How have your Christmas food deliveries worked out?

Ocado have delivered me no gammon and a chicken that goes off on Christmas Eve so now I need to brave the shops and keep my fingers crossed.

How has everyone else faired?

Can't believe a couple of the posts on here. I definitely think it's our "duty" to shop online during a pandemic, rather than fill the shops. Bizarre to think otherwise.

My Ocado order is coming this morning. Only missing item was an individual pizza (like another person on here) and only sub was one type of pigs in blankets for another (both M and S), so very happy.

Ocado has been excellent the last couple of months. Rarely get a substitute and can't remember the last time I had a missing item. Having said that, I've spent a bloody fortune at Ocado this month.

Brunt0n · 23/12/2020 08:37

Chicken that goes off on the 24th - easily got a turkey crown in M&S yesterday so that’s fine. Will have the chicken joint tonight.

No pigs in blankets! Potential disaster that! Got some today though :)

No oatcakes - can live without them

Actual parsnips instead of my nice easy cook parsnips. Solved too!

Tier 4, Ocado, ordered way back in October for this slot 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 23/12/2020 08:40

Ours was fine too. One thing out of stock.

Any bits I really wanted I bought before December so only really fresh veg for the meal I needed and like all veg so would have been happy with any substitutes.

LeSangeEstDansLarbre · 23/12/2020 08:42

Just had my notification from Morrison’s and there are 2 minor subs, and one thing missing, non essential. Very happy.

RainbowCake · 23/12/2020 08:43

Morrisons
Mr Kipling mince pies for Morrison's own.
They did however chuck salad stuff, lemons and a quiche out when I was finalising. Nothing major, I'll gladly eat a prawn cocktail without lettuceGrin

Though the amount of food I have now is crackers as we've gone from hosting 9 to 7 to 6 to 4 but couldn't predict that so hey ho might crack the snacks and bits open from tonight.

Whatamesssss · 23/12/2020 08:43

Woken by swine cat at 5.30am and then got the is my shopping going to be delivered today anxiety.

Checked email from Waitrose, only 4 subs but all very good (but no Yum Yums Sad ) got turkey and smoked gammon too.

Just have to hope the delivery goes okay.

Twobrews · 23/12/2020 08:45

Morrison’s deliveries are picked at the warehouse...
Unfortunately not all Morrison's deliveries come from the warehouse anymore, it depends where you live.

manateeandcake · 23/12/2020 08:47

Ocado coming today -- they've notified me that the Christmas crackers are missing, which I'm really annoyed about. I have two young DCs who didn't get crackers with their school Christmas lunch because of COVID and I want things to feel as festive as possible for them. Will have to brave local Tesco/Co-op and see what's left there.

Tinselerama21 · 23/12/2020 08:49

Really @knittingaddict Ocado have been terrible for us, totally accepted earlier on in Pandemic but then friend whose senior exec at Asda said supply chains are generally fine (late summer) so couldn’t understand why we were having problems.

It’s dropped off a cliff since the M&S tie up, they keep substituting prepared meals for 2 for M&S count on us meals for one 😂. Friday treat of a luxury Charlie Bingham fish pie for 2 for a Count on Us Cod Mornay for 1?!?

They’ve have assured me it’s still all automated - so can only assume even the robots are pandemic weary!!

Couldn’t get a a slot with anyone else though so we’ll see.

Aprilx · 23/12/2020 08:52

I couldn’t get any slot close to Christmas so my last delivery was the 18th and I ordered the non perishables, nothing was missing or substituted. I will collect my Turkey from the butchers later and I also have an order from Donald Russell arriving today. Fingers crossed.

KenAdams · 23/12/2020 08:54

@MellowYellow101

May be worth checking your turkeys if you can a bit earlier (maybe Xmas eve) as I remember they were selling gone off turkey last year. I remember Tesco was the main baddie of the bunch!
Yes that was it! The green turkeys! I knew something had happened last year.

Sainsbury's delivery on Monday - they brought everything, with no substitutions so I was very pleased.

ExclamationPerfume · 23/12/2020 09:00

Tesco click and collect was fine.

Just one substitution of bacon which was similar.

Ours was 8-10 at night. The freezer stuff wasn't very frozen.

Thesearmsofmine · 23/12/2020 09:03

Asda order is coming this morning. 8 substitutions, a couple are fine but the others are going back as they have subbed the cheese for a totally different type of cheese, and a couple of other bits they have sent me the basic smartprice version of what I ordered when I wanted nicer bits, I’ll pop to Sainsbury’s later and replace them. My veg was all there and I already have my turkey as I ordered it from the butchers months ago.

TiredMary · 23/12/2020 09:07

I always had great success with Ocado at Christmas, several years in a row, but last year they were a disaster. Everything out of date by the 24th - and my order only arrived on the 23rd! Veg looked manky. Substitutes were weird choices. I ended up running around the shops last minute anyway, so what was the point?

Did a supermarket shop yesterday in Tesco at 8am and got everything in one fairly painless swoop.

Bythepath · 23/12/2020 09:08

My Tesco delivery last night was great. A few subs for very similar items and a short date chicken which was for the freezer anyway. Throughout the pandemic Tesco have been brilliant where I live. Very few things unavailable, sensible subs and always been able to get a slot. I haven't been in a supermarket since March.

Squiffy01 · 23/12/2020 09:15

Our Ocado order came last night, early as well!
All there and no subs I was very happy, was a bit worried with all the trouble with the lorries.

Ocado have been great for ages now I can’t remember the last time I had a missing item or sub a few months at least. I know now I say that next week shop will be full of them Grin

BreastedBaubleyToTheSleighs · 23/12/2020 09:21

Our veggie Christmas main (from the order in advance festive food section) expires on the 24th, and they replaced vegetarian stuffing with pork and apple stuffing that expires on the 23rd Hmm

Otherwise all good though.

Why do they do this?! A Christmas main out of date before the 25th? So unfair.
Peanutbutterblood · 23/12/2020 09:42

My tesco order came, phew, no subs or short dates. My avocado is mushy but I'm not going to complain or go to a shop to get another, so relieved. Thank you tesco!

LunaLoveFood · 23/12/2020 09:42

Just had our delivery from asda and the only thing not in stock was marshmallows.
Had 13 subs including turkey crown and ham but they were substituted for whole turkey and larger ham so very happy. All other subs were really sensible too (just a different brand or different size with more or less added to the order to make it the same. )

Undies1990 · 23/12/2020 09:50

Tesco delivery here last night - everything was delivered perfectly except Green Tea bags which I am sure we can live without!

Well done Tesco and thank you 🎄

FestiveFannyGallops · 23/12/2020 09:54

Waitrose came this morning before I was fully awake and there was no frozen broccoli, no sprouts, and a couple of veggie buffet items we're missing that were my big treat but my waistline will be grateful so I'm not bothered. The sprouts were for my mum as was one bag of the frozen broccoli. They didn't have the quorn chicken burgers either but did sub them along with slight variations in loaves of bread. Otherwise all good and the driver was a you g lad wearing a Christmassy mask and a Santa hat wishing me merry Christmas like he was on stage. I love Waitrose! Shopping has cost me a fortune this year but they were the only supermarket that gave me priority back in March so I've stuck with them. Plus delivery is free and I never have trouble getting a slot. Thank you Waitrose!

Onedropbeat · 23/12/2020 09:56

We love Waitrose too.
Mine is coming later.
Must write a card to give to the driver when it arrives. Not too sure if I should put anything in the card

Angel2702 · 23/12/2020 09:56

Had my Tesco delivery on Monday and evert was there, no subs either.
