To not think I should have to thank them

I went on a walk to the supermarket earlier and came Across a group of people talking on a pavement. They were outside a house clearly talking to the person who lived in the house. They moved as I approached them and then the woman shouted thank you at me.
I’m not a rude person but I don’t think you should have to thank someone when they are on a pavement.

You’re rude OP!

You’re also one of those people Who post on AIBU asking if you’re unreasonable and the vast vast majority say yes you are, then you stamp your feet and say no I’m not! Why post?!!

This is like the zebra crossing argument. Cars are obliged to stop but it's still polite to give a nod, unless loads of people are crossing.

I thought about that too. I always wave to the driver (so does my 3 year old now). Drivers are supposed to stop but isn't it nice to acknowledge people? What is to be gained from being so arsey?

Why is it wrong to stand and chat on the pavement? If you bumped in to someone are you meant to move on to the road? Find a park? Not talk?
No you stand and chat and if someone comes along you move to let them pass.

Naturally they say thank you because you have noticed they are coming and move out of their way.

Anything else is rude.

I’m with the op ,
I think it’s more rude to stand and block a Pavement so people can’t get past without having to ask you to move.

But the OP didn’t have to ask them to move. They were polite and moved out of her way.

So yes, she was rude not to say thank you.
Does the OP really think it’s not on to stand on the pavement and have a conversation? Especially in these difficult times? She needs to get a grip.

@Tellmelies65 but at times such as now, where on earth else are they going to stop and talk? Can't exactly go into the house or garden can they? Or should they stand in the road so they don't inconvenience you?
You were extremely rude as they even moved without you needing to say excuse me, so they were polite and ensures they weren't in your way. I had a chat with a neighbour on the path the other day and she said it did her the world of good actually chatting to somebody in person. I suggest next time you take your head from your backside and just say thank you as it takes seconds.
