Ocado have delivered me no gammon and a chicken that goes off on Christmas Eve so now I need to brave the shops and keep my fingers crossed.

How has everyone else faired?

Mine with Tesco is coming tomorrow morning so will let you know but nothing essential apart from fresh Yorkshire puddings 🤞. Got a turkey in the freezer and party food etc all in already. Had a Asda shop yesterday and that just had 4 unavailable items and 1 substitution. Some of the food was for my friend over the road from me and her mother in law as she wasn't able to get a slot. I had ordered all my fresh vegetables, cheeses etc to come yesterday and then things I couldn't get was hoping would come with tomorrow's order.

"Although I can't find sellotape anywhere and looks like I'll have to glue the wrapping paper shut!"

This made me laugh!

One year we ended up using plasters from the First Aid kit when we ran out on Xmas Eve and couldn't face any more shopping.

Crunchymum · 22/12/2020 23:41

I'll let you know tomorrow.

I already have turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets and Yorkshire puds so I'm just awaiting potatoes, veg, pork joint, booze and dessert (plus a weekly shop).

ifIwerenotanandroid · 22/12/2020 23:42

I had two orders in case one failed, so we've got everything we wanted & they all have long dates. Thanks, Asda & Tesco. Flowers ordered from local florist but yet to arrive.

I bought some things early, like pannettone, cake decs etc & they were out of stock by the time of my last orders so just as well I did.

FatLassNumber1 · 22/12/2020 23:43

Tesco click and collect at 9pm last night. Total disaster. All the items were there but all of the frozen or chilled items were defrosting and unusable. Think soggy roasties. Got on the phone straight away and refunded the cost of the items but no more slots available so no replacements. Not as important anymore though as tonight DPs family (household) have decided 'not to risk it' even though they live 15 doors away so it will be just the 2 of us for dinner after all Confused

glastogal · 22/12/2020 23:44

Got my Tesco c&c today. 3 subs, all generous, higher value alternatives (and multiples!!) plus a free box of mince pies and I was offered chocolates as I packed up my car. Very pleased!

Crankley · 22/12/2020 23:46

My Tesco delivery was fine except no little gem lettuce or brandy butter. I bought the first from a local store and made my own brandy butter. The meat was ordered from London butchers, hopefully being delivered tomorrow.

izzyrose85 · 22/12/2020 23:48

Asda 7 subs out of about 50 items, subs were pretty sensible to be fair (things like fresh garlic instead of the lazy garlic, pack of smaller red onions instead of one of the nets of 3). Only item they couldn't deliver or sub was camembert.

hiddeneverythin · 22/12/2020 23:54

Asda substituted my £25 bottle of champagne with a £50 one. Result.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 22/12/2020 23:59

Tesco - no Pringles or Schloer. I will survive

CeibaTree · 23/12/2020 00:07

Waitrose today and we got everything apart from a cheese selection. But that was actually fine as my DH went to the local cheese shop and stocked up this afternoon which is what he wanted to do in the first place, and I was trying to save money by getting a supermarket selection!

VividImagination · 23/12/2020 00:12

Tesco, 2 sensible subs - well the Tesco cheese and chive dip was replaced by Tesco cheese and chive dip so obviously that was fine. They had no coleslaw and potato salad so no substitute but we will survive. I now have everything I need!

vanillandhoney · 23/12/2020 00:12

Morrison's yesterday.

No substitutions 😊

WeirdWomble · 23/12/2020 00:13

Ocado delivery arrived yesterday. Only 2 missing items. Everything seemed ok. I was really worried we wouldn't get a Turkey but it arrived

Isthatitnow · 23/12/2020 00:29

Asda - 2 substitutes that were reasonable, nothing out of stock. Didn’t order turkey, however as we don’t really like it and the veg is being delivered Xmas eve through a local green grocers.

ceeveebee · 23/12/2020 00:38

Ocado coming at 8am - according to the website “the order is ready to leave the hub” and there is a receipt to download which implies all there...but will wait and see! Turkey coming from local butchers anyway

nanny2012nanny · 23/12/2020 00:43

If you can physically go shopping yourself you should.
Your incredibly lucky to get a delivery slot...
Ive spent the last 9 months shopping for my albeit very small village as no slots available.
Everyone should know that when you shop online the packers give you the items with the shortest shelf life.....

VanGoghsDog · 23/12/2020 00:45

I got my Sainsbury's order Sunday. My cauliflower was subbed for an "unnamed item" which was, in fact, a cauliflower.

Other than that near disaster.....it was all fine. Farm shop delivers the meat Thursday morning.

VanGoghsDog · 23/12/2020 00:46

No, we've been told not to leave the house, so in fact, if we can shop online, we should.

There's no shortage of slots now, I've not struggled to get one at all since March.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 23/12/2020 00:47

Sainsburys did a good job. One item not available and had said no sub. Wasn't important. One sub which was fine.
I did buy stuff to freeze a couple of weeks ago.

lioncitygirl · 23/12/2020 00:48

Waitrose here - all ok no subs. Turkey, gammon, beef and salmon.

Blueberrycreampie · 23/12/2020 00:49

That never happens with me. Order comes from local Waitrose and I'm always impressed with the use by dates. Despite that, the last lot of bananas started to go rotten really quickly and one of my eggs was cracked!

Redglitter · 23/12/2020 00:52

Got my Tesco order yesterday. Absolutely everything there, no substitutions. Was absolutely amazed

Redglitter · 23/12/2020 00:53

Id totally disagree with that. Definitely not my experience

Molly499 · 23/12/2020 00:55

Ocado deliveries so far have been brilliant but a bit nervous about the one for the 24th, shellfish and meat bought locally.

Yorkshire puddings with Xmas lunch, do many people do this? Why would you buy them though, same with frozen roast potatoes, so easy to make?
