To cancel a trip to St Lucia?

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:26

We have booked a holiday to St Lucia from 28 dec to 6 jan, but wondering whether we should still go ahead. What would you do?
We are in a tier 3 area if that makes a difference..
all flights and hotels refundable at the moment..

I'm feeling a bit nervous about being on a flight and catching COVID but equally I would love to go on a beach to get some sunshine!

I wouldn't go. You need to social distance, wear masks and you aren't allowed to leave your accommodation unless you're on an organised trip.
You'll need to quarantine when you get back. Do you have enough leave to do that? I assume you don't have DCs because your return date is too close to when the schools go back. Your DCs would miss the two weeks of school because of quarantine.

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:33

No quarantine from St Lucia as it's in the travel corridor Wink

And DC are pre school age so not worried about school

I wouldn't go. I wouldn't want to potentially take Covid with me. Do you have to take a test before you go?

JustLikeStitch · 19/12/2020 12:34

Selfish and stupid as hell to go on holiday right now.

Jimbellselmbath · 19/12/2020 12:35

I'd go. One of my favourite places. You might not get the chance again for a long time

Delatron · 19/12/2020 12:35

Well you are still allowed to travel abroad from a tier 3 area. I guess you have to produce a negative test a day before? As do most people on the flight so my risk assessment would say that’s no more risky than public transpor/ local shops.

For me it would doesn’t what restrictions were like over there? Will you still be able to have a relaxing holiday and get some well needed vitamin D or will you be stressed the whole time? It really is a personal decision. I’d probably go!

Is St Lucia in the travel corridor? Quarantine isn’t 14 days any more anyway it’s been dropped to ten I think.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 19/12/2020 12:36

If you still can, go.

NoSquirrels · 19/12/2020 12:36

I think you're going to get roasted for this on MN at the moment. If you're more worried about catching Covid on the flight than on spreading it to others travelling from a Tier 3 area, that's your own business.

NurseButtercup · 19/12/2020 12:36

If it's in the travel corridor then go and enjoy the sunshine and soak up the vitamin d!

Delatron · 19/12/2020 12:37

Spelling errors all round. It would depend on restrictions over there. Great news about the travel corridor. I’d go!

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:37

The COVID test is from 7 days before so who knows - that's a long time! People could get infected in the 7 days especially over Christmas Sad

Somewhereelsewhere · 19/12/2020 12:38

O would isolate before going, take a test and then go..

SilverStarburst · 19/12/2020 12:39

Where are you going, op? We went to stay at the Body Holiday resort years ago, got married there and had a super-relaxing time.

PerveenMistry · 19/12/2020 12:39

I work with an immunologist medical doctor of 40 years experience; he trained under Dr Fauci.

Just yesterday he advised us not to travel under any circumstances.

Will you travel company let you postpone without losing $$?

jemimafuddleduck · 19/12/2020 12:39

Omg, I would absolutely go. Do it. I wish I could!!! Have an amazing time.

OllietheOwl · 19/12/2020 12:40

Place marking - let us know what you decided OP! And how it was if you did go...

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:40

@NoSquirrels the St Lucian government is actively encouraging tourists as their economy is screwed due to lack of tourism

OP posts:
Delatron · 19/12/2020 12:41

You can get a quick turnaround test. I thought you needed one from 48 hours before. 7 days is pointless.

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:41

@SilverStarburst we have booked windjammer! Body holiday don't allow kids sadly Sad

Also looked at sugar beach and it's £16k to go over Christmas and New Years! Shock

OP posts:
holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:44

@Delatron yes that's what we are planning to do but the St lucian government guidelines are 7 days before which I think is crazy too!

Longdistance · 19/12/2020 12:45

Can I come? Love St.Lucia 🌞 🇱🇨

LegoPandemic · 19/12/2020 12:45

I think I would go. I’m wishing we had booked something instead of 2 weeks doing nothing at home.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/12/2020 12:45

Essential travel only?

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 19/12/2020 12:45

I wouldn't risk taking covid to St Lucia, no.
