To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

You’re right I’m aiming my anger at the wrong people. It should be saved for this lot and their complete and utter bullshit!! I particularly like the comment where “the capital because shutting it down would hurt not just Londoners, but 'people across the nation' who depend on the 'wealth and prosperity generated by our great city'.

Because any other wealth generated like jobs in my rural area is inconsequential...

I didnt miss the story I just maybe have a better grasp on London geography than you do.

Do you know how big London is? PARTS of London, Kent and Essex. I live in London. London school children are not being mass tested in current campaign. So wish I'd name changed , so I could share, as on Friday we had email from school (W London) saying school already notified that will not be qualifying for mass testing in our area, or likely even our borough (so many contacted office to ask) for this current campaign announced this week. There was a sense that all London was being mass tested. Not true

Emilyontmoor · 13/12/2020 15:18

Pamela They have now added in to the list for mass testing the east London boroughs with high infection rates. As I posted up thread Havering has the ninth highest case rate in the country.

Over on the opposite end of London we have very low infection rates (though 26% being transmitted in schools and only 14% in hospitality) so a lockdown would feel unfair but if they keep the west end open all the shoppers and those seeking entertainment will continue to leave East London to go “up west”. Very much part of the Christmas ritual for the East End families I know. I weep for all involved in the creative industries but Soho was heaving last night, no masks, no social distancing and the pubs have stopped even bothering with the pretence of food. The tables had crept back in to the restaurant we went to last night and my arse were the people at the big tables all part of the same family. Unless there are a lot of gay middle aged men who have set up home with 8 others. Hmm

Meanwhile my friends and family in Melbourne, Auckland and Hong Kong do not face this situation as their governments have kept them safe. OP is quite right where the anger should go, at those incompetent buffoons.....

Moomin12345 · 13/12/2020 15:41

Royals are special, they get the best of everything for free. In return they visit random charities, give occasional speeches, mingle with dodgy billionaires, and represent the country. Their children are also more special than anyone else's children, so it makes sense they went to panto.

@Gigheimer

Yep. Joyless, grey, miserable Tier 3 North here too. Joyless since March, except that random ‘rule of 6’ fortnight sometime in late summer.

Irrationally annoyed by privileged royals getting what few other kids are getting around Christmas.

Don’t even start me on the ‘Lindon the epicentre is risking Tier 3 so let’s pull out all the bells and whistle’...

Load of tossers 😠

ILoveYoga · 13/12/2020 17:34

There are many tier 2 places having pay to and Father Christmas

Has absolutely nothing to do with the royal family

You’re seriously bat shit unreasonable

If you’re angry that other parts of the country are not in your tier, fine. But what had the royal family got to do with that?

Rather raise your anger with whomever is passing on the virus in your own area

nannygoat50 · 13/12/2020 17:35

That panto was put on for key workers and their children to thank them . And the royals were invited. The whole theatre had been made covid safe to allow a small amount of people to work . Not their fault you are in tier 3 but on Wednesday it will probably be in tier3 and have to close again . Let’s be grateful that at least done people got some cheer and others to work for a while

simiisme · 13/12/2020 17:36

It's not just the North - most of the country is in Tier 3, including down here in Kent.
There are many things that you can do to make Christmas special for your children. And I doubt if they'll feel like they're missing out on panto etc as none of their friends will be going.
We're all fed up of the situation, but we can all make the best of it.

sheridanstar · 13/12/2020 18:00

Kate and WIlls make such a show of being normal, when they are far from it. They are virtue signalling idiots.

Rachand23 · 13/12/2020 18:02

Yep, the green devil is behind you!

ArhedisVarkenjaab · 13/12/2020 18:08

The optics aren't great, are they? Its not their fault personally but it does raise questions.

petelacey · 13/12/2020 18:14

Jealousy, I know you can't do stuff and then you read someone else can. Tough that's life.

