We are in a global pandemic, cases rising exponentially. Didn’t take a rocket scientist to anticipate that major restrictions were going to be put in place. It is not the time to take an entirely selfish holiday.

I’ve been flabbergasted at the number of people I’ve seen on social media jetting off to get some sun. We’d all love a holiday but I can’t believe people thought this really was ok!

And now flights are being suspended and people are potentially getting stuck.

AIBU to have limited sympathy?

Because it applies to so many? Or just not liking what it means?

parlourpalm · 20/12/2020 20:50

@Zoecarter

You sound a bit jelouse
A bit what?
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 20/12/2020 20:52

You know what she means parlour

MellowYellow101 · 20/12/2020 20:54

@thisismylife1 I am also in London and been offered tests not far from me, 70 miles from us doesn't sound right at all. I suggest you double check it or get the home testing kit through the post.

Because I'm sick to the back teeth of it - selfish this, selfish that, blatantly flouting the rules, covidiots.

Bollocks to the lot of it.

Every single one of us is selfish and saying you're not is a lie. Every single one of us puts ourselves and out families before strangers. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

There comes a point where people make decisions based on what's best for them and for their family (and you have NO IDEA about everyone's circumstances) and they don't deserve to be accused of murdering your granny. Nobody is setting out to deliberately cause harm. Everyone is trying really hard and has been since fucking MARCH.

So do one with the "selfish covidiots". It's preachy, lacking in compassion, empathy and understanding.

And fucking annoying.

Littleposh · 20/12/2020 20:56

Considering we've only just heard about this new strain, in what way are they being selfish??

madroid · 20/12/2020 20:56

Apparently they've just had a new variant case in Rome from a man who flew there from the UK. :{

SnackySnack · 20/12/2020 20:59

FGS. Shut up moaning and get a life.

That's what I was thinking.
Fbtw · 20/12/2020 21:05

@nosswith

It may be too late for them to hurry back. If they are with relatives, I hope they can stay with them for longer.

My lack of sympathy will be with anyone choosing the self-flagellation that is Ryanair. Nothing to do with Covid 19 though, it would be the same regardless. I don't support the annual animal cruelty that is the Grand National, but Michael O'Leary does.

Actually randox, you know, texting kit randox, sponsor the grand national.
ilovesooty · 20/12/2020 21:06

Everyone is trying really hard

I don't think that's the case.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/12/2020 21:08

Ok then, NEARLY EVERYONE is trying really hard. Because they are. Compliance is high, despite the people on MN who all live in areas where there are street parties every night and nobody wears a mask.

But there comes a point where people break. Especially when you've had the shittiest of shit years from hell, and are now being banned from doing anything even though you live in an area where rates are very low.

Notimeforaname · 20/12/2020 21:09

Everyone always have special circumstances. FFS, unless your relative is dying stay the fuck home
Nobody needs a holiday! It's a construct, not a genuine biological need
I certainly needed my holiday. And no I wont be staying home when my flight is taking off. Sorry.

Aloethere · 20/12/2020 21:09

To be honest as someone in a country that isn't the UK I would rather you all stayed away from here and was happy to hear we are stopping flights from the UK. It may be safer for you to come here but although it is probably inevitable that you will spread the new strain here at some point I would rather we did everything we could to try and prevent it. I do think that it would be selfish of you to come here, I want our schools to stay open and to try and prevent another lockdown as much as we possibly can.
There is lots of talk about needing holidays, being entitled to them but we have lives in these countries too that we would rather not be disrupted as much as is possible because someone with this new strain decides for whatever reason that they need to come here.

TheSunIsStillShining · 20/12/2020 21:10

No, they have not. Just because you have EOHO scheme you don't have to take advantage of it and deliberately put yourself and others at risk of prolonging this shit.
1.8m ppl in August thought it a good idea to travel. Only from Heathrow. And pls. don't think for a second that the vast majority of those were business trips.

People are making this worse than needed by being selfish idiots.

fassbendersmistress · 20/12/2020 21:12
  1. You come across as bitter and jealous.
  1. Willing to bet none of the people currently overseas give shiny shite that they don’t have your “sympathy“.
RaspberryCoulis · 20/12/2020 21:14

Oh right. Forgot MN Has its own ROOLZ and anyone who is sticking to the official law and guidance only, rather than the arbitrary ROOLZ is a selfish flagrant flouter.

My bad.

oakleaffy · 20/12/2020 21:15

@ilovesooty

Everyone is trying really hard

I don't think that's the case.

It definitely isn't.

Potentially seeding the new strain around the Country/Other countries is a bit ''I'm alright, Jack''

Some people are taking care, others aren't, but what can one do about those that aren't?

This is how the virus spreads, different strains are imported /exported as humans mix and mingle.

TikTokFinger · 20/12/2020 21:16

I flew abroad to see my family this weekend. Just got back. First time seeing them this year. I had a great time. Met up with friends, went for walks, was lovely. Judge away.

ilovesooty · 20/12/2020 21:17

I'd like to ban the term "roolz" actually. Grin

Yeahnahmum · 20/12/2020 21:17

Some people are just incredibly selfish op. And ignorant....
And by the looks of it: some of them are on your thread too!
It's beyond me how people would even consider going ATM, and the people who are actually going.... lost for words.

ilovesooty · 20/12/2020 21:19

It's surely common sense that reducing travelling and mixing reduces capacity for transmission.

But holidays were precooked, permitted, and...some people still trust government.
AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 21:20

Prebooked 😂

Kaliorphic · 20/12/2020 21:21

Wish I had been able to book a flight out in time. I'd have gone like a shot. Not to be sadly. I don't wish bad things on anyone who has managed to get away.
