Shops always busy at Christmas, I've just stupidly tried to pop in for a few things, first aisle got jammed in and couldn't move trolley round with out bumping someone, everywhere I turned trolleys and people darting around. Put my apples back, decided to go back later but still struggled to navigate round people. Get near doors decide to keep walking at this point as a man walk down my right side trying to cut across in front and because I decided to keep going, got called a F**king nut case and he kept calling me to the man behind me.

As I left I stated to the man behind that I'd spend a good while trying to stay out of people way that I didnt actually get anywhere and he was being a bit harsh, he replied well I never f**king said anything did I.
I need stuff but I'm I the only one to find the shops today so unbearable that I left and Im prepared to just get whats left later rather than deal with crowds like that.
Christ it had me dizzy and demented.

Sorry, just feel calmer already just typing my stress out!!!

Your not being unreasonable. I went to sainsbury yesterday with daughter and it was manic made worse by staff who didn’t know where things were . Also they ran out of bags? Everywhere. As I was walking out I saw some and picked 6 up as I paid earlier at the till then told they had none. Some girl said you’ve got to pay for them which zi said I did and she said show me you’ve paid then looked at my trolley of food and said have you paid for that and no the staff weren’t stressed. I spoke quite loudly at her and said are you accusing me of stealing an entire trolley of food when you won’t take any bags around the tills. I just told her to back off but by that time I was just about keeping myself restrained.

Put veg in bottom drawer of fridge and put a tea towel on top, it will last much longer promise.

earnshaw47 · 24/12/2020 13:04

thats a good way of looking at, otherwise we might just think what a selfish lot they are

Bookworming · 24/12/2020 14:42

So OP you abandoned your trolley, you therefore obviously didn't need the stuff, so why go and add to the carnage?

Lots of people in there just wanted a "few bits" that they clearly don.t need and they cause a busy shop.

contrmary · 24/12/2020 14:49

The abandoned trolley is one of the few ways customers can show supermarkets their dissatisfaction. I do it a few times a year usually, although not this year because I've only been into one when I need stuff and don't fancy going somewhere else.

My favourite time was abandoning my shopping after putting it on the conveyor belt at the till! The guy at the checkout was beyond useless and I waited a good few minutes for him to slooooowwwwly serve the person in front, stopping after each item he scanned to have a chat. So I walked out and went somewhere else - still not certain whether it took any longer than continuing to wait would have!

What a lovely festive spirit, the supermarkets don't make the 1000s come through their doors buying like they can't access the shop for a month it's the shoppers.

Glad you didn't fancy it this year, I'm sure you weren't missed!

Jesus the supermarket workers get one bloody day off ( mostly the supermarkets open on Boxing Day) and have to deal with twats having a tantrum and flouncing out leaving their trolleys to be dealt with.

Ddot · 24/12/2020 16:35

Yes its not fair to leave your trolly and run but its also not fair for supermarkets to let so many shoppers in at once. Not fair on staff or shoppers. I spoke to a shop assistant who looked like a bunny in the head lights, poor lamb was terrified and still apologised to me about the congested lane. Yes its Christmas but we are still in a pandemic so must act civil to each other and especially to the staff. Not their fault greedy fat cats at the top dont give a stuff

It does literally nothing but cause more work for shop staff but well done 👏👏👏

Ddot · 24/12/2020 18:22

I've worked in shops, I would have been grateful to get off till and spend time putting stuff back

I've worked in shops and would've hated clearing up after the entitled cunts having a tantrum over the shop being "too busy"!

froggywentacarolling · 24/12/2020 20:01

I agree with the posters saying go late.

I popped into M&S half an hour before closing and it was like a dream. Only a handful of other shoppers, nearly everything yellow stickered (to an insane degree, eg things costing £4 on sale for 27p), and the staff really cheery looking forward to the staff sale.

Ddot · 25/12/2020 04:44

Good for you

Truly pathetic. Get a life.
EleanorRigbyWasReal · 25/12/2020 09:54

@contrmary ... that’s not nice. Unkind.

Ddot · 25/12/2020 11:14

Store assistant was happily putting my haul through checkout, he sneezed and snotted all over everything, I didn't have the heart to leave it in case he got sacked so just washed everything when I got home. Pre covid I might add 🤢

squeekums · 25/12/2020 14:44

@slashlover

Because abandoning trolleys for the staff to deal with wont cause more bother or lots of food waste.
exactly, i kind of think its total arrogance and a whole, "im better than these lowly shop staff" tone Yes its Christmas and shops busy, if people are stupid enough to leave it till last minute to shop, what do you expect? A red carpet for your shop? Get fucked lol

If people have an issue with the number of staff, contact the head office to complain, THEY set staff limits, THEY set the budget managers are allowed to hire with

but its also not fair for supermarkets to let so many shoppers in at once
So you expect the young staff to tell and in some cases demand pushy, entitled, arrogant shoppers to follow instruction when most staff have had NO training in what essentially crowd control
If its such a big deal, shops need to hire SECURITY GUARDS to do that, they trained in crowd control
We were actually told NOT to demand people leave store or even wear a mask as its a risk to OUR physical safety if they refuse.

Can you tell ive spent my night dealing with holidays shoppers

Some customers have panic attacks, add a mask to that and I can see why trolleys are abandoned.

CakeRequired · 26/12/2020 13:56

Anyone who goes in a shop, any shop really, in the few days before Christmas, in the middle of the bleeding day and expects it to not be busy, in utter chaos and to have a regular easy shop, you are a complete and utter moron.

You go in EXPECTING it to be busy and chaos and to find nothing you need. Bonus if you get something.

This thread really just proves why rates keep increasing across the uk and other countries. Zero common sense, the only thought is me me me. And none of you gave a shit about the workers who had to do more work and put your food back, or more likely throw it out as its probably policy now. So that's food wastage as well. And makes you look like you think the workers are below you.

And mumsnet is meant to be full of intelligent women who want to protect the planet and are super nice to everyone? Grin

earnshaw47 · 26/12/2020 16:52

agree CakeRequired especially after seeing the crowds out today for the boxing day sales, are they really so desperate for a sales bargain that they will risk their own and others health, feel sad really that my fellow human beings can act like this and its not new, remember the beaches being choka in the summer , so so selfish

Ddot · 27/12/2020 06:45

We all need food but to risk health for a bargain no way, I have recieved some vouchers for Christmas and are desperate to spend them. Not that bloody desperate, so will wait, stuff is not worth dying for. Going to wait, really will wait, not going to give in, need to spend them, no I'm going to wait, yes waiting. Need tea!

Before you venom me, it's a joke!

Bridewel1 · 29/12/2020 11:41

I totally agree and would have done the same too. But I abandoned my few items in Aldi for a different reason. Picked up a bag of sweet potatoes. They were smaller inside than I wanted but took them anyway and in one of the bags i found a rotten potato. Then when to get some tomatoes which I like to be firm they were soft so thought they wouldn’t last. Then thinking of the rotten potato and the fact I needed to go to Tesco’s as well I just dumped what little shopping I had on the shelf and walked out thinking I’ve got to go to Tesco I’ll get better quality there. I do like Aldi but somethings aren’t always the freshest.

And you wonder why M&S staff don't like you.

Perhaps next time you can be more organised? Get your apples and fruits in advance? Leaving your shopping to last minute and then posting on here stressed. Says to me someone who is not organised. Perhaps you can prepare better next year?

Leaving a full trolley tells me you are not coping. Leaving a full trolley is not generally what people do ,when they go shopping last minute.

Is this genuine post OP?

KatherineOfTarragon · 29/12/2020 17:01

@Bridewel1 what??
