Ocado have delivered me no gammon and a chicken that goes off on Christmas Eve so now I need to brave the shops and keep my fingers crossed.

How has everyone else faired?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 23/12/2020 07:06

Ocado today, nothing missing, very impressed!

Mindymomo · 23/12/2020 07:07

I got my Tesco delivery yesterday. I must have been good all year as the £5 gammon was subbed with a £17 finest gammon. Everything else came apart from sone frozen veg. Delivery was 40 minutes early, so DH and DS had to sort it as I was walking the dog. Result all round.

Gooseysgirl · 23/12/2020 07:10

Sainsbury’s yesterday... very happy, all items delivered except three - substitutions were very reasonable.

MRex · 23/12/2020 07:12

Ocado had a citrus theme going on with no lemon chocolate, no lemons and no M&S Lemon Chicken. Apart from that it was all there, we picked up the yule log, turkey and gammon separately along with a fresh lettuce/ tomato top-up. We had an early delivery because it only cost £1.99 so the veg are chopped up in the freezer to defrost tomorrow night, as are some of the snacks. So altogether a lot less painful than expected.

Pumpkinpied · 23/12/2020 07:12

All the pre prepared veg goes out of date tomorrow...cheers Tesco.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 23/12/2020 07:14

They will be fine Pumpkin! Things are always fine for 24-48 hours after and with veg I would happily go longer as long as they looked OK.

Metheven · 23/12/2020 07:17

@nanny2012nanny No, actually the pickers don't give you the items with the shortest shelf life. I am a picker and I try to give my customers the best dates I can. I shop for them as I would shop for myself, despite being timed and told off if you take too long doing a pick.

I get up at 3.00 to go to work at Christmas, try to do my job with rude customers moaning and barging you out of the way. customers who reach over you (what pandemic?). My work colleagues have had customers swear at them just for doing their job.

But you think we just give customers the shortest dates. Thanks for that, it is great to be appreciated.

burritofan · 23/12/2020 07:19

Sainsbury’s brought everything except lemons and POTATOES. Went in last night and, through the mayhem – it was like bloody Glastonbury – found plenty of both. Christmas saved! Took the opportunity to hunter-gather more tins of Roses, just in case of shortages.

Orangedaisy · 23/12/2020 07:19

Tesco yesterday evening, on time, all present. 2 subs, clementine juice instead of orange juice (I wonder if there is such thing as satsuma juice....?). And different but still fine sausage rolls. I can’t knock it, I’m thrilled with it. Been the same for a good few years now.

Motherofmonsters · 23/12/2020 07:19

Tesco yesterday, bread and Wensleydale substituted for better. The cheesecake was dated the 24th

Almostslimjim · 23/12/2020 07:22

Pre-prepped red cabbage was missing, Yule log upgraded to a better one and Christmas pud subbed for a bit and alcohol free one, but other than that, it was fine

QueenPaws · 23/12/2020 07:25

A few subs for later delivery today but all sensible ones

Tesco click and collect due later, wondering how good it'll be Confused. Not too worried as we're having 2 Christmas dinners anyone, Christmas Day with my parents and I know they've already got everything they need. So if our Boxing Day roast is missing stuff it won't be so annoying

Plussizejumpsuit · 23/12/2020 07:31

This is why I do it myself now. As for example if they don't have the olives I ordered I'll just chose my second favourite. But I can't exo8a stranger to know that.

I went to sainsbury's yesterday evening and it was fine. Well stocked and busy but could still keep away from people most of the time.

Tinselerama21 · 23/12/2020 07:34

@nanny2012nanny why if you’ve been shopping online for 10 years?

Also Waitrose you can request longest shelf life possible.

plannit · 23/12/2020 07:36

Sainsbury's coming tonight, just had the email, 4 subs, all just a different brand. Very relieved!

Notemyname · 23/12/2020 07:37

Asda yesterday, no stuffing or xmas pudding which is a disappointment.

Substituted some of our veggie 'party food' with meat versions so had to hand them back.

Actually thought there were less items missing than in previous years, and I guess we've just got used to accepting what comes and making do until our next delivery.

Tinselerama21 · 23/12/2020 07:38

If anyone’s worried about use by on veg please don’t be, just make sure your fridge is nice and cool 4-5 degrees, a lot of people have it warmer and that’s when things don’t last so long.

itsmeagain76 · 23/12/2020 07:39

Tesco on 22nd home delivery.
No potatoes? sent 4 boxes of premade mash as a sub!
Peppercorn sauce instead of bread sauce
Lettuce goes out of date today
Pretty bad dates on a lot of stuff but at least okay until Christmas day.

Subs also included bake at home massive baguettes instead of the tiny petit pain I ordered.
A few others which were okay.

Will need to brave shops to get potatoes and lettuce but all others bearable.

Tinselerama21 · 23/12/2020 07:40

@Pumpkinpied they will be fine, or you can freeze them and cook from frozen? Get your fridge nice and cool as I said. As long as you’re then not eating anything raw you will be absolutely fine Smile

Whataliberty · 23/12/2020 07:42

Iceland arrived yesterday missing my entire frozen foods order. They must have given it to someone else. They are going to try again today to deliver what is missing....

MellowYellow101 · 23/12/2020 07:43

May be worth checking your turkeys if you can a bit earlier (maybe Xmas eve) as I remember they were selling gone off turkey last year. I remember Tesco was the main baddie of the bunch!

Whattimeisdinner · 23/12/2020 07:43

Not in a million years would I entrust my Christmas food shopping to someone else.

And this year even more so: delivery slots round here are like gold dust so I'll leave them for people that need them thanks.*

Ditto! I’m a fussy bugger. I like to choose the veg & meat especially and check use by dates...

DecemberSun · 23/12/2020 07:44

Tesco came up trumps.