BasiliskStare · 13/12/2020 18:22

Gordon Bennet I would pay good money not to go to a pantomime. I think they are trying ( maybe misguidedly ) to raise awareness of key workers. I would not do their job for all the tea in china - nor indeed two houses. But I suspect they are being encouraged to stand forward a bit for morale. Now whether that works or not - a different question .

pleasehelpwi3 · 13/12/2020 18:23

I’m annoyed at how they manage to brain wash most other people in this country that is in any way normal to pay for a large extended family to do non jobs and have a multimillionaire lifestyle and- wait for it- they are really popular. If however you suggest paying asylum seekers a few extra quid a week in benefits you get told about benefit scroungers. William’s kids have a lifetime of taxpayer luxury just stretching out ahead of them....

margesimpson40 · 13/12/2020 18:24

Listen as a scot living in Wales I'm apiplectic with rage that the pair of them thought a trip to Edinburgh was a good idea... Pair of thoughtless, selfish twats... Glad they had a lovely trip... Shame I can't go for Xmas unless I pay over 400 quid, but they can go on a jolly... Trust me north of the border is a teeny wee bit miffed at getting treated like shit by Westminster et al

Danlsb · 13/12/2020 18:33

I am not annoyed They were attending to show support for the arts which are struggling at the moment.
I have just taken my kid to watch the Gruffallo which was done with lots of social distancing and control measures and frankly felt safer than a trip to the supermarket or school. There are a few theatres running panto and quite a few doing outdoor events. I understand that some people are in higher tiers so won’t get the opportunity and do sympathise with them.

MamaSharkDooDooDooDooDooDooo · 13/12/2020 18:36

Yes, YABU. They were there to highlight the work of NHS workers. The pantomime has been put on for key workers and their families and the Cambridges are championing and highlighting everything key workers have gone through, and the emotional toll it has been on their children.
It makes sense that they would take their children to the panto.
YABU to think it was all about them when they are actually the vehicle for highlighting good causes

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 13/12/2020 18:40

You're angry and just looking round for an easy target. But I suspect you know that already. Yes, it's understandable that you feel angry. No, it's not reasonable to vent it all at K & W.

wrinkly · 13/12/2020 18:53

I agree to stop the London bashing. No one wants anyone, anywhere to be in tier three. It's not north versus south. It's everyone versus the virus. There are a huge number of voters in the north so I think the govt, maybe somewhat ineffective, is not discriminating. They will want all voters at the next election not just the south.

UnseenDoreen · 13/12/2020 18:55

Kate has to occasionally be seen with the children, and this all plays into that. Her busy days on instagram or buying clothes must be oh so stressful.

Prince Dullard just is always out of step with public mood. Bleating about "heroes" 8 months after it was a thing. He's like the that dated old uncle you try and avoid at family gatherings.

Buffs · 13/12/2020 19:10

Yes, I thought the royal family looked typically spoilt and entitled. Completely out of touch as usual.

StoneofDestiny · 13/12/2020 19:17

We are all in this together.

Oh no, we're not 🤬

Stay safe, stay at home .......unless you are royal, then you can go on tour around the country.

Ridiculous.

Imnotahugger · 13/12/2020 19:43

It wasn't a piss take at all. It was to honour the key workers that carried this country through the worst year of many of our lifetimes!! Of course they should have been there! Give your head a shake OP.

LollyBeebee123 · 13/12/2020 19:52

Yanbu, it’s so insensitive, when kids all over U.K. are only able to go to school and little else!

FelicisNox · 13/12/2020 20:11

YABVU purely because it's unbearably sad to be this invested in what other people are doing.

Yes, this has been shit year but actually we've all had an awful time and personally I've no time for the "I can't have X so why should anyone else" train of thought. It's boring, selfish and mean.

I also think this is a thinly veiled attack on Wills and Kate and I'm so sick of this attitude. Despite what many anti royals like to tell themselves they do actually work for a living and more than that, like us they're parents and they're human so put your jealousy away and do better.
