Just abandoned trolley in supermarket.......

Shops always busy at Christmas, I've just stupidly tried to pop in for a few things, first aisle got jammed in and couldn't move trolley round with out bumping someone, everywhere I turned trolleys and people darting around. Put my apples back, decided to go back later but still struggled to navigate round people. Get near doors decide to keep walking at this point as a man walk down my right side trying to cut across in front and because I decided to keep going, got called a F**king nut case and he kept calling me to the man behind me.

As I left I stated to the man behind that I'd spend a good while trying to stay out of people way that I didnt actually get anywhere and he was being a bit harsh, he replied well I never f**king said anything did I.
I need stuff but I'm I the only one to find the shops today so unbearable that I left and Im prepared to just get whats left later rather than deal with crowds like that.
Christ it had me dizzy and demented.

Sorry, just feel calmer already just typing my stress out!!!

Don’t agree with abandoning the trolley . The man may have been rude but shop assistants will pick up your mess 🙄

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 23/12/2020 17:42

Some stores are better than others. Our Sainsbury's is better at managing covid etc than Morrison's.

I left part way through today, there were more people than l felt comfortable with. But l got most of it.

I went to the large 24hr Tesco near me with my daughter at 8am today . We went at that time because she likes to scan and shop which doesn't commence till then. The shop was nearly empty and the shelves well stocked. It took us longer to get everything because it's not our usual shop and we had to go up and down every aisle as we didnt know where anything was Smile

@Milssofadoesntreallyfit Andy Williams sang “Its the most wonderful time of the year”. Yeah...not if you’re an adult woman. Google The Staves “Good Woman”. You’re fine.

LoisLane66 · 23/12/2020 17:54

Good girl. Pour yourself a large whatever you fancy and put your feet up. You'll live to fight another day. Cheers! 😵...🍷🍷🥴👍

jules0607 · 23/12/2020 17:56

Not sure why you would expect the shops & customers to not be like this? I did click & collect on Sunday (only cause there were no delivery slots left). No shops for me til 2021!

Zeewest · 23/12/2020 17:57

Our m&s don't restock overnight. They opened at 6 yesterday i went in at 9 the aisles were jammed with staff unloading crates and large metal cages, no room for any social distancing between customers/staff. Only needed a couple of things in and out with a basket in minutes but there were terrible log jams with trolleys

weffles · 23/12/2020 17:58

I had this a few weeks ago at Lidl. A supermarket worker opened a new checkout and escorted me over to it. Knob who was queuing behind shouted and I sloped back to original queue as it wasn’t worth getting into an argument about it. This part of Christmas I detest.

LoreBee · 23/12/2020 17:59

Try working there!! It’s been an absolute joke this week, today not as bad as Monday/Tuesday but it’s so hard to social distance. I will move if anyone comes near me however a lot of people just don’t care. Too many people allowed in shops since Boris visited a store and said they can up the capacity. It’s horrible and I am filled with anxiety going to work recently (never really an anxious person before). Thankfully it’s almost over!

KatherineOfTarragon · 23/12/2020 18:00

@Milssofadoesntreallyfit why are you leaving everything until today?

For goodness sake its just a xmas shop!. Plan more and have less stress.

Before you say i have loads of money to buy all at once, i do not. I have been buying for and freezing / storing since September.

Leave everything to last minute, and the middle of a global pandemic and yes, you may encounter queues /problems.

Jeez!

KatherineOfTarragon · 23/12/2020 18:03

@Milssofadoesntreallyfit "I've just stupidly tried to pop in for a few things"

Yes, you said it yourself. Stop moaning!

Barney60 · 23/12/2020 18:04

Did similar ,went to Tescos last night at 10pm, i struggled to park, no toilet rolls milk shortage, folks climbing all over to get stuff huge trolleys of stuff some couldnt even see over the top piled that high, get its busy this time of year but ive done mine for last 5 years at same time ive never seen it like this before, think some people going to eat till they explode, i mean shops are open the following day. I just walked out im not bothered i can go call at my local shop social distanced safe. Tescos loss.

