It's out first year having Christmas in our own house. First Xmas married. First time cooking a turkey and generally organising Christmas Day. Got my family coming over as per restrictions...
My DH decided to spend Christmas Eve getting so drunk that he is currently throwing up really horrifically in the downstairs bathroom with alcohol poisoning. (He can't take his alcohol and ends up ill for days afterwards).

I'm so cross - I've spent ages preparing, teaching myself how to cook it all and was looking forward to enjoying the food etc...he will be throwing up all day and not be able to eat anything or help me.

AIBU?

What a waster

Eckhart · 25/12/2020 17:09

He's done this quite a few times before - usually 8 hours throwing up, 24 hours lying on the bathroom floor, another 12 in bed in order to recover

Followed by

He's not an alcoholic

What is an 'alcoholic'? There are multiple definitions, but whatever you call it, he has an alcohol problem. Whether he's doing it at home or out isn't really the issue, and if not drinking at home minimises it, that's good, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have the problem anymore.

It sounds like when he starts he can't stop. You sound a little bit in denial by needing to say he's not an alcoholic. You probably both need to face up to the problem.

He's obviously got a massive problem with alcohol. Alcoholic or not.
He knows he gets like this , so why does he do it ?
My EXH was like this, ruined many an occasion. Note the EX.

"He's done this quite a few times before - usually 8 hours throwing up, 24 hours lying on the bathroom floor, another 12 in bed in order to recover."

So knowing that would be the likely outcome-why do it?

What a fool!

AiryFairyMum · 26/12/2020 13:13

Is he still complaining today?

Because the object of the exercise is to ruin the next day for the other people in his life .....that's why he does it

Pissing off everyone else is the pay off and he finds it so gratifying that he's willing to suffer in order to achieve this pay off

Highly doubt it

What a strange perspective

exact reason I broke up with my now ex, because of him deciding to get drunk and high with his loser friends, I was alone on xmas day.
