Just that. Am curious to see what MNers would do if offered.

YANBU - I WOULD have the vaccine.

YABU - I WOULD NOT have the vaccine.

Am 40. NHS worker. Healthy and low risk.

I'm impressed that you're getting it this soon at your age and with low risk. I'm a HCP and we have no idea at all at the moment about when it will be rolled out to staff. I'd have it in a heartbeat.

GreenWheat · 17/12/2020 17:03

I don't care what people choose to do either way, as long as long term I am not expected to disrupt my life to protect those who could have had it but didn't. Personally I would have it.

PetraRabbit · 17/12/2020 17:05

No because I'm 45 and still open to having another baby (Yes, it's not a high likelihood but I had one at 44 so not impossible). "Unknown effects on fertility" as stated on government website make it a no for me. Also still breastfeeding. Wouldn't take it anyway as the very few people in my age and risk group who've had Covid have had nothing much more than a cold really. Once it's been around 5 years and we have a better idea about long term effects I'd consider it. I'd probably have it if I were in my mid 80s.

warmandtoasty2day · 17/12/2020 17:06

must admit i'm nervous [in 6th group for vaccine] but at least would have seen how it pans out.

Sniv · 17/12/2020 17:07

Yes, please. I'd love the peace of mind.

needabus · 17/12/2020 17:07

No as I react badly to vaccines
But if I didn’t I would. My dc had to have their childhood imms in hospital each time as one reacted like me but they completed the schedule (eventually!)

wildraisins · 17/12/2020 17:07

Yes I would have it.

Anyone who has ever had a vaccination or even trusted a doctor to prescribe medication has no more reason to mistrust the COVID vaccine.

Don’t listen to the ridiculous conspiracies. It is absolutely fine.

baublesbaubleseverywhere · 17/12/2020 17:09

@Sushirolls can I ask why you've refused consent for your DM? I'm assuming if you need to consent on her behalf, then she's in a high risk category and covid would be very dangerous for her? Does she not agree / believe in vaccines?

wildraisins · 17/12/2020 17:09

Sorry but that is utterly daft reason not to have it. It’s only unknown because they haven’t studied it yet - they are not saying there’s any known risk.

I mean, eating a food you’ve never tried before could have unknown effects on fertility but it wouldn’t stop you???

I am TTC and will be having it.

frosted232 · 17/12/2020 17:14

Not personally because of allergies but maybe if the Oxford vaccine is approved and safe for people like me I'd consider.

Audreyseyebrows · 17/12/2020 17:15

I don’t understand people saying that they would have it if they were nhs but if not they wouldn’t?
Why?

BeenHereForAges · 17/12/2020 17:15

Absolutely. I'll be there asap.

GinnieHempstock · 17/12/2020 17:15

I’m 50 and a HCW.
I’ve already had mine.
☺️

Almostslimjim · 17/12/2020 17:16

I am TTC and will be having it.

That's stupid. It clearly says do not have if pregnant or trying to conceive in the next 3 months.

It's why I am not having it.

Parker231 · 17/12/2020 17:17

Am waiting to hear whether you will need a vaccination certificate to travel in the same way as certain countries require for things like yellow fever. I can’t imagine countries are going to take a risk of the virus coming back into their country from travellers

UserEleventyNine · 17/12/2020 17:17

I think this is purely because of the logistics of storing the vaccine. They can’t deliver it direct too care homes and they don’t want the care home residents traipsing to hospitals.

Yes, I've just been looking up arrangements in an NHS Trust where I have family and they say care home staff are being invited to attend hospitals or GPs to get the jab, but they're looking for ways to take it to the residents in the home.

Apart from the risk of infection, the logistical challenge of bringing care home residents to a clinic would be significant, and perhaps quite distressing for some of them.

ChristmasinJune · 17/12/2020 17:19

They could phone me at midnight and I'd be there!! Yes absolutely.

Ardnassa · 17/12/2020 17:20

Would do it with bells on. Mid 30s and low risk so back of the queue. I walk past my local vaccination hub most days and am very envious.

Sadik · 17/12/2020 17:21

Yes, if they'll give it me - allergy sufferer & carry an epipen but have reached my 50s without ever having to actually use it.

(I'm tempted to keep very quiet about the allergies if I'm offered the jab since I've never ever reacted to a vaccine - my epipen is for very specific allergy to agricultural chemicals. But will no doubt actually 'fess up in reality before I get shouted at.)

Sadik · 17/12/2020 17:21

I've offered to drive my dad anywhere in the country if he's offered an appointment!

VinylDetective · 17/12/2020 17:22

@Sushirolls

I said no when offered, and have refused consent for my DM also.
Why did you refuse consent for your mum? Presumably she’s over 80 and extremely vulnerable?
PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 17/12/2020 17:26

Just back to say I've had it!

Got given a little card with all the details on (for when I get stopped by the Stasi!) and will have second dose in 3 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies. Very interesting reading.

Wow 90% for 10% against. I would have it even if it was shot by an arrow into my arse. 😀

TheFairyCaravan · 17/12/2020 17:30

DS2 and DDIL had their’s on Monday. They’re both nurses and couldn’t wait to get it done.

I’d love to have it, too tbh

kayhylton · 17/12/2020 17:31

YABU - i dont blame other for wanting it but my body doesn't do well with things being added, its so bad that even in pregnancy i suffer from HG... Always end up very sick the moment anything foreign is in my body. I wouldnt know how long it would take to settle in my body.
