Everything’s gone to pot this year and I’ve been getting up, dressed and brushing my teeth, end of.

I’ve no longer any idea of what’s normal!

What’s your morning and evening routine and how long does it take?

Bonus points for sharing what time you get up and go to bed. I’m having to start from scratch here!

Practically zero - get up earlier than the rest of the house so I can have coffee in peace. Teeth and skin are the only grooming things that are getting a look in- 5 mins max.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 26/12/2020 09:12

Up, dressed, downstairs, 10 mins max. Includes a pee, hair, teeth and face.

Evening: shower, teeth, face. About 5 mins.

Shinylikeglass · 26/12/2020 09:13

I brush teeth, shower, moisturise, dress, dry hair and do makeup in between 15 & 20 mins.

I do this everyday as soon as I get up, regardless of whether in going anywhere. I don't spend much time on it but I feel really scummy if I don't do it at all. I like the idea of a PJ day but the reality is it makes me feel rubbish.

At night I wash my face and brush my teeth.

Get up 6:45, go to bed 10:30.ish

Marasme · 26/12/2020 09:17

i get up between 8 and 9am, get dressed + teeth, (so 5min, 15min if i have a shower). I roll down the stairs and put my headset on for another 9h zoom day. No makeup, hair in ponytail, basic top and leggings.

At end of day, I then crawl 2 meters to the kitchen to deal with food and kids and usually do a bit more house work or work work, before heading to bed at 11pm. Teeth, no makeup to remove and no routine makes this a 5min rota. I don t even wear my contacts anymore, just glasses.

I then proceed to try to silence the anxiety telling me crazy stories in my head, via the medium of Netflix in bed, til anything from 12 to 2am.

the harder the work day, the less likely i ll sleep.

DailyMailHater · 26/12/2020 09:22

Morning up at 6, shower (keep face scrub in shower so do that on there). moisturise body and face, breakfast, clean teeth, dry hair (if washed normally every other day), minimal make up (tinted moisturiser, mascara and lip gloss), dressed and done leave house at 8 (that time includes making bed, making breakfast and washing up dishes we used and sorting out DS (10) to ensure he is up/eaten/ready for school)
Evening, remove make up, wash face and moisturise face, pjs on bed about 10 then read for a while before going to sleep.
Once a week I will use a face mask (one of the sheet ones - just feels like a nice treat for me and can pick them up fairly cheaply)

BooFuckingHoo2 · 26/12/2020 09:25

Spend £300 Blush up at 7am, bed at between 10 and 11.

jillypill · 26/12/2020 09:27

Generally out of bed between 7.30-8.00 (later on weekends).
Wash, splash face, teeth, moisturiser. I don't wear much makeup & if I do it's mascara, blusher. This was true pre Covid. Dressed - no effort these days.

Evening - maybe a shower, cleanse, tone, moisturise, teeth. Bed by 12.

SmileyClare · 26/12/2020 09:29

Get up, wash my hair, blow dry it, straighten it (1 hour) get dressed (15 mins) make up (15 mins) so around an hour and a half! Blush

On a work day , I get up about 6 to get that done and out the house.

Evening, always a bath, shave my legs, moisturiser all over. (half an hour)

Twice a week, re do nails and toe nails, Every 4 weeks dye my roots at home.

I'm embarrassingly high maintenance, although my children are teens now so need less supervision!

RosesAndHellebores · 26/12/2020 09:32

WFH routine:
Up at 6.30 quick shower and dress (10 mins)
Downstairs for mug of tea and MNet to read the headlines.
7.30: use curling brush on hair (5 mins), make-up (5 mins). Start work at 7.45.

Bedtime: No 7, 3 in 1 wipe, rinse with warm water, apply moisturiser.

Need to pay more attention to hands.

Usually in bed by 11pm.

Ardnassa · 26/12/2020 09:34

Up at 6am. 10 mins skin, teeth and perfume. 2 mins mascara, eyebrow brush and some By Terry hyaluronic powder. 45 min daily walk which gives me a short-lived rosy glow! Usually supplemented with another walk at lunch, plus another bit of By Terry powder.

Work until about 7/8pm. Then pilates, book, bed. Out like a light by 10pm.

Ardnassa · 26/12/2020 09:35

I forgot my evening bath! Scrub with loofah then body oil, cuticle oil, foot and hand cream.

TangledLights · 26/12/2020 09:35

I try to take care of myself but in a way that doesn’t cause more stress and work!

On work days, or days I am going out socially (not often this year!) I blow dry my hair and put on a modicum of make up.

For home working or casual weekend days, I just shower/clean teeth, brush my hair and go.

