To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

548 replies

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:24

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

OP posts:

What a bizarre and strangle hostile couple of posts

And asking for a translation - which I provided because anyone of reasonable intelligence would have understood the pp - wasn’t hostile?

VinylDetective · 15/12/2020 20:59

The panto took place in London. All theatre in London, including panto, has now been halted

It hadn’t then.

So you didn’t need a translation after all? Nobody said foolish was a synonym for ashamed.

dementedma · 15/12/2020 21:50

YABU as panto is toe curlingly cringy shite which no-one should attend unless forced at gunpoint.

Janegrey333 · 15/12/2020 22:04

@StoneofDestiny

No one has said you can’t travel up and down the country if you are working

Neither William or Kate work.

They do.
RosesforMama · 16/12/2020 07:18

As an inhibited person who dislikes being the centre of attention and making small talk with strangers, I certainly consider that the Royals work.

GroundAlmonds · 16/12/2020 09:28

The fact it was a performance for key workers doesn't make the blindest bit of difference. In fact if anything the fact it was for key workers makes it even more inappropriate for Will and Kate to have been there (and their refusal to wear masks on the red carpet totally unacceptable and selfish).

I think the Cambridge’s must believe themselves to be keyworkers at this point. If I’d had a large staff of courtiers telling me it was imperative to the morale of the nation that I make a large number of zoom calls to the public throughout the lockdown, I might have the delusion myself by now.

MariaHairy · 16/12/2020 09:32

You need a job to be working. They don't have a job! and they are certainty not working. That is quite an insult to all the people who go out and actually do work to earn a living.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 16/12/2020 09:40

@MariaHairy

They are working, hence the word 'working royals'. They do plenty of public engagements too. There was more to seeing the pantomime than just taking their children for an evening out. They were showing support for the actors who have spent months without work. The performers probably loved the experience of putting on a pantomime for the royal family.

VinylDetective · 16/12/2020 09:44

The frequently trotted out assertion that they don’t have a job and don’t work is getting very tired now. It’s like saying actors, musicians or performers don’t work and don’t have jobs.

I'm of the position that my kids are usually blase about theatre trips, while to me is a huge treat, so now they're whinging about not being able to go, I tell them maybe in future they'll appreciate it more! Xmas Wink

The royals always have bonkers privileges, I guess a pandemic hasn't changed that!

I freelance. I would never claim to have a job.

I have a skill, a profession, and a business. (Maybe they can lay claim to having a royalling business?)

I sometimes say I have a contract or a booking. (They could say either of those, I suppose?)

MariaHairy · 16/12/2020 10:14

calling them 'working' royals is indeed just a word. Just putting a word in front of something doesn't make it true. HTH

How rude.

The royals have shown how little they actually DO, how insignificant - one would say pointless - their contribution is, and how little they are needed.

Waving once a week, cutting a ribbon and doing a couple of zoom meeting is not "work".

You wouldn't say that Pippa Middleton is a working "royal in law" Grin because she supports 2 charities and shows up once a year. As a working "royal-in-law", that would be insulting. As a private citizen, she does what she wants.

VinylDetective · 16/12/2020 10:45

What’s rude about that?

Fieldofyellowflowers · 16/12/2020 20:13

@MariaHairy

William and Kate do hundreds of public engagements a year as do Charles, princess Anne etc. So they are working. It is not like they are sat about scratching their arses is it?

MariaHairy · 16/12/2020 20:44

It is not like they are sat about scratching their arses is it?

I actually think they largely do. They don't do much. it has become very obvious this year.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 16/12/2020 22:43

@MariaHairy

They couldn't do many engagements because of this thing called covid 19.

Prince Charles did over 500 engagements last year. Kate and William also do hundreds of engagements. Prince William also used to work for the air ambulance before he had to do more royal duties.

Livingtothefull · 16/12/2020 23:26

They don't work hard. The numbers of engagements get bandied around as though it means they do a lot of work but it is meaningless; a typical engagement lasts an hour or less: www.republic.org.uk/hard_working_royals

Fieldofyellowflowers · 16/12/2020 23:37

@Livingtothefull

The engagement may only last an hour, but there is all of the prep, the travel, the working with different charities. A lot of work goes in behind the scenes, carried out by the royals too, not just their staff.

The Duke of Cornwall works hard on his estate, providing opportunity to young farmers. That all takes up time.

The documentary following princess Anne showed that she never stopped either, quite often doing three engagements a day.

Prince William worked for air ambulance. Probably still would be if he hadn't needed to take on more of a royal role. Prince Harry worked in the army and struggled with being limited to what he could do there. So it is really not like they do eff all.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 16/12/2020 23:40

@Livingtonthefull

That is a very anti-monarchy article you've linked too as well. Not exactly a neutral opinion.

Bookworming · 17/12/2020 06:38

@Fieldofyellowflowers yeah it must be a real stress for them getting out the door on time. You know George is home as the school has been shut due to Covid. They've got no childcare as their bubble is Charles and he's off out on the estate. The children are all finishing school on Friday and they're both working up until Christmas Eve, they need to do the food shop but Louis hates that and always causes havoc.

Get a grip, all this "they work very hard".

They are not employed and do not have jobs.

MariaHairy · 17/12/2020 07:29

They've got no childcare as their bubble is Charles

that is the most hilarious thing I have read in the long time. Are people so stupid and believe this nonsense 😂😂😂

Fieldofyellowflowers · 17/12/2020 08:07

@MariaHairy @Livingtothefull

You'd miss the royal family if it were abolished. Or rather, you'd miss the money it brought into the economy.

You are both ignoring the fact that Prince William would probably still be working for air ambulance if he had his way. Or the various stuff that he and Kate did during lockdown.

What kind of jobs do you want the royal family to do anyway? Stack supermarket shelves? Confused

This is brilliant, really made me laugh Grin

Loving the idea they have no help at home, been struggling with WFH and homeschooling and getting Charles' prescriptions etc.

Bookworming · 17/12/2020 08:14

I wouldn't at all!

But he is not and they've had a simple easy lockdown, not homeschooling and balancing work.

What kind of jobs do you want the royal family to do anyway? Stack supermarket shelves?

No, something they're trained for, instead of training for something, costing a fortune and then not doing it.
