Considering half of this site seems to be completely happy with breaking Covid related laws which other laws do you think shouldn't apply to you?
Is a TV licence too expensive and therefore optional? Should seatbelts be compulsory? Is it ever acceptable to take something without paying? Is assault acceptable in certain circumstances?

I remember learning about Kohlberg's Morality Principle and discovering I was most definitely Post Conventional. This means I recognize the general overall benefit of rules & regulations, but ultimately I always follow my own principles and ethics even if that contravenes social convention.

I don't have much time for those who fall into the Conventional category, and who are dyed in the wool good girls/boys, blindly following the rules & regulations.

I have weed in my spice rack.

Like another poster, I completely misread this first time. I was thinking that I hoped you didn't have anyone round for Christmas lunch and it's nothing to do with the virus.

You can see why learning is so frowned upon in England now ...

John Stuart Mill (of his own free will Grin) had a good point:

@DownstairsMixUp

People still pay their tv license 😳
Having a conscience isn't the same as anarchy.
EggBobbin · 20/12/2020 12:44

My jobs in data analysis and just FYI for a few pps; non payment of tv license is the most common reason for women to be incarcerated! I was a bit baffled but after reading this thread it’s making more sense... (for men it’s assault)

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 20/12/2020 12:45

Um. Let's think. I speed on the motorway, I haven't paid to download music since...I dont actually know but it was back when Limewire was still a thing. Way back when desktop computers were commonplace I don't think I ever had a legal copy of whatever OS was on it.

I cycle on the pavement if no one is around.

If someone hurt my family or my pets I would hurt them back. If I thought I'd get away with it I'd kill a paedophile and never have a guilty thought. Hmm cant think of anything else at the moment but I'm sure I've put stamps upside down

insancerre · 20/12/2020 12:49

Tesco said there is no naughty list, so you can break all the laws you want, Santa and the police don’t care

But it's not non payment of the licence, it's not paying the fine.

Which is what those who don't respect the rules are doing. Killing the vulnerable.

I refuse to be beaten with that particular stick anymore. The vulnerable have been used to coerce people into abandoning their family. I no longer take responsibility for the health and welfare of strangers who likely wouldn't spit on me if I was on fire. 9 months is long enough. I'll hand sanitise, social distance in public and wear a mask, but I'll no longer put the needs of others in front of my family. Sorry not sorry.
PrawnofthePatriarchy · 20/12/2020 16:22

I have weed in my spice rack.

Was scratching my head wondering why that broke the law (unhygienic but not illegal surely) until I realised...

Brightened my day though. I'm too inflexible these days to wee in mine. It's on top of the microwave.

@DownstairsMixUp

I pay it because I value the BBC's output (well, some of it) and hate adverts interrupting programmes (I know the BBC advertises its own output, but between programmes, not during them).
cologne4711 · 20/12/2020 16:25

Nonsense. The virus is killing the vulnerable (and not so vulnerable)

Why do people always try to blame someone? It's like when someone gets murdered, it must be the police's fault, social workers' fault - if it's a "terrorist" mass killing, it's M15's fault. No, it's the murdering bastard's fault.

cologne4711 · 20/12/2020 16:30

I used a fake ID to buy alcohol when I was 17. But did I break the law or did the pub break it unknowingly by selling it to me?

I also used to nick sweets from Woolworths (no wonder they went bust with all the shoplifting being admitted to on here!)

I didn't have underage sex, but if I had, would I have been breaking the law, or the boy I had sex with?

Scarlettpixie · 20/12/2020 16:36

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon

I have weed in my spice rack.

I once (accidently) stole an umbrella. I took it back, but it still counts as a crime.

Accidentally taking something and then returning it isn’t a crime.
Chanjer · 20/12/2020 16:37

Like anyone else I break any law that suits me

Do people really think that people don't do stuff cos it's illegal?

The number of people that get murdered in a year broadly corresponds with the number of people who felt motivated to murder someone.

LadyLazaruss · 20/12/2020 16:38

I see OP hasn't been back. Probably realised she's actually broken the law in some way once during her life Grin

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 20/12/2020 16:38

Definitely break the speed limit on the motorway now and then.
I’m not sure the legal definition of assault but I can certainly think of circumstances where it might be morally appropriate/necessary for safety.
I have stolen the odd packet of post-it notes from work.

Most people do not break the law most of the time because most laws are also in line with most people’s moral code. 🤷‍♀️

naturalyoghurtmuncher · 20/12/2020 16:39

Admit nothing people. You don't know who is reading ( and tracing you all) Xmas GrinXmas Grin

Dillo10 · 20/12/2020 16:41

I've broken loads of laws, obviously. We wouldn't even need them if people weren't going to break them. Never been caught, though! So far...

DGRossetti · 20/12/2020 16:45

I’m not sure the legal definition of assault but I can certainly think of circumstances where it might be morally appropriate/necessary for safety.

But then it's not assault - it's self defence.

Whammyyammy · 20/12/2020 16:45

Are TV Licences still a thing? Stopped funding the BBC years ago.
