To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:24

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

Get off the fucking royal train, stop going round the country spreading God knows what and just STAY THE FUCK AT HOME like we’re all having to. Go and thank people in six months when there’s less chance of killing them

Totally

Santosi · 14/12/2020 07:58

YABU, they have been working incredibly hard this year with their handful of zoom meetings. and now they have to attend a live panto, having to put their DC in danger.

I know it's a performance to honour the NHS heros and I bet it will have be benefitted nurses up and down the country massively that Kate and William showed up with their adorable family.

give them a break.

Loveyourideas · 14/12/2020 08:40

I just saw mm on cnn, thanking heroes. A better way to do it imo than royal trains and pantomimes

Loveyourideas · 14/12/2020 09:09

In general I don’t see why anyone has to publicly thank others for their contributions during the pandemic (unless they are directly involved in funding or managing the efforts). But if people find it ‘uplifting’, far better to do it the way MM did, from her home in a video message. Usually I find these thank you messages quite uncomfortable and patronising, but this was quite sweet and positive.

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/12/2020 10:18

Why can’t they just take their children to a panto.
Theatres and cinemas are open
Santa’s grottos are open (even in tier 3)
Lots of things are open.

If you don’t choose to do anything then that is up to you but stating that you cant do anything because you are in tier 3 is a choice

ssd · 14/12/2020 10:20

I dont think they are being fair or showing themselves in a good light.

They have recently travelled all over Britain and are now at the panto with the kids.

How they feel they are sharing this covid burden, god knows.

Janegrey333 · 14/12/2020 10:23

It wasn’t the best move - or example to show - given that other children are not able to go this year. All a bit unfortunate.

ssd · 14/12/2020 10:24

@StoneofDestiny

We have panto here

Whole country is having a panto what with no deal Brexit and Royal pantomime horses on the loose

Best post here
recededpronunciation · 14/12/2020 10:26

We are in tier 2 and have pantos. Not my cup of tea but jeez, I don’t begrudge anyone going if they are able.

Janegrey333 · 14/12/2020 10:31

Oh okay. Pantomime is not my thing so unaware about what is going on in my area. Still, most children are restricted, I guess, so they are not permitted the same jolly outing.

choli · 14/12/2020 12:12

no Santa experiences
The horror! It's worse than Syria! I am sure your kids will tell their grandchildren about it with tears streaming down their faceHmm

Localocal · 14/12/2020 12:16

I think it's good that they are supporting whatever theatre someone is managing to put on. Our entertainment sector has been decimated and just about every actor and theatre professional is out of work.

I'm in Tier 2 (though probably not for long) and have been going to the cinema while it's open, to try to help them through. Hardly anyone goes now, and there is no way they are covering their costs. And we are taking our three teenagers to a panto even though they are really too old for it, just to try to support it.

So I say if William and Kate want to give panto a bit of a boost that's great.

if you tried to be witty, clever or original, you failed miserably.

But what can you expect from someone who thinks it's hilarious when kids miss out.

are you trying to win the price for the most ridiculous post on this thread? You are nearly there.

If people could do a lot of things, they would.

Only when yours do.

SpudsandGravy · 14/12/2020 12:39

For goodness sake... I'm no supporter of the royal family, but it's obvious to me that K and W were asked to go with their children because so many people love seeing them. It's for the key workers, not for them. This is obvious.

Spidey66 · 14/12/2020 13:19

I'm no fan of royalty, but if it's allowed in your tier let them get on with it.

Loveyourideas · 14/12/2020 13:22

“because so many people love seeing them”

Surely people who love seeing them would be happy to see them working in a kitchen for the homeless.

Royal trains and pantos are about personal fun and self promotion

Santosi · 14/12/2020 14:22

how is this whole circus of any benefits to key workers????

DoreenWinkings · 14/12/2020 14:39

I dont think it was the best thing to do in terms of visuals, though I doubt in reality they had much choice. Theyre PR puppets when all is said and done.

I am always astounded when people in the north of England are surprised that the Government is happy to fuck them over though. When has a Conservative government ever given the tiniest shit about people in the north? This particular one got what it wanted out of you in 2019 - of course they don't care about you now. They won't need anything else from you for another 2-3 years at least!

Theatres and cinemas are not open in tier 3. No indoor entertainment. There are a few outdoor grottos and some light displays.
StoneofDestiny · 14/12/2020 16:57

Now we've got Charles and Camilla wanting to travel to Scotland to stay at Balmoral - geez, have they any sense? People are being told not to travel and being told to stay home............why do they think they should be exempt from that? They are bleating and playing the victim card that they are being 'made to feel unwelcome' by Nicola Sturgeon!

Seriously - these royals need to get a grip on reality.

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/12/2020 17:07

RosesforMama

But London wasn’t in tier 3 so why not and I was responding to the posters that said there was nothing going on and how their children are going to miss out on seeing Father Christmas or going places because they are in tier 3.

RosesforMama · 14/12/2020 17:47

Oliversmumsarmy

Perhaps I misread but it seemed like you were saying people in tier 3 were choosing not to attend pantos, theatres and cinemas. When we can't as they are (almost) all closed.

RasberryRoyale · 14/12/2020 18:00

I’m in tier 3. Pubs, theatres, libraries and cinemas are closed.

The Royals travelling up and down the U.K. when the rest of us are told not to is hypocrisy. It’s not essential. My sister is a doctor and she couldn’t give a fuck if W&K came to her hospital. In her view, it’s helping no one and I have to agree.

Seeing three of the most over privileged children getting access to something thousands of other kids won’t, also stings a bit.
