To find drag queens offensive?

MrsMummy500 · 12/12/2020 18:39

AIBU to find drag queens really bloody offensive?

I hate the term offensive, it’s bandied around far too often at far too insignificant things (am aware this may be one of them). BUT, men dressing up as some fetishised version of a man made ideal of a woman really pisses me off. Hyper hair, max make up, drink in hand, revealing clothes.

I do not know a single woman like that. It riles me and I feel like I’m unable to express it as women have lost so much of their space to LGBTQ+ community (I perceive this, I don’t say it as a fact).
potential bomb drop alert but if white people are taken down (rightly IMO) for ‘blacking up’ should it be acceptable for men to parody women in the form of drag queens.

Ps- I do not buy for one minute that they are celebrating the female form with balloon breasts. It feels more like a piss take.

'This is the big issue emerging in this thread. That people don't see sexism, misogyny and sex-based stereotypes are as 'bad' or harmful as racism of homophobia'

Yes! women shut up as a pp dismissively said.

Smallgoon · 13/12/2020 20:36

@BrumBoo Do you have anything constructive to add, or do you like popping in to shitplop your 'opinions'

Trying to be constructive in these types of threads is pointless really, would be no different than trying to reason with racist Trump supporters. I guess even transphobes need a safe space to air their 'opinions'.

And to those comparing 'womenface' to 'blackface', no really, I haven't laughed this hard in ages! Grin

Quaagars · 13/12/2020 20:36

Who's said to shut up?!
Genuinely as I haven't seen anyone telling women to shut up on here and I've read the whole thread (I think I have anyway lol)

The irony of that poster talking about posters being silenced.

Ha, that's totally true Grin
I mean you start off with a differing opinion and discussion but it always descends into insults and "wot, are you 10?" and "ooo I'm scared" type comments and it's like WTF, am I back in the school playground" lol and you just kind of give up and resort to their level Grin

Oh dear, more shitplopping. No point conversing with someone who starts shouting 'transphobe' as soon as they hear the word gender in discussion, without any evidence. I'm not American by the way, but Trump was a colossal arsehole (and Biden isn't great either), just FYI Smile.

I've seen several comments from smallgoon on the thread.
Have a read of it and you may see for yourself.

@wheresmykimchi

The onus is on the group carrying out the oppressive behaviour (in this case: stereotyping, mocking, and degrading humour) against a protected characteristic (in this case, female sex), to stop that behaviour. The onus is not on the latter group to sensitively placate and play nice with the former group.

I didn't say anything about placating.

I am simply saying that the more we divide me and women , the more these groups will grow.

Oh well said. Sadly it will go whooshing over some posters heads on here. Clueless.

Campervan69 · 13/12/2020 20:51

Men punching down at women by mocking them and their uniquely different biology. Horrible. Should have remained in nasty clubs like offensive comedy then at least we can choose to avoid it.

I dont know any women who like drag or seek it out. We just treat it like a bad smell and try to avoid. We are very aware just by being women living in this society that men try to demean us by shite like this. Certainly don't want to see it on the BBC which we fund through our license fee.

I meant in terms of tribalism. There's no reasoning with racists, same as there's no reasoning with a cohort on this board who seem to think females are an endangered species. These threads wouldn't be out of place on Parler if I'm honest.

Just because you don't personally know any doesn't mean there aren't any.

I know a couple.

Very true and completely agree

It doesn't offend me but wtf is it all about !!! Quite rediculous and not something I care to watch.

I'm sick of seeing the trans agenda constantly pushed by the BBC.

Being trans has nothing to do with being a drag queen though?
What's that got to do with anything?
Unless you mean we should all be objecting to trans people being shown on telly too?

But imagine a man called them weak and feeble and in need of protection eh?
GetOffYourHighHorse · 13/12/2020 20:57

'same as there's no reasoning with a cohort on this board who seem to think females are an endangered species'

No more endangered than, say, gay men and we don't celebrate and whoop about homophobia do we? I mean it exists of course but there aren't telly series with people doing impersonations of gay men are there?

We can't offend the menz but women are open season, as always.

By the trans agenda they mean the one week where the strictly dancer danced in female clothing. Oh the horror!
BrumBoo · 13/12/2020 20:58

trans is the 3rd gender

Third sex, which is also what they're trying to call intersex people (much to the anger of many people who have intersex medical conditions). There are hundreds of gender identities now, hence adding the + to LGBT. And you're a bigot if you think any of them are ridiculous.
