To sleep in a 12 degree C bedroom?

My ex used to have the bedroom radiator on full whack; I'd overheat and have nightmares.

Dumped him, everything is better, but I'm now wondering if my cold-loving sleeping habits are eccentric. I do have a big pile of blankets and flannel PJs. I checked my security system (which has a temperature sensor) and realised it's 12 degrees in there. AI BU?

I much prefer sleeping in a cool/ cold room under a warm duvet. Probably around 16 degrees. It’s baking hot where we live in the summer and I have the aircon on the coldest setting! I can’t bear being sweaty in bed. I also love to sleep in PJ’s and dressing gown in the winter but I will have the window open. We don’t have central heating. We may purge the air con on hot for a couple of hours if it gets below 16 but that’s rare!

At our old house 8/9 degrees was the coldest it got in the bedroom, that was a bit chilly for my nose! 12 is lovely though, if the window is shut I get a blocked nose, so windows open all the way here too.
I do have an electric blanket and teddy bear fleece bedding though.

I much prefer a cool room. I can’t sleep when I’m too hot and would never have the radiator on in the night. I’d melt. Never even in the midst of winter. I’d simply get a thicker tog duvet.

Once your under the duvet you warm up so unless you’re sleeping with a sheet and no more, you’ll be absolutely fine

With respect we live in Britain so we all share similar ‘coldness’. I’ve lived in different from new builds to houses over 100 years old and again, I’ve always preferred it cooler as the duvet warns you up.

Window open, electric blanket to pre-warm bed and warm duvet here. If I sleep in a warm room I'm very restless and wake up with a bad headache.

Mind you when I was a child the frost was on the inside of the windows.

I can't stand having the heating on in my bedroom during the night. It's cold when I get up but to me that's preferably to being warm during the night. I have a hot water bottle and that's enough for me.

Hazelmazel · 27/12/2020 10:29

I've always liked a cold bedroom and can't bear having warm feet at night so have always stuck my feet out from under the duvet (whereas ALWAYS have socks and slippers on during the day). But going through perimenopause has meant I can't bear anything at all on at night, even on the coldest nights. I sleep naked, with a summer weight duvet and even that gets thrown off during the night and I lie there sweating. Meno is shit.
My poor dh has pyjamas, socks and blankets piled on the duvet to keep warm.

Well if you're single you can sleep however you wish but I'd be refusing invitations for a sleepover 😆. I like a warm room, plus a winter duvet, plus all the pyjamas and bed socks. How do you get up for the toilet or for a morning shower in that temperature? I'm miserable if the room temp is below 20 but I prefer it warmer than that.

I never have heating on through the night- I grew up in a home without central heating, I find a warm bedroom stuffy.
Like the OP I like warm cosy PJs and good bedding.

It's a real pleasure being toasty warm in bed in a cold room.
