Just that. Am curious to see what MNers would do if offered.

YANBU - I WOULD have the vaccine.

YABU - I WOULD NOT have the vaccine.

Am 40. NHS worker. Healthy and low risk.

I'll have it as soon as I can.

chubbycheeks26 · 17/12/2020 16:29

Not yet.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 17/12/2020 16:31

Yep I'd have it.

fibeee · 17/12/2020 16:32

If I wasn’t currently breastfeeding then I 100% would

TheAirbender · 17/12/2020 16:33

Here in the UAE we can have the Sinopharm one. That I’m am waiting and watching on. The Pfizer one I’d roll my sleeve straight up for!!

Parker231 · 17/12/2020 16:34

I would expect all health care staff to have it when offered as compulsory. This would reduce the risk of transmission to patients either in hospitals, care homes or attending a doctors surgery.

RandomLondoner · 17/12/2020 16:39

I don't blame people for being a little bit nervous of a new vaccine that's being suddenly administered to the whole population. It's easy to imagine how that could go wrong. It may have been tested, but it doesn't have the long-term safety record of the usual childhood vaccines.

Personally, I'm more afraid of Covid than I am of the vaccine, I'll take it as soon as I can get it. (I probably match Boris, as far as risk goes. I don't want to go where he has been.)

Twospaniels · 17/12/2020 16:39

Yes I will have the vaccine, however I have allergies and carry an epipen so may need to wait for another brand and miss the pfizer one they are using now.

Mulhollandmagoo · 17/12/2020 16:43

@DawnWar

That is an amazing picture!!! got a lump in my throat!

wanderings · 17/12/2020 16:44

Much as I loathe the bunch of clowns we are saddled with, and wouldn’t be at all surprised if it turns out in years to come it’s not a vaccine, or that the placebo and the vaccines got mixed up, this is one leap of faith I do intend to make. I have heard comments such as “they haven’t found a vaccine for AIDS and many other things - how did we get this one so quickly?”, which does give pause for thought.

Mulhollandmagoo · 17/12/2020 16:45

Oh, and I will, but I am mid 30's and low risk, so I think I'm very far down the list :-( Its nice to see so many people will be having it though, if this thread is a cross section then its looking likely we'll have enough uptake to reach herd immunity. Its also the least hostile thread I've seen on the topic too which is lovely to read

Matchsticklady · 17/12/2020 16:51

I can't as I have a serious allergy :( and apparently they're not advising it now due to the recent allergic reactions that have happened. But if I could I would!

thereplycamefromanchorage · 17/12/2020 16:52

Absolutely, would do it.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 17/12/2020 16:53

Definitely if I wasn't pregnant. If they said it was ok when pg I'd be first in line!

ancientgran · 17/12/2020 16:53

That would only make sense if they were vaccinating the least vulnerable first. Which they are not.

That's the whole point of doing it in the order they are, so that the most vulnerable are less likely to either become infected, or have significantly milder symptoms

I hadn't thought of it before but locally care home staff are getting it but residents aren't, so it sounds like that could put the residents at risk? Although the staff are having weekly tests so I suppose that helps, I hope so anyway.

I've got a relative in a care home in another area and the staff and residents are having it the same day which presumably is better.

ancientgran · 17/12/2020 16:54

Sorry, obviously residents will be getting it but staff are getting it first, dates aren't out yet for residents.

ButtonMeUpButtercup · 17/12/2020 16:55

Without a doubt. Clean water and vaccinations have a major effect on public health.

Mindymomo · 17/12/2020 16:56

Yes, myself and everyone I know will be having it asap.

ancientgran · 17/12/2020 16:56

I have heard comments such as “they haven’t found a vaccine for AIDS and many other things - how did we get this one so quickly?”, which does give pause for thought. I guess it's money, they've thrown alot of money at it.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 17/12/2020 16:57

@wanderings I read somewhere that they've been researching coronavirus vaccines for years, so much of the initial groundwork was done, it just required more investment.

No other illness has affected the global population in this way. If everyone suddenly got AIDS and it ground the economy to a halt, I do believe treatment research would accelerate enormously.

Mrsemcgregor · 17/12/2020 16:57

@ancientgran

Sorry, obviously residents will be getting it but staff are getting it first, dates aren't out yet for residents.
I think this is purely because of the logistics of storing the vaccine. They can’t deliver it direct too care homes and they don’t want the care home residents traipsing to hospitals. The best they can do in the mean time is vaccinate the staff.
BetterthanIthink · 17/12/2020 16:58

Yep, as soon as they say I can I’m having it ! I wonder if as soon as it gets to the healthy under 50’s they will put it out to the private sector like having to pay for a flu jab ?

follygirl · 17/12/2020 16:58

Yes I would

randomchap · 17/12/2020 16:58

Already had the vaccine. Or at least a 50% chance of having it. I'm on one of the trials.

Absolutely no side affects, feeling 100% fit.

TreacleHart · 17/12/2020 16:59

Put it this way , I'm a passive person but I'd fight you for the opportunity !
