I'm due to have the vaccine in an hour. Would you?

Just that. Am curious to see what MNers would do if offered.

YANBU - I WOULD have the vaccine.

YABU - I WOULD NOT have the vaccine.

Am 40. NHS worker. Healthy and low risk.

HNRTT but atm vaccinating in care homes is problematic in the UK as the Pfizer vaccine has kinetic stability issues so in primary care, it is being delivered at PCN hubs (one location amongst a group of GPs). It's slightly problematic as the numbers of ambulatory over 80s even across a PCN isn't large and the vaccine doses when diluted number almost 1000 and the agreement is punitive to GP surgeries if all vaccines are not used. The person who decided to incentivise GPs for usage while not considering that the population of ambulatory over-80s, even over-75s, might not require the minimum, large numbers of doses, before even thinking of the numbers of DNAs, declining to be vaccinated and so on.

Care homes will either require the Oxford vaccine or confirmation from Pfizer that the virus is kinetically stable after defrosting and diluting.

Kendodd · 17/12/2020 17:31

Just rereading your op.

The only thing that would make me consider not having it would be if the vaccine then went to somebody who might need to be protected more than me and that if I had it, they would have to wait longer.

Carriemac · 17/12/2020 17:34

I've had the privilege of having it last week as I'm NHS staff over 50- was quite an emotional
Moment it's been such a shit year at work and this is the light at the end of the tunnel

bearlyactive · 17/12/2020 17:37

@user1498572889

Wow 90% for 10% against. I would have it even if it was shot by an arrow into my arse. 😀
And the reward for sentence of the year goes to....! Grin Grin

@baublesbaubleseverywhere

@Sushirolls can I ask why you've refused consent for your DM? I'm assuming if you need to consent on her behalf, then she's in a high risk category and covid would be very dangerous for her? Does she not agree / believe in vaccines

Is this how it's going to be from now on? Pushy people trying to scare and guilt-trip others into having/consenting to the vaccine?

iolaus · 17/12/2020 17:40

Just had my appointment through for Saturday

Was a little annoyed that the non patient facing managers all had theirs yesterday whereas I think it should be patient facing first but they are coming through

My first Yellow Fever was into my buttock! We were slightly taken aback, but it didn't hurt.

My SiL took a "dementia mostly" mother to have her first jab this week at the local surgery. Everything else in the surgery was closed (maybe drs were working from home?) and one poor nurse was doing the jabs. The place was full of vulnerable elderly, each with at least one carer. They spent 90 minutes there.

Contrast that to the drive-thru flu vaccines DH and I had done last week (an army of administrators and first aiders and a couple of pharmacists whose sole job was to administer the jab itself). All done and dusted in 15 minutes without leaving the car and mixing. We could have done without the downpour, but I guess it was additional protection.

AgeLikeWine · 17/12/2020 17:41

Yes, of course I would and the sooner the better.

trulydelicious · 17/12/2020 17:42

@Parker231

Am waiting to hear whether you will need a vaccination certificate to travel in the same way as certain countries require for things like yellow fever

Please stop trying to manipulate others - it's not working. Each of us should be (and are) making our own decisions

FourTeaFallOut · 17/12/2020 17:44

It's a just a question trulydelicious. Surely people are robust enough to answer or ignore?

trulydelicious · 17/12/2020 17:45

@VinylDetective

Why did you refuse consent for your mum? Presumably she’s over 80 and extremely vulnerable

Another pushy and manipulative post, sorry

Sushirolls · 17/12/2020 17:46

Because neither my DSis or I, would touch it with a barge pole. Why would we inject our DM with something, we wouldn't accept ourselves?

Zilla1 · 17/12/2020 17:47

'Everything else in the surgery was closed (maybe drs were working from home?)' - as in England it's being delivered at a PCN level, we plan to use a previously dormant building so it doesn't impact on day to day services.

Yes, but I don't see the same level of intrusion and manipulation aimed at posters who say that are willing to have the vaccine. Its' all cheering and frenzied clapping

Will those who won't take it have to endure this abuse from now on?

FourTeaFallOut · 17/12/2020 17:49

This is not abuse! Don't be such a fucking drama queen.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/12/2020 17:53

You know, that's too harsh. In my head that rolled off the tongue in a fairly relaxed way and written it looks like a battle cry Blush

I don't think questions can be construed as abuse. That's what I meant to say.

Zilla1 · 17/12/2020 17:54

Am mildly surprised by the 'surgery closed and nurse on her own' but won't presume bad faith. I'd need to check but think in England, it's a requirement for a GP to be on site when the vaccinations are delivered in primary.

mandarinpink · 17/12/2020 17:56

I live overseas and had mine yesterday. Many friends and acquaintances here have had it too.

Tiggerdig · 17/12/2020 17:58

Would totally have it and I will when offered.
I would also stop breast feeding to have it if my baby was over 6 months ( not that I fed that long). I’m sure that wouldn’t be a popular view however.

ThatDamnKrampus · 17/12/2020 17:58

In a heart beat.

I thought I would be in the CV group (not the CEV) as that is where I was up until now but apparently I won't get the vaccine in the CV (group 6) as I only have a low dose steroid inhaler and my ventolin. I am gutted (I'm 41, obese and asthmatic) as I don't know now when I will get it.

MiddlesexGirl · 17/12/2020 17:58

Yep. Civic duty as a healthy person to help protect those who are unable to have it. Like everything there is sure to be a risk but no greater than being run over by a bus.

UserEleventyNine · 17/12/2020 18:00

I suppose s/he could have been on site without being visible to patients? Doing useful things in another room unless s/he was wanted.

Zilla1 · 17/12/2020 18:03

Here, the previously dormant PCN site will be staffed on a rotating basis across the PCN's individual surgeries. Haven't decided whether the GPs will cover remote consults from their day job while nurses vaccinate. Would be efficient if IT in the location allows.

VinylDetective · 17/12/2020 18:03

Someone who clearly doesn’t understand the meaning of abuse.

BlueSkies2020 · 17/12/2020 18:04

Why wouldn’t you have it?!
