Ocado have delivered me no gammon and a chicken that goes off on Christmas Eve so now I need to brave the shops and keep my fingers crossed.

How has everyone else faired?

I cancelled our Asda delivery and went myself at 7.30 am on Sat. Turkey being picked up from the butcher today.

Onedropbeat · 23/12/2020 07:46

My shop is coming this afternoon

Keeping everything crossed for nothing missing 🤞🏻

8 subs and 5 unavailable at Tesco this morning. I ordered a joint of meat for my elderly neighbour and they substituted a different one with sauce on it, which my neighbour has rejected. So him and his wife have no meat for Christmas dinner now. They’ve substituted a Quality Street tin for the same weight of Quality Street without the tin, but charged the same price. So I’ve had to reject them because I’m not paying the price for the tin if I’m not getting the tin! And nowhere in the world appears to have a fucking Christmas pudding available!

RoseDog · 23/12/2020 07:47

I am awaiting my Morrison's order this morning, I've always had tesco Xmas orders but have been using Morrison's for months now and they are usually ok, subs are sometimes ok... the only thing I am really relying on is veg, I have everything else!

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/12/2020 07:49

I could only get a slot on monday eve and that came with just one sub that was totally acceptable. Tier one, Tesco.

We never order our meat from them though, prefering to use butchers where possible, and I’ve been stocking up on other things for the last month to spread the cost. Dunno if that makes a difference.

helloxhristmas · 23/12/2020 07:51

Just got notification on mine - only thing missing is horseradish sauce. Pleasantly surprised! Sainsbury's.

Moonandstars25 · 23/12/2020 07:52

No gammon or broccoli, one sub of cheapest strawberries for more expensive ones (but charged the cheaper price). Not for Xmas but also no nappies.

MaverickDanger · 23/12/2020 07:52

6 subs this morning from ASDA, but that doesn’t cover my Christmas Day food.

Main one I’m annoyed about is subbing fresh crusty bread for a tiny loaf of Warburtons. The others I can live with. Will probably pop down to the bakery later instead.

Hathertonhariden · 23/12/2020 07:53

Delivery from Sainsburys last Friday as it was the closest slot to Xmas I could get. Only sub was the turkey. I had ordered the smallest possible turkey crown and they sent a 6kg turkey. Obviously trying to get rid if the big birds. Fortunately there was sufficient time to reject it and get a small crown from the local butcher (which I should have really done in the first place). Beautiful box of veg and separate box of lovely cheese delivered by the farm shop yesterday.

moleeye · 23/12/2020 07:54

Asda delivered this morning, 7 subs, all ok except they've substituted parsnip for swede! So I'll have to go out and grab that.

Meat being collected from butchers this afternoon.

I've been picking up stuff for a while so it's not the end of the world and I have to leave the house to collect the meat anyway.

Now off to do some fridge origami!!!

ceeveebee · 23/12/2020 07:56

Ocado coming at 8am and I have an email with the magic words “your order doesn’t have any substitutions, everything’s there” whoohoo!

Dementedswan · 23/12/2020 07:57

Morrisons are coming this morning. One sub... a bigger kitchen foil. Very impressed!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/12/2020 07:58

@DonkeyMcFluff if you're near a Home Bargains try them for Christmas pud. My local had hundreds in (Jane Asher ones)

Hathertonhariden · 23/12/2020 07:58

The clementines that arrived from sainsburys on Friday have already started going mouldy. Not great

cookiemonster5 · 23/12/2020 07:58

I had an asda delivery on Saturday and another for lunch time today. Saturday had 1 sub of cooked ham in place of honey roast ham which I'm sure we can live with for sandwiches.

Today's delivery I'm less hopeful for. I was adding stuff in yesterday and the first time I edited the order it said potatoes, melon and croissants are out of stock. I was able to add them in again later but I'm not hopeful that they will be delivered. I'm waiting for my receipt to be emailed over.

I have my meat order from the butcher to collect tomorrow morning so nothing will be missing there.

Demitri · 23/12/2020 07:58

My Asda shop delivered everything apart from the pigs in blankets. Luckily, we live right next to Sainsbury’s so I popped in at 6.15am and managed to grab some today. I’m picking up my M&S food order in a bit so hopefully that will all be there.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 23/12/2020 08:02

Mine was a bloody disaster. We have a delivery from Sainsbury's every week of the year as we don't drive. Usually comes on a Sunday morning. Booked a slot for the Christmas delivery yesterday afternoon. It didn't turn up. Rang customer services and they said "the driver couldn't stop on your street due to weekday parking restrictions".

I don't think these restrictions actually exist. But in any case, they wouldn't deliver. Our options were: cancel and "book a new slot" (hahahahaha as if) or take a taxi 3.5 miles across the city to collect the order ourselves, at our own expense. As compensation for the hassle and time wasted, they offered a £5 voucher Angry

I've been a regular customer for seven years! I'm fuming. A kind neighbour gave us a lift to collect it all in the end. Only lucky that we weren't self-isolating or we'd have been buggered.

EggysMom · 23/12/2020 08:06

I had a slot booked with Tesco for delivery today but I cancelled it a few days ago when I realised that I had pretty much already got everything I wanted - I hope somebody else benefitted from the slot opening up at short notice.

WanderingMilly · 23/12/2020 08:06

Deliveries? Mine are bloody marvellous.....I go to the supermarket myself. Can see what I'm buying, check dates (often take goods from the back of the shelf to secure the longest sell-by date), I've been out really early in the morning to avoid the manic queues and quite enjoy the outing despite the gloves and mask and sanitiser...

thismeansnothing · 23/12/2020 08:06

Glad to hear most have got what they wanted/needed.

I'm an online shop picker for Waitrose. We pick at night and I've just done three of the busiest most stressful night shifts ever. Having to sub things people have ordered and blatantly need for Xmas has given me the fear the past few days, but hopefully everyone's pleased with what they did get

wendz86 · 23/12/2020 08:13

Sainsburys delivered Monday-
Yule log replaced with a more expensive one (get voucher for difference so fine)
Big wraps swapped for mini wraps
Stuffing - different flavour delivered.
Couple of dates on party food Christmas eve but can live with that.
Nothing missing so not too bad.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 23/12/2020 08:15

Tesco delivered on Saturday, no sponge fingers for tiramisu. Slightly disgruntled until I remembered I had some in my baking stash.

I never leave my delivery to include vital meat at Christmas as I have a fear I’ll either be given a weird turkey substitute or I’ll end up with a lopsided bird with all drumstick & no breast. Like the 8kg one my husband bought when I was abroad with work just before Christmas one year.

8kg. I wanted 8lb. Turkey dark meat for days. Had to brace the oven door shut with my feet, back supported by the fridge (in my small galley kitchen), for hours that Christmas Eve. I swear the bloody thing came out cube shaped.

HerbErtlinger · 23/12/2020 08:22

Has a few subs from Asda, generally fine. No potatoes or sticky toffee pudding but picked up potatoes and a dessert from M&S.

Most bizarre sub... I ordered a pizza for tonight and got 2 packs of chicken burgers. They're the same shape I guess Grin

Bexily · 23/12/2020 08:22

We were supposed to go to MIL for Christmas Dinner, had a txt from school on Sat afternoon to say somebody in DS class had a positive test on the 16th so he's now isolating and I'm doing my first ever Christmas dinner. Luckily we had a delivery slot already, I only had 2 items unavailable (crackers and table cover).

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/12/2020 08:23

Main one I’m annoyed about is subbing fresh crusty bread for a tiny loaf of Warburtons.

This sounds like a result to me - who doesn't love fresh crusty bread?!
