To be unreasonably annoyed at Royals at the pantomime

Gigheimer · 11/12/2020 23:24

I post knowing I’m totally unreasonable (probably) and you’ll all shout but I got both angry and sad and rage at seeing the press stories of Kate and Wills at the pantomime in the West End.

I’m normally a fan, and of course I don’t begrudge those cute kids a pantomime.

But my kids don’t get that this year, no Santa experiences, no pantomime no fucking nothing because we are tier 3 and if our local pub or theatre ever open again I’ll die of shock.

But we are in the North so who gives a fuck right?

I just have the absolute unreasonable fury tonight.

key workers, even the children (if children can be workers, haven't seen the Regulations.). Bringing sunshine and joy to all concerned.

ScrapThatThen · 12/12/2020 17:09

I haven't rtft but I think their trip across the country was misguided. Its just brand promotion.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/12/2020 17:11

@Myshinynewname

Fair enough *@SchrodingersImmigrant*! I'm quite happy that they haven't been out unnecessarily but it illustrates that they clearly aren't essential. Didn't make my point very well!
None of us do sometimes 😁 At least we can have fun with it on occasion
Emilyontmoor · 12/12/2020 17:12

There’s nothing in our area I don’t think - I’ve looked for after we get back from kids grandparents

Is this trolling? Because unless there is some contextual information you are not providing this makes me a lot more cross than the Royals going to a socially distanced pantomime to add a bit of glamour for the frontline workers. I couldn’t give a toss about them but lots of people do and if it adds a bit of gloss for even one frontline worker and helps demonstrate you can be safe in a theatre to help the arts then I am not going to get cross.

Taking your kids who have been in a Covid soup at school (26% of cases in our borough are transmitted in school) within the last 14 days to see vulnerable grandparents not so clever.

No shortage of scientists warning this will lead to a rise in cases in the new year and perpetuate the tier 3s even longer. A family member is isolating because one of their team at work transmitted Covid to another. They were never within 2m of each other but they do share a 3m square office. Not unlike the average dining room.

OK maybe they have been vaccinated, maybe you are socially isolating ahead of it, maybe you are staying in a tent in the garden and communicating by semaphore but those word in isolation are pretty trolling for those of us who have family members on the frontline. Hmm

Joynot · 12/12/2020 17:14

Trip across the country?
It’s a couple of miles

Alys20 · 12/12/2020 17:24

Totally NBU.

Can ALL the royals just slink off back to their nauseating life of overprivilege, and spare us the lifestyle pics of opportunities we paid for that so many children cannot have.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 12/12/2020 17:36

We are in the south and we aren't getting any of those things either. The only thing we've been given is the army to help with mass community testing.

These people live in vastly expensive stately homes paid for in part by the taxpayer, with security paid for in part by the taxpayer, 'royal state tours' around the world pay for by- guess who? - and you are pissed off by a trip to the theatre? They probably got it free though.

OffredOfjune · 12/12/2020 17:44

@SchrodingersImmigrant

They are not keyworkers, they've barely been seen all year!

And when they are seen to be part of the thanking to key workers, they are told off😂
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Exactly my thinking. They stay at home and everyone moans, they go out to show support and people still moan.
Sloth66 · 12/12/2020 17:55

Royal work engagements aren’t what most of us would consider actual work.
Most are jollies, shaking a few hands, sitting watching performances , cutting a ribbon or two.
Not sure why we even need hugely privileged people like them to thank key workers anyway,

ScrapThatThen · 12/12/2020 18:10

Joynot, sorry I should have said that I was referring to their trip to various parts of England and Scotland on the Royal Train earlier this week I think 'to thank keyworkers'. I could have made that clearer.

EmilyinWolverhampton · 12/12/2020 21:49

I live in London (born and raised here) and I work partly in theatre, DH and most of my friends work in theatre. I'm all for anything that raises the profile of theatre considering how badly theatre has been hit, but I don't know what Will and Kate are playing at attending an event like that right after traipsing all over the country attending mass events with no masks and no social distancing.