I do have a decent skincare routine which helps me feel better, though. I use various potions and lotions at night. I also fake tan once a week as it makes me feel a bit brighter, and I wear perfume every single day no matter what I’m wearing or doing. It’s more about self care than anything else.

user1493413286 · 26/12/2020 09:37

Every morning I shower, try to shave if kids aren’t playing up, wash my hair, dry it, do teeth and put foundation on and eye make up, if I’m seeing anyone beyond the kids and nursery run. I do that with two kids interrupting me so I think it’s about 30 minutes with kids and probably 15-20 without.
At bedtime I use a face wipe and brush my teeth but I’m trying to start a routine of face wash and moisturiser.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/12/2020 09:39

Just to add WFH has meant being on zoom every work day. I found wfh and the psychology around it quite hard so determined to get ready for work as always from day 1 and have. In March and through the summer I had a walk round the block before starting work and it served as a routine to replace commute. It's less appealing now the mornings are cold and dark.

Also bought myself a pair of leather horse clips because psychologically I cannot work wearing slippers!

RosesAndHellebores · 26/12/2020 09:40

House clogs, not horse clips.

Moo678 · 26/12/2020 09:47

Get up between 6:30 and 7 depending on toddler. At some point squeeze in a 5-10 minute shower. Wash hair every 2nd day. Brush teeth. Moisturise face. So 10-15 mins of personal prep - closer to 10. My hair dries on the cycle to work and I brush it and stick it in a pony tail when I arrive. At night I moisturise and brush teeth again. Maybe twice a week I have a bath and do my deforestation then. I have 3 kids and a busy job so only really time for basic cleanliness!

SilenceIsNoLongerSuspicious · 26/12/2020 09:48

Morning is about 10 minutes - teeth, shower, moisturise face and hands if they feel tight, run brush through (short) hair. 15 minutes if it’s a day I wash my hair (every 3/4 days, or after exercise).

Evening is just teeth.

Make up, nail polish, contact lenses etc are all things I’ve tried but decided against.

QueenofLouisiana · 26/12/2020 09:49

Morning: shower, face wash with African black soap and dual sided facial cloth. Vitamin c serum, moisturiser (factor 15 in winter). Brush and put up hair.
Make up: foundation, powder, eyeshadow, mascara. Brush teeth. Lipstick (unless I’m wearing a face mask) and setting spray. Perfume- always.

Evening: shower as soon as I get in from work.
Remove make up (same cleansing as morning). In bed, apply retinol and night cream. Eight hour cream (well, Aldi’s dupe!) on elbows, hands and lips.

Weekly hair wash and dry (an hour each time), much less frequent now I use a solid shampoo than when I used bottled stuff. Twice weekly shave legs etc.

In the morning, I’m up at 6.45 and out of the house (with school work etc)to take DS to school at 8. Currently, I’m the last class in on a staggered start do get a later start to my morning.

PontiacBandit · 26/12/2020 09:55

Shower every morning with soap, I use exfoliating sponges, I have one for face and body. Every 3 days I wash hair and will quickly run a razor over once a week. Might put a spot of makeup on if feel like it.15 mins max

Evenings, oil cleanse and hot cloth cleanse and moisterise.

Once a week I do full on pamper spa session. Bath with oil, Hair deep condition. Face cleanse / mask/ steam and tone. Derma needle/ serum and ice roller. Body oil/ manicure and pedicure. I look forward to it every week. It takes about an hour.

DfEisashambles · 26/12/2020 09:59

25 mins from shower to dressed on a normal day. Weekends I do nails, facials and spend longer pampering myself!

notacooldad · 26/12/2020 09:59

If I'm on an early start at work it is minimal effort! Shower, clean teeth, brush hair. I sometimes leave make up until I'm at work. It is usually a tinted moisturizer or a glowly primer, a bit of mascara and lipstick.
If I'm going in a bit later I might spend more time on my make up and hair.

As I've got older I'm enjoying learning new techniques!
If I'm working from home it's the same as going into work early!
Before bed I spend more time on myself. I put a deep moisturizer on my feet, I cleanse sometimes have a face mask and hair treatment, check eyebrows and face for any hair stragglers.

SantaMonicaPier · 26/12/2020 10:03

I have a long bath each evening - usually an hour, and I let my hair dry on its own before bed. Because of that in the mornings I can be up and dressed and ready in 10 mins unless I can be bothered to straighten my hair.

ChipsWithThat · 26/12/2020 10:04

Wake up about 6. Couple of coffee in bed.
Shower, wash hair, shave legs/underarms.
Blow dry hair.
Eye cream, moisturiser, primer.
Foundation, eyebrows, lips, eyes, powder, blush, setting spray.
Straighten hair.
Get dressed. Work from home.

upsidedownwavylegs · 26/12/2020 10:04

The absolute quickest I could get minimally ready to leave the house in would be 20 minutes - that would be if my hair was already clean and would mean no time for makeup. On a work day, or for a preplanned social occasion I wanted to look nice for, I would give myself an hour and a half for a day I wasn’t washing my hair and two hours if I was. I blow dry and straighten my long, thick, curly hair every two days, restyle it on in between days, and have a fairly involved pre- and post-shower skincare routine.
