Everything’s gone to pot this year and I’ve been getting up, dressed and brushing my teeth, end of.

I’ve no longer any idea of what’s normal!

What’s your morning and evening routine and how long does it take?

Bonus points for sharing what time you get up and go to bed. I’m having to start from scratch here!

Work day

Up at 6. Wash face, brush teeth, make up and brush hair. Get dressed and out by 6.25.

Evening, shower or bath, washing hair every other day. Shave legs when needed. Moisturiser and bed by 10 to read. If I've washed my hair, I blow dry and straighten it before bed.

Home with kids:
Jump in the shower if I've got time and usually dress in leggings and hoody. Rarely wear make up and hair in bun.

Evening is the same as work night.

I have never had a consistent morning routine until a few months ago. I was pretty depressed this summer and personal care started going out the window, I've made gradual changes to daily habits which have really helped my mood.

My morning routine for workdays now is to wake up at about 6am, splash my face with water (wakes me up, pee, drink a glass of water and take multivitamin. Then use my exercise bike for 20/30 minutes (whilst drinking more water) and do a 10 minute yoga tutorial on YouTube afterwards. Then a 4 minute shower, wash my face while in shower (just with water, I used to use various face washes in the morning, but they all make my already oily skin even oiler). I moisture my body straight after turning the water off with "wet skin moisture miracle" by sanctuary, dry off, put my dressing gown on, brush teeth, apply deodorant and SPF on face. Total time about 10 minutes. Then I have breakfast and usually put some make up on after; fill in brows, translucent face powder, blusher, mascara, lip balm. Adds another 5 minutes. Then another couple of minutes to get dressed, put hair into bun, spritz a bit of perfume on, and out the door.

I have another quick shower as soon as I get in from work, then use garnier micellar water to take my make up off, tone and moisturise, takes about 10 minutes. Brush my teeth just before bed.

I go to bed at about 10.30pm, I need at least 7 hours sleep.

Aside from the daily stuff I try to do the following DIY grooming:
Hair washed every 3 days, left to dry naturally or blasted with hair dryer for 10 minutes.
Manciure every week (15 minutes).
Pedicure every 2 weeks (15 minutes).
Dermaplane every 4 weeks (10 minutes).
Chemical peel by the Ordinary every week (leave it on for 8 minutes).
Deep condition my hair every week (leave a hair mask on for an hour or so).
Shave and re-lumea my legs, armpits and bikini line every 4 weeks. (30 minutes).
Hair cut every 10 weeks at the hairdressers.

I have a habit tracker app with most of the above saved in it so I remember when to do it, usually do it in the evening while watching Netflix.

@AlrightTreacle would you recommend the lumea? If so what model do you use?

@doadeer thanks so much! Is there any one product that you would recommend that’s made a difference to your skin?

doadeer · 26/12/2020 18:55

@2021hopes

I'm never sure if anyone can recommend miracle products as skin varies so much between people. I would say having a consistent routine of a rich cleanser, serum and moisturise plus Spf and vit c in morning is the key.

I also use Retinol.

I think you can do cheaper Cleanser and moisturiser aswell as Spf but need to spend more on serum and vit c

AlrightTreacle · 26/12/2020 19:08

@2021hopes

Yes 100% I'd recommend the lumea, I bought it over 3 years ago, so not sure if the same model is still available. Think I paid about £350 for it, which is a lot of money for me, it's probably the most expensive thing I've bought apart from my car. But I justified it by saying that it was the same cost as about 12 bikini waxes and so eventually it would pay for itself. Which it has, and it's also a lot more convenient and less painful!

Philips also do a 100 day guarantee, so you can return it for a ful refund if it doesn't work for you. My friend has pale skin and dark hair like me, but it didn't do anything for her so she returned it and got a refund.

@RosesAndHellebores

House clogs, not horse clips.

Ha ha. I was about to google horse clips thinking I'd discovered some new thing

PoppinTheCorn · 27/12/2020 06:14

Around 10 minutes.
Into shower, wash hair & body, brush teeth, dry and dress.

