EU blackmailing the UK

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 05:31

So it comes to pass. The EU have decided unless we agree to their unreasonable demands they will halt all travel, including air and road travel whilst still fishing in our waters apparently!

It is nothing short of piracy.

The true nature of the EU has been exposed for some time, hence our departure - but now no one can be any doubt just to the levels they will sink to.
The EU have no interest in trade relations, nor cooperation, they only seek control and power. The trading relations is and was always, window dressing to create a superstate - and it seems they are now not afraid to inflict as much damage as possible to stop a member leaving.
Even the most passionate remainer will now see how deeply disturbing this behaviour actually is.

One could argue it is an act of war in fact.

It should be treated as such.

I will happily eat beans to the end of my days than be blackmailed by the EU. We all knew it would get nasty at the end, but who they knew they were capable of this. I suppose we can't be that surprised given the past. The gloves are off now for sure - and that goes both ways we should remind them.

Hard hats on.

"And living in a shitty bedsit above a barber shop will be bliss"

That might be true for some but certainly isn't for me or many other thousands of divorced people. ,Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 11/12/2020 18:26

26% of people agree with the op! Grin this country is so fucked.

HMSSophie · 11/12/2020 18:29

The fucking moron Johnson cannot seriously expect Merckle to drop everything and talk to him one to one after four years - four fucking years?

duffeldaisy · 11/12/2020 18:29

We joined a club because, like with all of life, it's easier if you band together with others to cooperate and to come together to negotiate with others. We helped to decide the rules of the club because we were inside it. It was democratic in as much as the people could vote for our representatives in that club.

Some people voted for representatives who 'took a stand' by not turning up, by not involving themselves in decisionmaking. That wasn't enough, they didn't want to be a part of this club any more because everyone had to talk things through and agree solutions. These people remembered a time when you could just go anywhere and make your own rules with brute strength alone.

They lied and got people to vote against their best interests, to leave the club. It'd be way better, they said. We can use all our club subs to fund more for the NHS.

And now it turns out those people at the top lied. And they were corrupt. And now they're no longer in the club, they're annoyed that all the other members not only don't put them first, but that they still all stand up for each other. And now we're not paying any subs, what's happened to all the support, and why can't we have a say in deals in a club we decided to leave?

It's so saddening. We're losing so much.

HMSSophie · 11/12/2020 18:32

26% is about the proportion of the nation who voted to leave, tbh.

duffeldaisy · 11/12/2020 18:33

Even so, you'd have thought some of the people who voted leave would have changed their minds by now.

Sloth66 · 11/12/2020 18:35

This is getting frightening. As if the effects of COVID havent been bad enough, we are about to inflict more serious damage to the country.
those arrogant and cynical politicians, who lied and made false promises, amongst them Johnson, Gove and Rees Mogg won’t care, they are multimillionaires.

Emilyontmoor · 11/12/2020 18:38

I imagine other countries will start to follow Leave cultists have been saying that for four years, no sign of other countries and their electorates doing anything but become more committed to the EU. But say it three times and touch a unicorn and it might come true and justify us being the only country stupid enough to be faced with the choice of shooting ourselves in the leg, or head......

Thewithesarehere · 11/12/2020 18:39

Look, as Johnson says we will thrive with or without a trade deal
Whenever I read a post like this, I think of Mr Dursley (Harry Potter).

G5000 · 11/12/2020 18:40

I imagine other countries will start to follow

Yes, because Brexit has been such a huge success Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 11/12/2020 18:40

i think its a high figure- the ops ramblings are so divorced from reality its *almost funny and yet a quarter of respondents think shes right...

CherryCherries · 11/12/2020 18:47

Well no, of course other countries won't want to leave now... 🤦🏼‍♀️ Once they see the UK hasn't died of the black death after leaving, they will probably follow.. after all, we were a significant member in terms of people wanting to work and live here. I don't see too many flocking to Bulgaria for example to work and live...

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2020 18:50

Macron refused as wekl

UK's Boris Johnson tried to set up calls with France's Emmanuel Macron and Germany's Angela Merkel on Brexit on Monday ahead of talks with Ursula von der Leyen.
The EU chiefs made a joint decision to refuse, to ensure the EU speaks with one voice, according to senior EU official.

BlueBrian · 11/12/2020 18:50

I imagine other countries will start to follow
FFS not still having this fantasy, other countries have seen what twat the UK is making of itself, no way will they follow.

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2020 18:51

And Dutch PM Mark Rutte responds to Boris Johnson's declaration that he's ready to go to 'Paris, Brussels or Berlin' for a deal.
"I would invite him to stay in London and work hard," Rutte told reporters. "We have our own negotiator, Michel Barnier, so the capitals don't negotiate."

Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 18:54

And before anyone gets quippy about the BBC's talk of the UK entering 'uncharted waters' as if that's a bad thing for a buccaneering, adventurous, brave nation. How can a country find treasure by following charts that everyone else has?

Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 18:58

@DGRossetti, although were the Normans actually Vikings? Typical, EU gives favourable treatment to Norway against the UK again.

DGRossetti · 11/12/2020 18:59

@duffeldaisy

Even so, you'd have thought some of the people who voted leave would have changed their minds by now.
Or died.
DGRossetti · 11/12/2020 19:00

Technically yes. They certainly weren't "French".

We are in the middle of an economic crisis. It is like setting off on an adventure with a hole in your boat. And that is even if we accept that your metaphor is remotely relevant for a country leaving a major free trade bloc (which it isn't).

Positivity is not a panacea for all. Lots positive and confident people have failed because they have not listened genuine concerns, not planned for bad outcomes and ignored evidence.

Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 19:02

At least we can vote every few years and get shot of any UK government, how do you propose to do that within the EU exactly?

OP "There is NO accountability whatsoever within the EU.
You get your allocated percentage of rudderless MEPs that cash in on the expenses and do FA for their stint, and then you get the power base within the EU dark rooms that make the decisions - and good luck if you think you can even try to remove them - do you even know who they are?

You would have more luck getting shot of Putin or Xi Jinping!"

Come on, OP, there is absolutely no link between Putin or Xi and Brexit.

BlueBrian · 11/12/2020 19:03

Won't be long before the Brexiloons want to leave the WTO. because they're threatening the UK's precious sovereignty with their rules.

midgebabe · 11/12/2020 19:04

Well I suspect the Chinese will be very interested in an isolated Britain. I am sure they will want to help us out with a little investment. What could possibly go wrong ?

derxa · 11/12/2020 19:04

.

Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 19:04

OP 'to those few that have been brave enough to post, I know most leavers have long since given up - thank you'.

Would that be the few to whom the many need to be grateful? I can almost hear Churchill's intonation. After Reverend Dr Martin Luther King, there's some great orators you are channelling.
