To sleep in a 12 degree C bedroom?

My ex used to have the bedroom radiator on full whack; I'd overheat and have nightmares.

Dumped him, everything is better, but I'm now wondering if my cold-loving sleeping habits are eccentric. I do have a big pile of blankets and flannel PJs. I checked my security system (which has a temperature sensor) and realised it's 12 degrees in there. AI BU?

If you're happy with it, fine, but although I hate a warm bedroom that sounds a bit on the chilly side. I believe sleeping too cold isn't necessarily healthy, one of the reasons for increased respiratory problems in winter.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/12/2020 09:12

Sleep where you like. We had ice on the inside of the windows when I was little so not much warmer than that.

Rosehip10 · 25/12/2020 09:14

Are you from a more middle class backgroud than your ex?

magicstar1 · 25/12/2020 09:14

I sleep with the window open all year around. It’s nice and cold, but snuggly under the blankets. Suits me perfectly.

JamesAnderson · 25/12/2020 09:15

Not at all.

I have the heating on at 17 for an hour to warm it up a bit but it goes off a good couple of hours before I go up.

The window is always open. Although only on the little, not quite closed catch, in the winter because DH would complain if it was open properly.

redcandlelight · 25/12/2020 09:16

if you are warm under your blankets and you are able to sleep well that's fine imo.

CharityEscapeGoat · 25/12/2020 09:16

In our old house, we never had the bedroom radiator on, & had the window slightly open all year. It was 14 degrees in there in winter. Thick duvet, & I wore full pyjamas (DH never does as he's much warmer). We slept much better than in our current house, where the thermostat is in our bedroom (!) & we can't seem to turn the radiator off without turning off the heating upstairs completely.

NannyR · 25/12/2020 09:16

I don't have my heating on in my bedroom and it can be 12 degrees in there. I sleep much better at a colder temperature.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 25/12/2020 09:17

My heating ki ks in when it goes below 12 degrees so not unreasonable at all

PleasantVille · 25/12/2020 09:17

If there's only you sleeping in the bedroom yo can do absolutely whatever you like, no need to check with the internet Grin

cheezy · 25/12/2020 09:18

I never have the heating on in my room and have the windows open all year round. I love it! But concerned that it could be bad for me

MrsMarrio · 25/12/2020 09:18

I like the bedroom to be cold but it never goes lower than 15, yet anyway. I'd have a meltdown it DH had the heating on. Although 12 does sound chilly, I often get a stiff neck if it's too cold

mogtheexcellent · 25/12/2020 09:19

No central heating on and window open here.

Love a snuggle under a warm duvet.Smile

Londonnight · 25/12/2020 09:21

I have no heating on upstairs at all. I can't cope with a warm bedroom. My bedroom [ single, so sleep alone ] has sometimes got down to 8c. I sleep with my window open as I really hate being too hot in bed. I sleep naked with only a light duvet.

BubblyBarbara · 25/12/2020 09:21

Sleeping in a cold room is good for you. They even have their babies sleep outside in the snow in Finland.

TirisfalPumpkin · 25/12/2020 09:23

Are you from a more middle class backgroud than your ex?

Nope, he was the posh one.

I would have the window open too if I could sleep through all the traffic noise. So many ambulances at the moment :/

Glad I'm not entirely odd, thank you for validating me. I always had the impression that cooler sleeping was healthier, but I may have made that up to justify my choices.

It's liberating being able to do exactly what you want!

I live in an area were people can't afford to use their central heating.

I grew up in the 70's, only the front room and kitchen was warm.

So no, what you're doing isn't eccentric. It's life for many, by choice and by necessity.

Logantrical · 25/12/2020 09:24

I like to sleep in a cold bedroom with a warm duvet. 12C is perfect for me. I have the window cracked open all year round.

Panticus · 25/12/2020 09:25

I suppose it just depends on whether you are a hot or cold sleeper - 12 degrees sounds lovely to me, and we are in Australia. Last night our bedroom was 16 degrees and it was too hot for me - I spent most of the night under a cotton waffle blanket. If it gets close to 20 degrees I would generally put the fan or cooler on.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2020 09:28

We have no heating on after about 7pm, plus the window open every night of the year. It was 14 degrees in our bedroom this morning.

alltheadrenalin · 25/12/2020 09:30

^^ I'm intrigued, what's class got to do with sleeping preferences. I like to get warm in a cool room, if that makes any sense 😆 don't like heating on

Skyliner001 · 25/12/2020 09:30

Ours is about 10c love it

Ginfordinner · 25/12/2020 09:31

We don't have the heating on at night? Who does this?

Lulu1919 · 25/12/2020 09:34

My bedroom radiator rarely goes on....maybe the odd hour once a week but never when I'm in it ....my husband comes in and shivers ha ha
I also have a summer duvet ...with the addition of a blanket if it's REALLY cold !!!

Chloemol · 25/12/2020 09:34

Radiator off, window open all year round. I hate a warm bedroom
