How have your Christmas food deliveries worked out?

Ocado have delivered me no gammon and a chicken that goes off on Christmas Eve so now I need to brave the shops and keep my fingers crossed.

How has everyone else faired?

@jackstini

Best substitution ever

Ordered spiced red cabbage
Got a piece of Brie and a piece of Saint Agur instead

That is pure class.

My Sainsbury’s delivery is due this morning, some sensible substitutions and only one thing not in stock that I’d marked as not to substitute. Will have to see what the dates are like when it arrives but they’re usually ok.

Dearmaria · 23/12/2020 05:53

Had an Asda delivery on Monday. Only had 2 subs, everything else was fine. Subbed a box of border biscuits for Victoria ones and a yule log for a chocolate orange torte which actually looks very nice! Beef brisket and gammon joint both have a date of the 30th. All veg looks really fresh and should have no problem lasting until Friday. Was very pleased. I usually have more subs/out of stock items on a regular month.

Goodmorninglights · 23/12/2020 05:58

Tesco and all there bar the fresh sage. Also three eggs and a box of Lindor chocs that had dropped down from someone else’s basket, unless everyone has had the chocolates this year?

Seymour5 · 23/12/2020 06:04

We've prepaid for delivery from Sainsbury's, and we are classed as vulnerable, age and my husband's health. We couldn't get a delivery slot this week, even though we have had a weekly order since March. Fortunately there are several supermarkets nearby, as well as butchers and other shops so I've got almost everything. I'm off in a few minutes to pick up my preordered meat, and some fresh milk and bread.

@Molly499

Ocado deliveries so far have been brilliant but a bit nervous about the one for the 24th, shellfish and meat bought locally.

Yorkshire puddings with Xmas lunch, do many people do this? Why would you buy them though, same with frozen roast potatoes, so easy to make?

How condescending! Yes many people do have Yorkshire puddings, particularly in the north, the bit Ocado don't deliver to Xmas Hmm There is nothing wrong with frozen yorkies and roasties. Maybe they prefer spending time with their families rather than slaving in the kitchen at Christmas. None of your business and no need to try and make people feel inadequate.

@LeSangeEstDansLarbre

Morrison’s deliveries are picked at the warehouse, so my shopping has never seen the inside of a store before it comes to me. Dates are always long as a result - most meat more than one week, sometimes two; veg the same; milk 7 - 10 days.
Not true where I live, the pickers are in the supermarket.
BertieBob · 23/12/2020 06:14

Had our Asda delivery yesterday, all fine only a few subs swapped for very sensible things.

NotQuiteUsual · 23/12/2020 06:17

Picking up the shop in two hours. But no cider, no sausage rolls, no cheese cake and no pastries!!

VettiyaIruken · 23/12/2020 06:22

Perfect. Nothing missing, one sub for chicken legs. A bigger pack of chicken thighs. Nice! (Tesco)

Pixxie7 · 23/12/2020 06:27

Order from Tesco good but I think the picker must have been on the Sherry as now drowning in jacket potatoes 3 packs instead of I, sprouts 3 packets instead of 1 and stuffing 4 different lots.

ginsparkles · 23/12/2020 06:28

Sainsbury's, didn't send mango or quorn, neither of which were needed for Christmas Day anyway. No smoked salmon substituted with ordinary salmon, so I picked some up from M&S on my way home from work last night.

Skipsurvey · 23/12/2020 06:30

it was great, although i have still to get the meat and baileys

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 23/12/2020 06:33

Sainsburys yesterday. No Bucks fizz or brandy cream so grabbed those from Aldi.

Aposterhasnoname · 23/12/2020 06:34

Asda, just one substitution, a different brand of mince pies, I can live with that.

I only discovered the joys of online deliveries in summer when I had to quarantine, I’m well impressed. Cant believe I’ve spent so many years queuing in packed supermarkets.

RoobyMyrtle · 23/12/2020 06:39

Mine from Sainsbury was perfect - only one sub: Xmas cake bites instead of a small cake which was for someone else anyway. I've been doing food orders since they started so knew to get essential things like Xmas puddings early. No meat as we're having chestnut roast. I'm not planning to go near any shops for at least 2 weeks now (unless the local deli screws up the bread and cheese delivery)

SilentScreenQueen · 23/12/2020 06:41

Mine is being delivered shortly. I’ve checked & they have subbed part baked rolls for part baked baguettes but everything else is fine. Our turkey is already in the freezer though so, apart from sprouts, it was just a normal shop.

Nowaynothappening · 23/12/2020 06:44

Tesco shop was delivered yesterday. I thought lots of things would be missing and I’d have to drive all over to track some carrots and sprouts down today but to my surprise, nothing was missing! The only substitution was a bag of sprouts for a big stalk of sprouts Grin.

devildeepbluesea · 23/12/2020 06:48

Not in a million years would I entrust my Christmas food shopping to someone else.

And this year even more so: delivery slots round here are like gold dust so I'll leave them for people that need them thanks.

Rubyupbeat · 23/12/2020 06:52

Mine is coming today, fingers crossed, also a delivery from the greengrocer,

Effinell · 23/12/2020 06:54

Asda order coming this morning. 2 sensible subs (jacobs crackers and kitchen roll) but no gluten free bread so I'm going to have to brave the shop for that or ask DH to get some on his way home from work.

Travis1 · 23/12/2020 06:58

Why do these threads bring out the sanctimonious’you DONT make your own Yorkies 😱’ and ‘I’ll leave deliveries for those that REALLY need it’ people? 🙄 ugh some people need to take a look themselves.

Anyway, Tesco shop yesterday two like for like subs. I will go out Christmas Eve morning for my tiger bread and that’s it. Happy as Larry 😁

Peanutbutterblood · 23/12/2020 06:59

My tesco shop is coming at 9 today, im a bit nervous, this is the one week of the year I dont normally get a delivery, I really dotn want to go out so fingers crossed it's all there

superstar84 · 23/12/2020 07:01

My Tesco is due in 3 hours, loads is showing as out of stock now when it was all in stock yesterday ☹️

Hoping it's not to bad and we can always pop to the coop

Luckily turkey is already the freezer with pigs in blankets and lots of frozen veg as a back up

JurassicShay · 23/12/2020 07:04

Asda yesterday, 21 subs!
Twiglets for dry roasted peanuts
Cheeslets for cheese savouries
Cherryade & dandelion & burdock for orangeade
Salt & vinegar twirls for s&v sticks
Doughnuts for eclairs
Chicken Xmas trees for chicken pakoras
Ect

They basically swapped all our snacks & party food for inferiors. Kids won't care but I do, I'm off to Tesco to grab some bits for myself this morning.

KitKatastrophe · 23/12/2020 07:06

We had an Asda click and collect. 7 subs but all pretty sensible - Birds eye peas for Asda peas, that sort of thing.

I haven't done a "big" xmas shop but added things to the shop over the past few weeks. I didn't want to risk not having christmas pudding, for example, so got that week's ago. This week was just fresh stuff and normal staples.
