To cancel a trip to St Lucia?

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:26

We have booked a holiday to St Lucia from 28 dec to 6 jan, but wondering whether we should still go ahead. What would you do?
We are in a tier 3 area if that makes a difference..
all flights and hotels refundable at the moment..

I'm feeling a bit nervous about being on a flight and catching COVID but equally I would love to go on a beach to get some sunshine!

Go go go!

Have a lovely holiday, recharge your batteries in the Caribbean sunshine. So jealous.

PerveenMistry · 19/12/2020 13:55

@Barmyfarmy

Don't go, get a refund and go when it's safe. We all could do with a holiday but the rest of us give a shit about not killing our loved ones and people we interact with.

Exactly.

RachelGreep87 · 19/12/2020 13:56

You should just go to Maui instead

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 19/12/2020 13:57

I would cancel. A friend felt fine in her wedding day, flew to the Caribbean on honeymoon and began displaying symptoms on day 2 of her trip. The island hospital was grim!

PerveenMistry · 19/12/2020 14:00
@Moondust001 because they’re risking taking Covid with them both there and back? Because a test 7 days before a flight does not equate to no one on the flight having caught it in the 7 days between negative result and flight? Because were in the middle of a god damned pandemic and if everyone would stop being bloody selfish stupid pricks we’d have it under control by bone?
This.

Those gyrating to find excuses for doing exactly as they please, pandemic be damned, are the reason this wasn't under control by June. Congratulations.

I think it might be academic op, just seen this on Twitter

"Planes are actually low risk. I researched them over the summer"

Well if this is your professional field and your findings have been given to the relevant bodies and validated, do tell us more. I for one would love to be reassured.

If however, you are some random who knows fuck all about it, here is my response to you: Grin Grin Grin

Rockpooler · 19/12/2020 14:09

You need to think about what will you do if one or all of you are ill. Can you afford to stay for an extra 2 weeks. Will insurance cover it. Are any of you likely to need hospital treatment. Are you sure you are insured for all of this?

bendmeoverbackwards · 19/12/2020 14:12

I thought you're only allowed to travel from Tier 3 during the 5 day Christmas period?

Keratinsmooth · 19/12/2020 14:15

We went in October. Lots of paperwork, travel with blue or black biros. Make sure you click next on the forms to add children. (Family in front of us were turned away). Masks on plane was fine, not allowed out of the hotel but didn’t need to. We stayed at the Royalton, it was stunning

Keratinsmooth · 19/12/2020 14:16

Tui COVID guarantee is good

DBML · 19/12/2020 14:20

I’d go.

Anjo2011 · 19/12/2020 14:23

Of I had the chance to cancel, I would. I have heard a few accounts from friends and work colleagues that have travelled by air in the last few weeks. They have all said once at the destination it was fine, but the flight was stressful , many not wearing masks even after crew repeatedly telling them, no chance of social distancing, no empty seats as there are so few flights. Only you can decide if it’s worth it. I think if it were a couple of hours I would go, but long haul I just wouldn’t. Either way it’s a tough call for you. Best wishes.

Kaliorphic · 19/12/2020 14:23

If you're allowed to go then I would.

cariadlet · 19/12/2020 14:26

I wouldn't travel at the moment because I worry about catching covid at the airport or on a flight.

If you're in a tier 3 area, then it would be incredibly selfish to go because you could be spreading the virus.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/12/2020 14:29

It would depend if I could get a refund. If I could I would probably be inclined to postpone but if not I'd go

Fluffybutter · 19/12/2020 14:34

Where are you in the world?
If the U.K. then strong rumours are that the south east and east will be going into tier 4 which means no leaving the house by law and no international travel.
Also means no Christmas relaxation anymore so atleast the frothers on here will be happy..
Hope this is fake news though .

TurquoiseDress · 19/12/2020 14:34

I'd be inclined to say go for it!

Would assume for most international travel you'd need a Covid test within 48-72 hours of travel?

Especially considering St Lucia is a small Caribbean Island...I'd imagine it would be pretty tight restrictions to travel there?

Go ahead with the holiday, get some sunshine & enjoy! Smile

TurquoiseDress · 19/12/2020 14:37

Just to add- I've never been to St Lucia/Caribbean but it's on my wish list, would love to go!

In fact, Aruba would be my dream winter destination getaway.

Not sure why, saw a program on it once about a murder that took place there.

However, a good friend of mine lives in New York and she raved about it!

boilinthebagrice · 19/12/2020 14:38

Bizarre... why would anyone book a holiday abroad in 2020?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/12/2020 14:40

We don't know when it was booked. I had holidays booked this years long before covid.
holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 14:42

We are in the south east so probably this is all academic! Will find out soon I suppose.

We went with kenwood travel and they did allow us to change / cancel if government rules change. And flight booked with avios, so it's only a £35 admin fee to cancel.

We luckily have jobs where we can wfh so not the end of the world if we have to do 14 days quarantine

the thought of being stuck in an island hospital on the off chance we get COVID is definitely not appealing..

OP posts:
SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 19/12/2020 14:48

I'd go.

friendlycat · 19/12/2020 14:51

I would cancel. We were supposed to be on the early morning flight to Gran Canaria today but knew we weren’t going.
Travel during a pandemic is madness.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 19/12/2020 14:54

I have several US friends going to St Lucia over New Year's Eve. They're flying in from places with high Covid rates and where people aren't bothering to wear masks or socially distance.

All they have to do is get a negative PCR test 7 days before travel, so it's one of the easier places for them to get to.

IIRC you don't have to wear masks in your hotel in St Lucia, so you'll be mixing with people like them, who will be unmasked and fairly likely to bring the virus with them.

It's not the flight you should be worrying about IMO - it's the hotels.
