To cancel a trip to St Lucia?

holidayoncorona · 19/12/2020 12:26

We have booked a holiday to St Lucia from 28 dec to 6 jan, but wondering whether we should still go ahead. What would you do?
We are in a tier 3 area if that makes a difference..
all flights and hotels refundable at the moment..

I'm feeling a bit nervous about being on a flight and catching COVID but equally I would love to go on a beach to get some sunshine!

OP posts:
Delatron · 19/12/2020 12:45

Sounds like you are doing everything you can then. If you feel like you can enjoy it then I’d go.

NoSquirrels · 19/12/2020 12:46
@NoSquirrels the St Lucian government is actively encouraging tourists as their economy is screwed due to lack of tourism
Indeed. It's a shit time for all tourism-based economies.

But as I say, up to you, isn't it? My opinion on it makes no odds (along with the rest of MN!)

EileenGC · 19/12/2020 12:47

I'd go! Even though the 7 days test window looks a bit risky to me... But the risk is still tiny. What are the Covid measures like in St Lucia? Do you trust there will be social distancing/extra hygiene at the hotel you're visiting?

I'm flying tomorrow and it's not for a holiday, but I can't wait for a change of scenery. Flying isn't as risky as some people seem to think. Speaking from recent experience here.

TheCrowsHaveEyes · 19/12/2020 12:47

@holidayoncorona

No quarantine from St Lucia as it's in the travel corridor Wink
Ah, sorry, I just checked the government website and it said you'd probably need to quarantine. Confused
Moondust001 · 19/12/2020 12:49

@JustLikeStitch

Selfish and stupid as hell to go on holiday right now.
And why is that exactly? There is every possibility that doing so is safer than staying at home and going to the supermarket. If the OP adheres to the rules and to common sense guidance, then there is no reason not to go, and lots of reasons to go. Sunshine and holidays improve wellbeing, and that boosts the immune system and enhances mental and physical health. If there was a guarantee of anything by staying at home, it might be worth considering, but, as I said, there is as much chance of catching it at home as tere is going away. I'd go in a flash.
SoupDragon · 19/12/2020 12:50

It's not just about catching it though, it's about passing it on.

NoSauce · 19/12/2020 12:52

I’d go, but I would take a test 3 days before not 7.

JustLikeStitch · 19/12/2020 12:53

@Moondust001 because they’re risking taking Covid with them both there and back? Because a test 7 days before a flight does not equate to no one on the flight having caught it in the 7 days between negative result and flight? Because were in the middle of a god damned pandemic and if everyone would stop being bloody selfish stupid pricks we’d have it under control by bone?

JustLikeStitch · 19/12/2020 12:53

Now*

Biffbaff · 19/12/2020 12:54

So many threads like this atm:

OP: Aibu to flout guidelines?
MN response: Yes
OP: But I want to!

OP you obviously want to go. Your choice. Fingers crossed you don't get covid or give it to someone, which is the name of the game right now.

Emmie12345 · 19/12/2020 12:55

I’d go def

OhWhyNot · 19/12/2020 12:56

The more we move about the more the virus has the potential to spread thats how it works If that doesn’t concern you as so many others are going on holiday then that’s your choice

The only thing I guess you have to consider that things are constantly changing you might have to self isolate on your return and there may be very tight restrictions while you are there

wheresmyhairytoe · 19/12/2020 12:56

Utterly selfish to go. We're in the middle of a global pandemic.
We'd all like a holiday but it won't kill you to not go this year.

Plonque · 19/12/2020 12:57

I'd probably go but I would be isolating properly beforehand.
Do you plan to mix with anyone at Christmas?

Yeah, name calling and ranting is soooo adult. It's hysteria that is driving the agendas at the moment. Leave people to make their own decisions. The OP is doing something that is entirely lawful and which carries no greater risk than staying in place. If you want to hide in a hole and never come out, that's fine. But ranting insults as your sole contribution is infantile and childish. Go back to curtain twitching.

Delatron · 19/12/2020 12:59

They take a risk spreading COVID down the local Tesco. Planes are actually quite low risk. I researched it over the summer.

There’s many people on here telling the OP to go for it so it really isn’t a collective no.

I don’t agree with ‘it’s selfish to travel in a pandemic’ . Why? St Lucia want and need the business.

doctorhamster · 19/12/2020 13:00

I wouldn't go. I think it's absolutely nuts that anyone is allowed to travel anywhere at the moment.

Delatron · 19/12/2020 13:01

Moving about spreads COVID 😂. Well let’s all sit at home for a year then...

It’s perfectly legal to go there right now. Lots of jealous people on this thread I think...

Elfieishere · 19/12/2020 13:02

Go! I’d love to be going to St Lucia.

Iv even been looking up which countries I can fly too and not quarantine once back.

Enjoy.

cologne4711 · 19/12/2020 13:03

So if you're in tier three you are not allowed to travel over the border into a tier two area (eg to meet someone outside for a run) but you can go on holiday to St Lucia? Well that makes perfect sense Angry

EileenGC · 19/12/2020 13:03

Exactly. The risk is very, very low. I've taken close to 20 flights since March. As long as there are precautions and common sense is used before and during the trip, it really isn't a big risk.
THisbackwithavengeance · 19/12/2020 13:05

A lot of sour grapes on this thread, I think.

OP, you would be absolutely off your trolley not to go due to unfounded anxiety on your part. You would be even more off your trolley if you let the doom and gloom mob on here stop you going.

It's in the travel corridor so therefore it is allowed. End of.

St Lucia?

Yes please.

Lockheart · 19/12/2020 13:06

Don't go.

As nice as they are, foreign holidays are a luxury and not a necessity. You won't lose any money and disappointment won't hurt you. It's an entirely selfish want which you can live without. Entirely selfish wants are not in and of themselves bad, but right now there are bigger things to think about than yourself.

Save your money and go another time.

Delatron · 19/12/2020 13:07

Yes @EileenGC so much misinformation on this thread.

tttigress · 19/12/2020 13:07

I would go, you are actually doing At Lucia na favour by allowing their industry to still operate