The train tour is an absolute disgrace. Why did William and Kate not wear masks for some of their appearances? There's a photo of Kate leaning over to speak to a girl with their faces practically touching, no masks on either of them. It's offensive for them to spend such an obscene amount of money (the Royal Train is the most expensive form of transport they own, even more expensive than their private helicopter or planes, and even the Queen barely ever uses that particular train due to the cost) for a dangerous and irresponsible trip for no reason other than Will and Kate want to get their low Numbers up before the end of the year and get some PR.

I can't believe how arrogant they are. First William outright lies to the press. Now they behave so badly they're publicly censured by the Welsh and Scottish government at a time when the RF and government should be working together to send out a consistent message. I really don't understand how after so many years as royals they are still so determined to ignore protocol and do whatever they please (which usually involves spending insane amounts of money and behaving like celebrities).

Janegrey333 · 13/12/2020 00:18

Think you might be thinking of The Exiles there. 😆

mathanxiety · 13/12/2020 07:08

Like what? Pretty much Everything here has been cancelled and it’s a very very real possibility that one of my kids will be isolating over Xmas. No outings, no family. The weather is very cold and wet. We have been stuck in for weeks and are fed up with the house and each other quite frankly.

@Time2change2

I seriously doubt there is simply nothing you could all do, even it you end up making paper chains, homemade Christmas cards for relatives, or watching Christmas movies together.

If one of the children may be isolating over the holiday then surely there is a really good reason for the closures - the possibility of exposure in the community - and you need to adjust your expectations of Christmas?

BackwardsGoing · 13/12/2020 07:12

@Alys20

Totally NBU.

Can ALL the royals just slink off back to their nauseating life of overprivilege, and spare us the lifestyle pics of opportunities we paid for that so many children cannot have.

Or we could just disestablish the monarchy. Frankly the country could do with the extra money right now.

not joking

mathanxiety · 13/12/2020 07:14

@OfaFrenchmind2 - YYY, agree completely.

LunaLula83 · 13/12/2020 07:18

Calm down. They were showing support for the industry.

Theredjellybean · 13/12/2020 07:21

Bloody awful optics... The family out for a nice Christmas jolly...after they had just done a round the country trip.
I find them nauseatingly smug.

BefuddledPerson · 13/12/2020 07:25

@LunaLula83

Calm down. They were showing support for the industry.
The appearance was very bad though, I am surprised their pr is so bad at the moment.
simonthedog · 13/12/2020 07:27

Another keyworker and their family could have gone instead of them though.

BefuddledPerson · 13/12/2020 07:35

@simonthedog

Another keyworker and their family could have gone instead of them though.
They could have done speech at the start or something. It's something about them looking like they're having a normal night out.

They have just badly misstepped this last few weeks.

Boulshired · 13/12/2020 07:45

William and Kate should have opened the event said a few word and left. They should be doing all they can to protect Charlotte and Louis from any unnecessary publicity. William especially has witnessed the heirs and spares, if they think that they will some how be immune then it’s stupidity.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/12/2020 08:57

Turning up with the children was showing how they think a theatre is COVID secure (as much as anywhere can be) and to encourage other families to do the same.

If they hadn't turned up with the children people would probably have been questioning why.

I always understood, especially in traditional theatres, that the Royal box is the worst place to sit to watch the show, it was a place to sit to be seen not to see the production.

lurker101 · 13/12/2020 09:01

Exactly @ineedaholidaynow pantos are traditionally enjoyed by children more so than adults, so it would have been widely questioned why they weren’t there. Seems they can’t do right, if they had “stayed in their castles/palaces” and not left until everyone’s been vaccinated they would have been seen to be hiding away while we all have to crack on.... and they’re being criticised for zoom calls etc. During lockdown, I don’t know what else people expect

Pamelaandthepinecones · 13/12/2020 10:26

Can you explain why Covid has been allowed to remain endemic in tier 3 secondary schools in the North continuing to severely disrupt children's education with no mass testing but as soon as cases rise in Tier 2 London mass testing is rapidly rolled out? I'm really struggling to explain that decision on any reasonable basis.

Eh? What the fuck are you talking about Eleganz ? Do you really think London school children aren't severely disrupted too? DC1, 16, year 12, though perfectly well, has had three fucking self isolation this term. THREE. Four weeks at home.

What mass testing? There is no mass testing in London. None whatsoever, where on earth as you getting this fake news?

BefuddledPerson · 13/12/2020 10:36

@Pamelaandthepinecones
