Trump was on a speaker phone so his "yes men" like Meadows and lawyer Cleta Mitchell could listen in and contribute.
General consensus seems to be that Raffsperger taped it once he realised how dangerous the convo was and needed to protect himself. Georgia has "one party consent " law allowing recording phone calls with only one of the participant's agreement/agreement.

Even if Raffensperger had agreed to flip Georgia's result Trump still wouldn't have enough electoral votes.

maggie exactly. I remember Watergate and how shocking it all was, and the action taken. Yet Trump seems to get away with anything and everything. He coerces, pressures and threatens.

I can't even begin to imagine if Obama had done something even remotely like this... the outcry.

No doubt McEejit et al are going to suggest we are misinterpreting what he said and may even rely on their old trick of claiming that he was simply being sarcastic.

An hour haranguing someone is a mighty long time for a minor distraction....

I don't have any faith left that those who have supported Trump will be moved by this and as for the man himself, he has no shame, he will again state that the call was perfect and his followers will agree.

Trump believes what he is selling and is so convincing of it and those senators who will stand for him in the house and senet see it as a tactical move. They will still be with him.

Buckle up fokes, there's more left in the trump show.

Could that tape be interpreted as asking Raffensberger to commit a crime ('find' votes)? Sure. Did Scrotus sound as if he was threatening him with ruining his career? Yep.

But Scrotus, as ever, stays 1mm on 'this side' of the line. He never says "Find me those votes, or else" or "Lie about/falsify those votes". It's the same tactic he always uses; indirection and supposition. He states his objective in a roundabout way (I heard, they say) and then suggests the person 'look into that'. Plausible deniability; "I didn't tell them to do that. Not my fault if they misinterpreted my statements". The closest he's come this time is in giving the specific number of votes he's wanting 'found'.

Will anything be done? Nope. He's too close to the exit door now and I think they don't want to give him any more 'publicity' than they have to. If there was video of him shoving a gun into Raffensberger's face and saying "Gimme those votes or else!" it would be one thing. But I think they aren't going to want a protracted court case where inordinate amounts of time are going to be spent on parsing out his words and their possible meaning.

Yes, I agree. I remember us discussing Trump's language a while ago.

His inarticulation might be a crafty and indirect way of pressuring someone to do something, or simply a reflection of his cognitive decline, but such idiosyncracies also make it very difficult to pin anything on him.

And what he says is nothing new - he has tweeted about all this before. The tapes are not a smoking gun (or is that smocking)

The low-lifes that are still supporting him are going to be worried about the security of their phone calls.
