Considering half of this site seems to be completely happy with breaking Covid related laws which other laws do you think shouldn't apply to you?
Is a TV licence too expensive and therefore optional? Should seatbelts be compulsory? Is it ever acceptable to take something without paying? Is assault acceptable in certain circumstances?

OP posts:
housemdwaswrong · 20/12/2020 16:47

I'll happily break loads seen as you asked. 20mph limit on a rural road because of a school, I never do 20 on the weekend on school holidays.

Make uturns where not allowed if the road is empty.

I've driven without tax when I was waiting for pay to come in the next week but still had to work.

I've drunk underage in pubs and bought fags underage too.

I've opened someone else's mail.

Would I assault someone? Yep, if it was a choice between them or me and a loved one. I haven't but I would. If someone came towards me looking to stab me would I kill them? Yes, if I could.

And I'd break the covid laws too if I wanted to. You have no idea about my life but you'd judge anyway. Not everything is black and white, context is everything.

TheBuffster · 20/12/2020 16:47

I never thought having a cup of tea with a relative would be criminalised.
I believe 1930s Germany had a lot of people following the rules. I'd like to think I wouldn't be one of them, but who knows.

TheFuckingDogs · 20/12/2020 16:48

Yes naturalyoghurtmumcher! My thoughts exactly

PrincessNutNutRoast · 20/12/2020 16:57

I know this is a really shitty situation, but I wish the comparisons to Nazi Germany would stop.

TheBuffster · 20/12/2020 16:59

Goodness me. Is hyperbole outlawed as well now.
Just interesting how many people would shop their neighbours is all.

RightYesButNo · 20/12/2020 17:00

@Cam2020

If only sanctimony were a crime Xmas Biscuit
Ah, but sanctimony is the true spirit of Christmas.

Meh, if we’re on the topic anyway, I mean not even really related to the argument, but I’d just appreciate if we could get the people who think they’re so fucking brilliant by referring to them as “roolz” to shut up. I see it once, twice, thrice per COVID thread. It’s not clever and you sound like a right idiot. Dear Lord, if you want to be a toddler about the whole thing, maybe just do it on your own Facebook, so all your friends and family can gossip about how childish you are. We can’t get the full joy of it on MN since we don’t know you personally. Xmas Biscuit

If you think criticising someone's hyperbole is the same as outlawing it, it's probably best you don't leave your house whatever tier you're in.

(That was hyperbole. But yes, you shouldn't be so shocked when someone says they dislike the comparisons to Nazi Germany.)

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 20/12/2020 17:03

Have.a.day.off. Seriously. Some of you have been fumin and frothing and seething for the best part of a year now. It must be tiring.

Gingerkittykat · 20/12/2020 17:04

Neeeee, naaaawwwww. The self righteous covid police are out in force again.

Let's play a game of when would you report your neighbour.

When they have their elderly parents round?
An illegal rave?
They have a coffee with someone in the garden?
They test positive and go round licking door handles and letterboxes?
They watch Eastenders without a TV license?

MassiveSalad · 20/12/2020 17:16

My take from this thread is that being drunk in a pub is illegal. Who knew! I don't think i've ever been sober in a pub.....

TheBuffster · 20/12/2020 17:18

Got it. Approved comparisons only. The sumptry laws? The peasants revolt? Am I getting warm yet?

1990s · 20/12/2020 17:23

Drugs, speeding, drunk cycling, underage drinking off the top of my head, there’s probably more

Gingerkittykat · 20/12/2020 17:27

I watched a programme on BBC iplayer the other week without a TV license, I normally avoid the BBC completely but relatives were guests so I watched it illegally!

covidaintacrime · 20/12/2020 17:31

Which laws to break?

Er, underage drinking. Underage sex (often with middle aged blokes). Underage drug use. Underage cigarettes. Not wearing a seatbelt. Being in a car with a drunk driver. Speeding. Illegal movie and song downloading. Public sex & nudity. Sneaking into 18 movies underage. Stealing. Minor assault. Underage driving without a license or insurance. Trespassing. Illegal fireworks and fire-raising. Lying to the police. Public urination. Vandalism. The occasional Covid crime.

(actually bloody fun to list some of those, you get memories back you forgot you had). Still, we all make choices throughout the courses of our lives that are either the right thing to do or the fun thing to do. Being sanctimonious is neither Smile

TeacupDrama · 20/12/2020 17:33

Some things are legally and morally wrong
somethings are illegal but morally right
somethings are immoral but legal and
some things are both moral and legal

wisdom is knowing and following the differences

Manteo · 20/12/2020 17:44

I don't think the OP is coming back, you've all shocked her with your behaviour!

whiteroseredrose · 20/12/2020 17:47

@TeacupDrama hit the nail on the head. As did Buffster.

If rules are logical, make sense then I follow them quite happily. I'm very much a rule obeyer.

But some of the COVID rules have quite frankly been bonkers.

For quite some time in Manchester I could have lunch with my mum outside a restaurant surrounded by lots of people but not socially distanced in her garden. So I ignored that rule because we both felt much safer without dozens of other people squeezing past us.

I'm in Trafford. Our rates per 100,000 were below our neighbours in Cheshire. I've not been out in weeks nor has my mum so when we went to click and collect in Cheshire we also had a coffee out. Unlike me my DM is social and was getting depressed. So we took a calculated risk.

The demolition of our civil liberties scares me. Nobody wants to get or spread COVID so we use our common sense.

While I'm at it, countries worldwide have had different degrees of lockdown over the past 9 months. Yet all are getting a second wave. Except maybe Auz and NZ who shut their borders.

So maybe locking down just delays the inevitable.

Gobbycop · 20/12/2020 17:49

The odd speed limit if it's safe.

I don't pay a TV licence as I don't have to.

Assault can be legal if it's in defence of you or another.

What's the view like up there from the moral high ground 😂

@LadyLazaruss

I see OP hasn't been back. Probably realised she's actually broken the law in some way once during her life Grin
Probably had the wind taken out of her sails

Would be polite to pop back and say so though

FreshFreesias · 20/12/2020 18:20

Why so goady?

TheGremlinsAreComing · 20/12/2020 18:37

Well I opted out of tv licence because I only have Xbox with gaming and Netflix. All above board. Not quite such a rebel after all Grin

redribbonbow · 20/12/2020 18:46

hilarious OP. I will contribute. I've definitely parked on yellow lines before. Go me.

TrySarahTops · 20/12/2020 18:48

I'm afraid I've broken loads of laws.

Yes I must confess, I have handled salmon suspiciously, I had beaten my matbefore 8am, cycled on the pavement and I have also sang loudly in a library.
