To cancel a trip to St Lucia?

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:26

We have booked a holiday to St Lucia from 28 dec to 6 jan, but wondering whether we should still go ahead. What would you do?
We are in a tier 3 area if that makes a difference..
all flights and hotels refundable at the moment..

I'm feeling a bit nervous about being on a flight and catching COVID but equally I would love to go on a beach to get some sunshine!

DD just got back from St Lucia on Wednesday - they went with TUI. Had an amazing time, and they went on several excursions. They had to have a Covid test 5 days before they went, and had to take a certificate as proof. But they said it was very relaxed everywhere, didn't have to wear masks in the hotel etc. They loved it and can't wait to go back.

speakout · 19/12/2020 14:59

Selfish.

cherrypie790 · 19/12/2020 15:00

They also said that the hotel was using alternate rooms; had reduced the sun loungers etc accordingly, and you had to book times for restaurants. The hotel was 50% full and they aren't going over that - this was a Royalton all inclusive. They also said it was around 80% Brits, and the rest were American tourists.

@PerveenMistry

I work with an immunologist medical doctor of 40 years experience; he trained under Dr Fauci.

Just yesterday he advised us not to travel under any circumstances.

Will you travel company let you postpone without losing $$?

Immunologist medical doctors would encourage all of us to hide away in our homes, never going out, for a couple of years at least, to reduce spread of not just this virus, but any virus in the future. People need actual legal authority and accountability for their decisions to give binding advice, we live in a democracy.

Its legal, I would go if its booked.

emilyfrost · 19/12/2020 15:03

YABU. I think if you’re insisting on going you shouldn’t be expecting any help if you get into trouble out there is. unable to get back or catching Covid.

MotheringShites · 19/12/2020 15:09

I can’t believe you had the guts to ask this on MN! You’ll be accused of all sorts of murderous intentions.

I’m currently in Dubai and I didn’t feel the need to ask permission from the self-righteous MN STFAC brigade. I assessed the situation, it’s allowed within the rules and the Dubai tourist authority are positively welcoming visitors. I’m sipping wine looking at the sea in my swimsuit. It’s bliss.

You should go. Incidentally we were at Sugar Beach a couple of years ago for NYE. It was wonderful!

NiceGerbil · 19/12/2020 15:13

If you want to go then go.

NiceGerbil · 19/12/2020 15:14

I would.

Just fyi - this is what we're doing with our hotels here in the US including one where DH has recently been working.

It's not working - DH has been exposed 3 times in the last week. At this point they're really struggling to find enough staff to keep the hotel open as so many people are either out sick or quarantining.

I'm in one of the states with the lowest Covid rates.

Jubaju · 19/12/2020 15:38

If you’re in an area likely to go in tier 4 then international travel will be banned anyway :(

chopc · 19/12/2020 15:42

Lucky you! Why would you not go? Go for it!

ginislife · 19/12/2020 15:43

I tried to book to go on 27th and the travel agent I usually use closed down the conversation as she said we'd need tests 72 hours before we went which would be Xmas Eve and I'm assuming you can't get the results back so it's not happening. I so need a holiday !!!!! Fuck COVID.

merlotormalbec · 19/12/2020 15:45

If it's refundable I'd have a refund. I have family in St Lucia and there's a lot of cases

DianaT1969 · 19/12/2020 15:58

Go!! Are you mad? Go!

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 19/12/2020 16:06

I can see that it’s tempting to go, but I think travel restrictions are so changing rapidly that you might not be able to.

I’m in the US and our state’s governor has just announced new travel and quarantining restrictions - and Boris is making an announcement today.

RuggerHug · 19/12/2020 16:09

I'm going to be accused of being a dramatic bitch here but check your insurance for repatriation costs being covered. If not, serious discussion with your DH about whether you'd want the other to have huge debt to pay of for the rest of their lives or if you'd rather be buried there. Same for what happens if you're ok but the DC get it. With the speed of regulations and what's 'legal' changing ask yourself what the worst case scenario is once you land and if it's worth it or you'd prefer to wait until later in the year.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/12/2020 16:10

I'd go but be aware the fco advice on travel corridors can change at any moment , make sure you have a very good travel insurance

Clymene · 19/12/2020 16:17

Oh well looks like your holiday won't be happening

smalalalalalala · 19/12/2020 16:21

Are you now in tier 4?

Ladylimpet · 19/12/2020 16:23

Looks like the decision is out of your hands now op.
Thankfully.

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 16:29

I think we will be cancelling now as looks like international travel will be cancelled Sad

OP posts:
rhowton · 19/12/2020 16:30

100% go and enjoy

crosstalk · 19/12/2020 18:48

OP sad for your dashed plans - we'd all like to get away. For all those who said go for it ... you can always quarantine and WFH coming back - I'd be among those saying it's not just a risk to you (with little A&E and ITU provision on the island) but to the island itself which one PP with relatives there says has already got Covid cases.

JustDanceAddict · 19/12/2020 18:50

Not if you can get a full refund. St Lucia isn’t going anywhere.

Rockpooler · 19/12/2020 22:53

OP a tip for who is if this is helpful. NA waived the change fee for us if we left the flights- so we've not asked for a refund on 4 transatlantic flights and have 4 prepaid for future use. We didn't need the £1300 so it was a good option for us as it allowed us to retain our two companion vouchers which would have timed out.
