Before the count of electoral votes takes place, every newly elected member should be asked "were you elected in a valid vote in November?"
If yes, take your seat but you can't vote down Biden electors.
If no, you can't take your seat.

Schmidt isn't always accurate, though. In another tweet he wrote
"(Josh) Hawley graduated from Stanford and Yale Law School. He taught at Oxford and clerked for the Chief Justice of the United States."

Hawley may have been a secondary school teacher for a year at St Paul's School, London (Wikipedia says he was, though I can't find evidence anywhere else and there is nobody answering the phone at St Paul's this weekend, no surprise there), but as far as I can find out he never taught at Oxford.

(You need to be really careful when you point out someone's flaws, because if you are even the least bit inaccurate people on his side will use that to say that you're wrong about the whole lot, not merely about a fiddling and unimportant detail.)

I am interested to see if and how the GOP comes back from this, beyond those who are involved in the Lincoln Project, what will the post-Trump party look like and how much will survive.

Pavlovitz and other Christians who have resisted Trump also have their work cut out.

I don't think the majority of the GOP is interested in actually 'coming back' from anything. They may be interested in looking like they are, but that's not the same thing.

The runoff is 5 Jan and the joint session is 6 Jan. To get the count finalized & certified and the winners sworn in and then get them to DC in time is going to interesting to watch.

As nearly always, my native state manages to make its politics a bit more complicated.

The results of the Georgia run-off won't be certified by Jan 6. Perdue's term ends Jan 3 so he won't be participating in the Jan 6 vote even if he is the apparent winner of his race. Loeffler's term continues until the results of her race are certified (because she was appointed to a vacancy due to resignation of a senator whose term was not scheduled to expire until 2023). So even if Warnock is the apparent winner, Loeffler will be Georgia's only senator on Jan 6.

Whoever leaked that is brave. And may actually care about the constitution.

There's a glorious illogic to Trump. “Because of what you’ve done to the president, a lot of people aren’t going out to vote, and a lot of Republicans are going to vote negative, because they hate what you did to the president. Okay? They hate it. And they’re going to vote."

So how exactly are they (who "they"?) going to "vote negative"? By voting Democrat to spite the Governor?