Seafog · 27/12/2020 06:18

20 minutes ,I shower, dress, braid my hair, brush, floss and mouthwash

MsSquiz · 27/12/2020 06:47

Up at 6am, shower (wash hair, shave, cleanse), brush teeth, moisturise, dry hair, make up (foundation, concealer, powder, brows, lip balm & mascara), get dresses all takes 1 hour

Bedtime: cleanse, brush teeth, tone, acid serum, moisturise, pjs on. All takes 30 mins

Kiwiinparis · 27/12/2020 06:53

Up at 6am with our puppy. Shower, cleanse face, put on face oil, moisturiser and sunscreen. Straighten hair, makeup takes about 10-15mins. Get changed, head to work. At night I shower again, wash my hair every second day, cleanse, put on face oil, moisturise and put retinol on. In bed by 10pm. Will also do my nails x2 a week, and usually an overnight hair mask once a week. When my country was in lockdown i didn’t bother with the hair or makeup :)

Parbor · 27/12/2020 07:16

@Strokethefurrywall

Up at 5am to work out, home by 6.30am. Shower, teeth, hair, dressed, make up take about 20 mins and I'm in the car by 7.15am to drop kids to school.

I don't faff around with anything remotely personal grooming-esque. I'd like to be someone who does their nails and wears lots of different facial products but it turns out I just don't care enough to keep it up.

The best I can manage is some juvederm and regular retinol use.

I’d say using fillers and retinol is more personal grooming-esque than cleansing and moisturising Grin
Parbor · 27/12/2020 07:29

Morning clean teeth, wash body, damp flannel on face, deodorant, moisturiser, sunscreen, primer, Foundation, blusher, mascara. Get dressed. Brush hair, either tie up or straighten. Not sure how long it takes exactly because I’m doing other things at the same time like making beds and cleaning bathrooms but I reckon if I did it all in one go it would be about 15- 20 minutes?

Evening have a shower, wash hair and shave legs every other day, armpits every day. Cleanse face (double cleanse with oil then milk if I remember) use toner, eye cream, moisturiser. I’ve bought other products like vitamin c, retinol etc but have not managed to make them part of my routine yet. Moisturise body. 20-30 minutes. I have to do a heated eye mask every night for ten minutes as I have blocked glands but I do that in bed right before I go to sleep so it doesn’t add any time.

@Kiwiinparis

What retinol brands do you use? Can you get them without prescription?

doadeer · 27/12/2020 10:09

@2021hopes
I use Medik8 Crystal 3 but I'm 30 so don't need a super strength at the moment. I read lots of good things about dermiatica (sp?) you can get a stronger version there for a small subscription

Chimeraforce · 27/12/2020 10:29

Teeth. Brush and floss less than 5 mins
Non work day = contact lenses 5 mins
Work day =glasses zero time
Yank a brush through my hair, clip or band it off my face 5 mins
Moisturiser 2 mins
I rarely wash my hair and don't use conditioner. If pits n bits are clean I'm fine.
Always wear perfume.
Up at 8, wfh from 0900.
When I worked at the office, up at 7.15 cycled to work at 08.15.

Kiwiinparis · 27/12/2020 10:41

@2021hopes I use Murad for all of my skincare - it’s pricey but so worth it! The retinol night cream is the best

nevernotstruggling · 27/12/2020 10:57

Get up 7.30. After the kids are ready I get 15 minutes to do my make up. Every day not just a work day. Powder and eyebrows and mascara as a minimum.
Evenings I wash and straighten my hair before I go to bed it will stay that way. I got the bed about 11.30. My habits didn't change in lockdown.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 27/12/2020 13:15

Mine varies depending on what I'm planning to do in the day. I'm in the process of doing up our house almost single-handedly so on the days where I know I'm going to be getting dirty and sweaty I just brush my teeth when I get up then shower and wash my hair when I finish which takes about 15 minutes. On a day when I'm working or doing housework I'll sometimes shower in the morning which takes about 5 minutes and sometimes don't bother so just brush my teeth and get dressed.
In the evening I brush my teeth, get undressed and get into bed. I get up at about 7:30 on a weekday and 9am on a weekend and go to bed between 9:30 and 10:30.

Strokethefurrywall · 27/12/2020 14:05

Ah but @Parbor the juvederm and retinol is so I don't have to faff with anything else 🤣

@2021hopes I'm not in UK and retinol is prescribed by dermatologist. Most things you can buy over the counter here that you can't get in UK but not retinol unfortunately.

speakout · 27/12/2020 14:09

Up at 6 most mornings.
Coffee, pee, feed cats, back to bed for half an hour.
Shower, do hair and make up.
Hit the yoga mat.
Breakfast- fruit and granola.
I work from home, generally start at 8.30.
