACTUAL violence? You obviously don't know the meaning of the words.
Yoshinori · 28/12/2020 04:08

Wow batshit

MichelleScarn, what actually is a Spanish life? Being born and living in Spain would surely lead to a Spanish life? Living the culture. She was born in Boston to parents with bog standard Anglo names who spent a couple of years in Marbella at one time. This, in my personal opinion, does not make her Spanish any more than needing an after lunch nap. Sorry if I sound a little tetchy- just growing a bit impatient with this you are who you identify as stuff.

DerbyshireMama · 28/12/2020 04:16

This thread is trippy AF.

GCAcademic · 28/12/2020 04:18

If she says she is Spanish, she is Spanish. No debate.

This is the new civil rights movement, and everyone should be entitled to the passport which reflects their authentic self. Anything less is literal Nazism.

HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 28/12/2020 04:18

@Poppyolive90

Maybe she identifies as Spanish Hmm
🤣🤣🤣 Christ what is happening.

So she's not Spanish?
