Where are all the mumsnetters who:

  • are mid-millennial
  • Extremely Online
  • left wing
  • probs on Twitter
  • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie
  • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf

Bonus points for ex-emo kids.

Do you exist?

Sorry, can you remind the point if your thread is?

My DH is still a little bit in love with the girl wearing the tartan trousers in the bowling for soup music video.

whoamongstus · 22/12/2020 19:22

@PreRaphaeliteMotherhood

- are mid-millennial ✅
  • Extremely Online - don’t really know what this means so probably not.
  • left wing ✅
  • probs on Twitter - can’t stand it.
  • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie - not my thing but if that’s what you’re into then cool.
  • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf ✅ - although to be fair I think playing golf ‘ironically’ makes you sound like a wanker.

Bonus points for ex-emo kids - ‘I’m not emo!!’ Was totally my phrase in the mid-noughties. On reflection, I really was.

I definitely should not have included the golf, that's foxing everyone!

Hello, fellow ex-emo kid. I'm starting to think I should get off Twitter, almost everyone else seems more sensible than me. It just raises my blood pressure ha!

Jesus, aren't we all. Also, I haven't listened to this song in about 5 years, thank you

Also, I saw Bowling for Soup (finally!) a few years ago and it was amazing. And the crowd kept singing the Yaya Toure football chant (god knows why?!) and the band had absolutely no idea what to do hahaaaaa.

VestaTilley · 22/12/2020 19:25

I’m 34, is that mid millennial?

I don’t tick any of the rest of your boxes! I think the Mumsnet demographic is generally politically centrist and slightly older.

user1471565182 · 22/12/2020 19:25

Imagine the distress in being called a remoaner by the sort of person who uses the word remoaner?

RUTheShitploppeeOrShitplopper · 22/12/2020 19:28

@whoamongus Also you should have written 'Always online' or something much more clearer because some don't seem to understand what 'extremely' and 'online' means enough to put two and two together, even based on context.

Must be the name of a band or something, hence the confusion Wink.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 22/12/2020 19:29

@RUTheShitploppeeOrShitplopper

OP you made the grave mistake of not including "lighthearted" in your post! It's like a neon vest, you see.

People need to see it! Grin

TBH, the first mistake was probably putting it on AIBU, which is entertaining to read, but you need a thick skin to start a topic here! It's also funny to read the out of date stereotypes of Millenials as being blue haired whatevergenders. Isn't that Gen Z's thing?

I was just a smidge too old for emo sadly. My time was more the early 00s, where I transformed from an indie kid into a lover of terrible nu-metal. I still listen to my old Korn, Deftones, System of a Down etc CDs on the school run. And yes, I used to change my MSN Messenger status to lyrics from said bands.

Yeah I reckon so! The definition I saw online said 1980 - 2000, so you're middling.

And agreed about the demographic - hence me asking I guess Grin But it's turned into a nice reminisce about the teenage emo years!

Im very confused as to whether your friends like golf or not Hmm

user1471565182 · 22/12/2020 19:34

As Camembert says, this thread demonstrates perfectly why MN has the reputation. A load of angry little people who cant get away with abusing their family or friends so take it out on random posts like this behind the safety of a screen. Could they even tell you us makes them angry about this thread?

All the abuse thrown at millenials on here, yet the minute anybody suggest older people voted for brexit as a demographic for example the squawking about ageism begins.

SOmuchsparkle · 22/12/2020 19:35

It's probably due to the double negative & wine 😂
Do you drink wine OP?

YoniAndGuy · 22/12/2020 19:35

People are seriously prepared to waste so much time playing golf 'ironically'?? God how lame.

user1471565182 · 22/12/2020 19:36

Deftones' White Pony album is still a classic

SOmuchsparkle · 22/12/2020 19:38

@user1471565182 I'm mid 40's. Live in London. Blaming the rest of the country for Brexit!

FirewomanSam · 22/12/2020 19:38

Oh this thread is hilarious... all of those describe me to a T and I too would never admit to being on mumsnet IRL (that’s ‘in real life’, for all the irate boomers feeling personally attacked by people using phrasing they don’t understand Wink)

I’m off to play some Assassins Creed while scrolling through Twitter during every cutscene.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 22/12/2020 19:38

Hmmm. Not sure that's true. I know what extreme means. I know what online means. And I am online far more than I probably should be. But that's not really what the link OP posted said it means Hmm

Blue haired whatevergenders isn't a millenial thing IMO. It seems to be younger people who are doing that stuff.

vinoelle · 22/12/2020 19:40

I’m not sure I’m welcome here but I’m bored, a bit drunk and on my phone after a fight with DH. I think I’m the complete opposite of you. Mid millennial still, but right wing, hate game consoles/vastly limit all screen time (even mumsnet!) , don’t know how to work Twitter or Instagram, and my husband is a member of a very expensive golf club.

Was never an emo, Blair in gossip girl was my inspo. No idea who bowling for soup are.

Tofu35 · 22/12/2020 19:42

Loving this thread! Old millennial, ex(ish) emo and partial to a bit of funeral for a friend and deftones. Although even the mention of livejournal started an internal cringe that may take weeks to leave me. Oh the angst, the dashboard/bright eyes driven angst.

We are definitely opposites. Although Blair had excellent headbands and I did go through a coloured tights phase.

Hope you & your DH make up soon and that's there's more alcohol! I'm drinking now to forget the sheer pain of being called a Remoaner upthread Wink

Yaaaaay hello, FFAF were my favourite band of all time, probably still would be if you forced me into some kind of life or death Desert Island Discs. 🤣

I am so, so so glad that I will never be able to find or read some of the stuff I wrote on the internet ever again. It makes me go hot with embarassment just thinking about it hahahaha.
