To find drag queens offensive?

AIBU to find drag queens really bloody offensive?

I hate the term offensive, it’s bandied around far too often at far too insignificant things (am aware this may be one of them). BUT, men dressing up as some fetishised version of a man made ideal of a woman really pisses me off. Hyper hair, max make up, drink in hand, revealing clothes.

I do not know a single woman like that. It riles me and I feel like I’m unable to express it as women have lost so much of their space to LGBTQ+ community (I perceive this, I don’t say it as a fact).
potential bomb drop alert but if white people are taken down (rightly IMO) for ‘blacking up’ should it be acceptable for men to parody women in the form of drag queens.

Ps- I do not buy for one minute that they are celebrating the female form with balloon breasts. It feels more like a piss take.

Also calling trans people and drag queens freakery is fucking disgusting in itself but bet nobody picks up on that and quietly lets it slide.

Wheresmykimchi · 13/12/2020 20:58

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'same as there's no reasoning with a cohort on this board who seem to think females are an endangered species'

No more endangered than, say, gay men and we don't celebrate and whoop about homophobia do we? I mean it exists of course but there aren't telly series with people doing impersonations of gay men are there?

We can't offend the menz but women are open season, as always.

For the 30th time , yes there are programmes that rip the absolute piss out of gay people and also people who write to soaps in their hundreds to complain about having gay men on the telly. We just don't get up in arms about that cause its men , and men can protect themselves.

@Defenbaker I stopped watching the BBC a year ago. All this supposedly new norm to me is getting boring! Keep it simple, male and female. And femine males and masculine females. Easy. Two sexes.

Quaagars · 13/12/2020 20:59

That's an offensive shit plop, but apparently they slide without question.

Wheresmykimchi · 13/12/2020 20:59

@BrumBoo

trans is the 3rd gender

Third sex, which is also what they're trying to call intersex people (much to the anger of many people who have intersex medical conditions). There are hundreds of gender identities now, hence adding the + to LGBT. And you're a bigot if you think any of them are ridiculous.

Not a bigot , just downright homophobic.

Ps it's LGBTQI+

Yeah they're OK.

Yeh that's great that.

Tell that to the many , many people affected by the suicide rate of young transgender people k wonder why they feel like that Hmm

Third gender.

Being transgender (clues in the name ) isn't the same.

Third sex is indeed intersex , cause it's about , you know, their gender.

Wheresmykimchi · 13/12/2020 21:02

Not sure how we got to transgender though , as that's not what drag queens are. I suppose we were missing a bit of transphobe chat.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 13/12/2020 21:02

I wish the pp's drag queen pal would come along to 'make mincemeat of us' Grin maybe they could do an AMA?

Nice second attempt to suggest they implied violence.

They said they'd make mincemeat of your comments. Ie, rip them apart.

You know , like you do.

BrumBoo · 13/12/2020 21:06

Third sex is indeed intersex , cause it's about , you know, their gender.

Absolutely everything in this sentence is wrong and ignorant as fuck. There is no third sex, gender and sex are not interchangeable and intersex is a biological feature not a gender one.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 13/12/2020 21:08

'They said they'd make mincemeat of your comments'

No chance Grin.

Apologies , in my haste I wrote gender instead of sex at the end of the sentence.

Il start again.

Intersex is the third sex.

Transgender is the third gender , because it's about their gender. Transgender people can't be the third sex because it's about you know , their gender.

That's what I meant to write.

Although I'm sure you will still call me ignorant as fuck.

No chance Grin.

Be that as it may , that's not the same of making mincemeat of you is it.
laudemio · 13/12/2020 21:12

No such thing as intersex, they are now referred to as differences of sexual development. Please stop bringing this group of people into these discussions. It has nothing to do with them. Third sex does not exist.
But back on track drag is offensive

BrumBoo · 13/12/2020 21:13

You are ignorant because you are still calling intersex people a third sex. They are not. They have the biological features of both sexes. That does not make them a new 'third sex'. There is no such thing as a third sex.

Transgender is one of many gender choices. They don't come in any particular list order, and there are many tonpick from these days.

Il accept the lesson re transex - but transgender is not a choice.

Noted. Thank you

Not read all of thread - too long.

Agree with OP - have always seen drag as demeaning women, and only just recently linked it with 'blacking up', as so deeply offensive.
Never articulated this in RL as yet.

I don't believe anyone would make the comparison in real life.

What world do you have to be inhabiting "up there" to think that is actual violence though - making mincemeat out of a worded argument isn't literal violence as some posters seemed to think!
You as well by the looks of it

laudemio · 13/12/2020 21:20

You keep saying that Kimchi but never explain why.

That is the only poster who thinks it. Detracts from the perfectly reasonable argument made that was totally ignored.

Explain why what?
