Where are all the mumsnetters who:

  • are mid-millennial
  • Extremely Online
  • left wing
  • probs on Twitter
  • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie
  • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf

Bonus points for ex-emo kids.

Do you exist?

The negative comments on here are exactly why Mumsnet is ridiculous. So needlessly offended by something that has absolutely no bearing on their lives and a complete inability to just scroll past.

I'm here...! 👋

👋 HIYA! Welcome to this very weird thread which is 50% people reminiscing about wearing our Converse and being idiots on the internet, and 50% people VERY upset about it.

I also still own and wear a pair a vans from time to time, mainly for when I walk the dog, they're quite comfy.

The thing that most folk misunderstand about MN is that, although there is probably a central 'largest percentage' age group/demographic in the middle, there really is all age groups and all walks of life here.

I've been knocking around on here for 12 years. I've learned a lot of quite serious and important stuff. Life changing at one point, for me. And had a good laugh :) This is an interesting thread:

Yeah that's definitely a misconception I had about it. And I've been (mostly pleasantly) suprised that I was wrong. I'm gonna go and read that thread while I eat my tea Smile

Oooh see I see everyone talking about Clubhouse on Twitter but (maybe it's just the people I follow!) I thought I was too old to be invited 🤣 Is it basically like Houseparty but not terrible?

But hiyaaaaa, welcome to the weird thread. I'm genuinely pleased how many (nice) people have responded haha!

Heads off to get more Sherry and After Eights.

I'm a millennial and left wing. Was never really big on emo as preferred heavier rock music. I still have my piercings from my rebellious days. I don't game anymore cos kids and work took over my life and I can't see that changing for years. I don't dye my hair blue or any other funky colours. Instagram and Twitter seem pointless to me, I use fb and that's it.

To be honest (and I'm making a huge , broad, sweeping generalisation) but my generation bore me to tears.

Maireas · 22/12/2020 19:05

Interesting! If I was also going to make a huge sweeping generalisation, I think people who were 'like me' as teens who have children have changed more than those who haven't (with exceptions, of course). So I think that makes sense - 90% of my real life friends are intentionally child free or not really thinking about having children yet, so I'll be interested to see what we'll all be like in 10 years as (presumably) more of them do have children.

I’m a mother, married to a nice man, live in a detached house in the burbs, have an absurd level of higher education, am a creative freelancer, middle class and home counties raised. I owned many Jane Norman bags. I think twitter is a cesspit and corbyn is a twat, and I believe that cancel culture is a terrifying neo-puritan threat to our society.

I’m also a millennial, a filthy minded and unshockable semi-reformed party girl, an a former high school nerd who had purple hair and hand painted Doc Martens at 15. I’m a natural lefty, have a very happy open marriage, and am queer as a three pound note Grin

I grew out of tribes when I was about 21 because i don’t fit into any of them, and as a result I have had a wonderfully rich and varied social life because I take everyone just as I find them. Everyone has many sides to them if you care to dig a bit @whoamongstus Smile

igotosleep · 22/12/2020 19:13

I’m a couple years younger.
• Jane Norman or JD Sports bags
• Bebo
• Piczo
• MSN Messenger

I definitely wasn’t emo as didn’t like the music (my friend was!) and was more into 50 cent and Ashanti - sorry Blush

igotosleep · 22/12/2020 19:14

Also, have nearly 3 children and joined MN when I was pregnant, none of my friends have kids. I am on here a fair amount but if I mentioned it to my friends they would look at me like I’ve got 3 heads!

Hate Twitter, labour supporter, from your neck of the woods...

You make some excellent points (and sound a lot like my mum - I mean that as a good thing!).

I wasn't seeking out my internet clones so we can all agree with each other, just curious to see if there were other people with broadly similar lives/interests/views. Obviously there'll be loads of people who intersect one way or another with my 'criteria'!

It's been a funny old thread though. Not even sure what the point is any more ha!

  • are mid-millennial ✅
  • Extremely Online - don’t really know what this means so probably not.
  • left wing ✅
  • probs on Twitter - can’t stand it.
  • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie - not my thing but if that’s what you’re into then cool.
  • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf ✅ - although to be fair I think playing golf ‘ironically’ makes you sound like a wanker.

Bonus points for ex-emo kids - ‘I’m not emo!!’ Was totally my phrase in the mid-noughties. On reflection, I really was.