Ddot · 23/12/2020 18:05

Shopping is very stressful and totally exhausting at the moment and their is always someone who couldn't give a poo about getting too close. So if the shop let too many in, dump that trolly and do one

honeybee88 · 23/12/2020 18:07

Happy Christmas. Where the only Christmas spirit comes out of a bottle!!

Deathraystare · 23/12/2020 18:09

I had a bit of a strop in Wilkos. I tried to self scan or whatever the new way of paying was. It took me ages to work out what to do and then I found out that you have to pay at the end of the conveyour belt. By the time I realised where I had to pay, it was ot of time and the lady who had been watching me all the time, said I had to do it again. It did not work again so I said I would go and line up elsewhere. She said you can't cancel it (really??!!). I am not sure that is right. I was not in a hurry, just fed up so yes I did walk out. Not sorry.

PaulaJGriffin65 · 23/12/2020 18:19

Can only judge from my local branch of Asda but the supposed restrictions were pretty much none existent or at best shambolic. The store has two entrances, one of which had a queuing system in place, the other (on a main road!) had nothing & no one to regulate shoppers entering the store. The store itself was rammed with queues at almost every checkout stretching the length of an aisle. The attitude to mask wearing was pretty blasé though better than average although the announcement over the tannoy rang a little hollow with a number of staff not wearing masks. Fortunately I was able to get the basics I needed & in and out quickly as few shoppers seem to use the Scan & Go app though again it seemed nuts that the staff employed in this area were ones who either wouldn’t & couldn’t wear masks. Note to the Asda management, if your staff member is exempt from wearing a mask would it not be better to rota them a till where they are behind a protective screen?

cms1972 · 23/12/2020 18:22

I went to Sainsburys on 22/12 in the evening - I had no choice as I finish work late. There was NOTHING on the shelves turkey & Christmas pudding-wise. I thought that was because I'd gone at the end of the day.
So I decided to get up early the next day. Next day, 23/12 at 07:10am in a different Sainsburys.... NOTHING.

The assistant said, "yes we did stock the shelves overnight, but we opened at 6am".

So in just over an hour, mad shoppers cleared the shelves of turkey crowns!! And Christmas puddings!!

And I thought I was being so clever by getting there at 7am Hmm

salsamummy · 23/12/2020 18:22

was in Tesco just before 6am not too bad but needed a nap this afternoon. Smile

KatherineOfTarragon · 23/12/2020 18:24

@Ddot "Shopping is very stressful and totally exhausting at the moment and their is always someone who couldn't give a poo about getting too close. So if the shop let too many in, dump that trolly and do one"

What? Shopping is stressful and exhausting? Is it? Its xmas?? Or is it something you have to do weekly to get groceries in for your family? Have you perhaps left everything too late?

If you do not like crowds should you have spread your xmas shopping across many days?

You have left everything to last minute and now you are moaning.

SpangleSparkle · 23/12/2020 18:26

The amount of times I’ve been halfway through shopping, get an anxiety attack and walk out. Busy shops are the worst. Get up at 5am and pop in then, much better

KatherineOfTarragon · 23/12/2020 18:27

@salsamummy was in Tesco just before 6am not too bad but needed a nap this afternoon.

"
I have also abandoned a full trolley load in Tesco because of their infuriating lack of staff on checkouts a couple of weeks ago.
When I stomped out I fully expected to be wrestled to the ground as went out the one way system ‘in’
I have been using ASDA click and collect but thought , just this one, I’d like to go into a shop."

Well done. You sure showed them. 🙄*

And two minutes later there would have been a red team call, everyone in-store who is till trained would have appeared and you would have been out the door in no time with your shopping.

PizzaForOne · 23/12/2020 18:30

Local Aldi was very quiet at 11am this morning. Roads around the local Tesco were also very quiet.

melspur · 23/12/2020 18:34

Would you rather have those pickers, or the 6+ families they're picking for? I pick for Asda and am usually on frozen, we pick 15 orders at a time on there now and I know I'd much rather see one picker than 15 families. Can you imagine how much busier the supermarkets would be without those pickers?
